I bought it and still have it :) Recently I took some photos with it and... whoa the images were great with a kit lens... Nikon color is always great. yesterday and today.
The D50 is the sweet spot for me, auto focus motor, SD cards and just really affordable. I love mine, takes awesome pics. Coming from an F80 everything feels so familiar. I just love it.
The D50 main issue - it can only handle SD cards up to 2 GB. I've had it. Then changed to the D40. Yes, 3 vs 5 AF points, no AF motor build in for screwdrive lenses, but i like it way more - and use usually SD cards 4-16GB into here.
After a long period of no photography in my life and after the beginning with film photography I bought this little beauty and get me back in to photography expecially in to digital photography.
I have this camera since 2008. Really like the saturated look of the CCD. And 1 autofocus point is all you need basically if you do focus, recompose. I even do that with my newer cameras like my D750. D60’s lack in dynamic range will force you to think about light conditions. It is not forgiving in post processing; what you see is what you get. ISO is only usable up until about 800. After that the picture starts to break apart. But with good light conditions, it will hold its own against 15 year younger cameras. DX format is still a big sensor by todays standards and you can’t beat physical sensor size with a big lens with a lot of surface area for light to hit on.
Same here. And you see it clearly from the samples here - when the blue sky turns more turquoise, even to white, your D60 Sensor DR is being exceeded, and it's clipping at some point into white. Therefore, careful composition is advised.
I recently bought this one as my first camera with a 55-200mm lens. And it gives amazing colors, looking the photos in the screen from the camera doesn't show the actual quality you end up with. With a good lens and good light you end up with really nice pics (it suffers in lowlight so I'll probably will buy a speedlight)
Great Video, i own on D40/35mm1.8G and I considered my most basic camera, I've got it just because I was curious on how it was to shoot with this type of cameras, and the results that I got are amazing, and now is my favorite camera to travel, even that I have some fuji's, sony's and canon mirrorless cameras, for some reason the size and the way it feels still pretty nice to me !!
I have the D40x which was my second DSLR, I was upgrading from the Canon 6mp silver plastic DSLR at the time, so build wise, this was a step up. I was mostly shooting P or automatic at the time, I didn't care to learn much, just the notion I have one of these. But looking at my pictures at the time, these did a great job at auto. I've given my D40x to my sister as a gift years later, as I upgraded to the D7000, but now looking at these for collection.
I love these old Nikons. Don't forget the D80 - I bought mine from new in 2007 and still use it once in while (when I hear a yotuber talking about CCD sensors 😊)
I bought one today and the thing is very small!!! One of the smaller DSLR I have seen But it's much more solid and with more weight and solid feeling that the Canons from same age and specs
The colours from that sensor are really nice and natural, I can see why people like CCD sensors. All the controls are instantly recognisable, no need for a manual for most things. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
I have my late Dad's D60 with 2 lenses. The kit 18-55 and 35mm f/1.8. I stuck with Nikon ever since and now have a Z7II and Z5 but I'm off on a weekend travel just now and have only brought the D60+35mm and nothing else.
All very true. Good video. D40 and D60 models can’t autofocus some older AF lenses, like the 50mm f/1.8D. But apart from that, I think it’s down to which one you just like the feel of. Keep these videos coming. Always interesting and worth watching.
hey there! just jumping in to add to the list of cheap Nikons the D80 it's basically the perfect middle between the D200 and the D60, having the internal focus motor, faster framerate and better ergonomics and buttons, but no AI ring, no magnesium alloy body of the D200
Really need to pick up my older Nikons and take them out for a few photowalks. Hard to shoot them all when you've a larger arsenal, I'm sure you'll appreciate that predicament 😉
This video is so well timed for me, I JUST bought this body and lens combo as I've been on a bit of a ccd kick as of late. I still slightly prefer the sensor on my Olympus e-500, but the d60 is a better camera for sure.
Just my personal opinion: I find several low usage D40, D60.. The better models usually where used heavily because the users where more professional. Which makes sense. The entry level models often got replaced with pocket cameras. At least this are my observations reading a lot of second hand offerings..
Having been somewhat priced out of shooting film I’ve been gravitating toward these older ccd cameras. Recently picked up a Sony a200 with kit lens for $10 and the colors are the very nice. Do you know which of these cams (if any) used the same sensor? The Sony also happens to be 10.1 megapixels…..
Yeah, I think this (d60) , the d200 the a100/200, and the K10D all use the same 10.2mp CCD. I think the D200 has the best AF of the 10.2mp CCD cameras.
Yeah, I can definitely confirm that the Sony A100 and A200 both use the same sensor as the Nikon D200. And as someone who has a Sony A200 and Nikon D200, they do have a similar quality to the images.
which one will you choose between sony a200 and Nikon D60 on lowlight and a bit challenging situation? both have 10MP CCD Sensor, and on paper they're pretty similar. i'm using a200, and planning to get this D60 to switch once in awhile..
I bought the d200 and the d60 and while I like the feel of the d200, I like the ability to use non Ai lenses on the d60 which is not possible on the d200.
There’s a few out there close to $30…then they want another $30 in shipping. Lol Patience is your best weapon on eBay. I snagged a D200 for $60 + tax and $14 shipping. I usually search and then do cheapest buy it now with shipping. If I can’t find what I want there I go to auctions ending soonest. Or low ball a couple sellers who listed a best offer option. Lol
I got mine on eBay. I paid $16 for the camera and $14 for shipping - so technically mine only cost $16. You just have to keep looking. I find these deals all the time. All the cameras on this channel either come from eBay or MPB.com.

@@marcp.1752ISO 100 vs 200 of the D40 too 😮
You forgot the D3000. I have had the D3000 for over a decade. Solid camera. Still works. 10MP CCD sensor with 11 AF points.
Yep, D3000 is a great camera.
@@steve_heise it would be great if you review the D3000, it's the last CCD Nikon and works wonderfully

I got one refurbished in 2009 for like $250. If it were 16mp. It would be my most used camera. It's more film like than my D7100 or D610.

My very first dslr, gifted to me by a friend back in 2014, stuck with Nikons ever since😊

Thanks, and sorry I totally meant to mention that. I learned that back in 2009 when I realized my Sigma 20mm f1.8 was manual focus only on my D5000.
It can't autofocus the 50 mm 1.8D?! :( Is there a ccd Nikon which can?
The d50
Nice video! I have a D40 and a Pentax K10D that I pick up when I want some of that Kodachrome glow from the CCD sensor. They are cool cameras.
Still have several D70s, D80, and the D200.
Maybe I just really like CCDs.
Thanks Steven.. I hope you can have the chance to test Nikon d80 too and Pentax k10d .
Focus and reframe. That's it.

How does this compare with the d3000?
I started using the d60 in photoclass in gr 10 last year and it was pretty good ngl
