At that point loosening the arm inner mounts is no big deal less fighting. Good video my friend great to see the Japanese Ferrari being up grades!!! What was actually replaced
@@bleachgarage yep yep sometimes instant results is the meat and potatoes of a repair You didn't say what you put in for parts. You know how us Datsun guys are...I'm building a 73 240 and back dating a 78 280 So I'm curious what you put in .I changed out the rear top hats for 240z ones to lower the back down and using one inch lower springs
@@MindDezign I do have another video in the works for the overall suspension. I used Acura TL springs because they were cheap, but it didn't end up being a great option. I'm going to have to tear into it again to get the rear lower. I would like to get some of those 240Z top hats but they are hard to find. Some people who have them for sale are actually just selling the easy to find 280Z top hats.
@@bleachgarage you better join all the Facebook S30 and Datsun Z forums and classifieds you will find all the Datsun Freindly parts borders that are not price gouging and know what they are selling. Facebook is the Datsun Z parts place to be.
You gotta know your limits with a boombox. A boom box is not a toy! The Factory Service Manual says to grip the end of the spindle with your hand and pull to remove... :)
KYB specifically states that their struts are now made to be installed without adding any oil. In the past I would normally empty out all the old oil and put some in. I went with KYB's recommendation.
Bleach Garage That's good to know, thanks for the reply! I'll have to check on the struts I got- they're not KYB but I wonder if other manufacturers are doing the same thing.
These Acura springs ended up keeping the Z at stock height but at a much higher spring rate. I will try to get the car lower using other methods that I plan to show in a future video.
I use a floor jack: 1st: Place the floor jack right behind the brake drum and lift the car up till the tire a few inches off of the ground . 2nd: Using cargo tie straps I hook the straps snug from under the jack and up to the coil spring. 3: I press the floor jack upward and the force compresses the coil! Plan B: 1st: Lift up the car until the wheel is at maximum extended length. 2nd: Then I tuck the strap under/inside the coil and up a few coils. 3rd: Then hook it to the ratchet part of the strap. 4th: Lower the car back down to ground level so the weight helps compress the spring. 5th: Using the ratchet part of the strap to compress the coil!!!

I'm the lazy Datsun mechanic. The fewer bolts turned the better ;)

What are the dimensions for the Megan Racing springs you used? I'm looking at Swift springs, just not sure what spring length to choose.
@@1Mig777 I ended up cutting those springs later. Did you want diameter and length after cutting?
@@bleachgarage yes if you could! How's the ride quality and stance after cutting?
Hello,
Thanks for the nice video,i have to do the same on my datsun this summer ( eibach ).You make a second one for the front?
Regards
I have more work to do on the suspension so I will follow up with a couple videos related to the front and overall suspension.
Who’s lowering springs did you use? What was before and after height measurements? Thank you!
Megan Racing springs. Same height after install, even after driving a while. I'm going to cut them
You did that the hard way!
Right on man, good job! Yeah definitely trickier than doing it on a 280zx. Lol
Did you not put oil into the strut housing or did you just not film/include it with this video? Because you definitely want oil in there.

How much do those spring lower the car?
