Great explanation.
Thanks for the great video. Would be nice to have an explanation as to when is each model (pipe, shortpipe, uniform) used? I mean ... why would anyone want to use the uniform model that slashes/dices the original packet PSC. Also seems that changing a packet's PSC in uniform model at egress would incur higher overheads ... so what's the incentive in doing that ?
+gaatutube Thanks for the positive feedback. Briefly then, 1) Pipe Model is used where there is a different QoS policy between the MPLS core and the customer's own network - and where the Service Provider wants to control the QoS of the final stage such as in a Layer3 VPN Managed scenario 2) Short Pipe Model can also be where there is a different QoS policy between the MPLS core and customer's own network - BUT where the Service Provider is happy for customer's QoS to control the final stage such as in a Layer3 VPN Unmanaged scenario 3) Uniform Model is used where the MPLS core and the customer network have the same QoS policy such as in a big enterprise network that is running its own MPLS core (ie no separate Service Provider). In this scenario the original 'customer' PSC is used to define the QoS of the MPLS core at ingress, anyway. Hope this helps.
