Congratulations, Ben, on crossing the bar with a well laid plan. Kudos to Dominica on her first night watch, under spinnaker, no less!!
Every video you do like this drives another nail into the coffin of the “Westsails are slow” comment! The Westsail family applauds you for that!👍

Cheers mate, It was really exciting and an amazing sail. Dominika also really enjoyed it and felt comfortable, despite the size of swell. Kudos to Westsails.

Yes, it was her first night sail. She did really well and Little Wing also performed superbly.

Great video but where is the footage from crossing the bar? Tell us about how the mainsail ripped too please.

Mate, you missed it. The bar crossing is at 9:45 minutes but pretty uneventful so not much to show for. Conditions were very good and better than expected. I put that down to the wind being far more South Westerly than the predicted South Easterly. It was therefore offshore and I believe helped flatten the swell a bit.
The mainsail split along a seam just above the 3rd reef. So it parted horizontally almost the entire width of the sail. I just brought it to sail maker. He advised that probably the luff tape was damaged and ripped which then caused too much pressure on the seam. He suggested it was long term damage the sail had sustained by abrading against something on the boat. I believe it was the sail chaffing against the running backstays when they are not released.
