Bought one yesterday at GC. Its really amazing I played everything in the acoustic room in the $600-$1000 price range and kept coming back to this one .
I have a Martin D18 which is a great guitar, a Taylor 810, and a Blue ridge BR283A.. I picked up this one a few months ago and haven't put it down yet.. A guitar has to feel good too, and this one feels awesome in my hands..
I remember last year when I inquired if you guys will ever review PRS Acoustic Guitars and some dude decided to reply to my comment by saying it's never going to happen and that PRS Guitars suck. It really irritated me but I didn't reply to it, no need to waste time on people like him. In any case, I'm glad you guys are finally reviewing PRS Acoustic Guitars. :)
C. Shearin LOL! Hahaha, well, I wasn't irritated with the fact that he said PRS Guitars suck because everyone is entitled to their opinions. What got me with his reply was that it was just totally uncalled for and it doesn't answer my question, which was quite simple really. :P In any case, I'm happy Acoustic Letter is finally reviewing PRS Acoustics. :)
C. Shearin Dude, I am reading the comments and you are in every single one! If you don't like the guitar: 1. Why are you wasting such a long time talking about it (you are probably frustrated you can't afford it)? 2. Why are you constantly watching the review? 3. You have given so many negative comments, you should ask yourself why you are so mad with life and improve yourself...
I own a version of that guitar with different tone woods and some additional abalone inlay and the guitar is amazing! Clear deep bass, lots of sustain and sweet clean minds and high end. I have owned more expensive guitars but none better at twice the price. My Sweetwater rep went crazy getting me one when their custom model was sold out. I’ve been playing for 40 years and seen and played lots of instruments but this is the crown jewel of my acoustics. Glad to see the word get out thanks!
sounds great ! Of course it doesn´t sound lika a 2000€ Martin but I havent heard a better sounding guitar for this price. All Prs SE Guitars offer just amazing quality for their price. Love Em
These acoustics from PRS are AMAZING! I have played a few examples, they sound and play WAY better than a Marin X. They are right in line with a Taylor 200 series.
TheD33pthawt the problem is Martin x series and Taylor 200 series are also over priced mass produced guitars like this prs is. All 3 brands are getting away with murder at the price all because of their badges.
Bought an A50E a few weeks back and it actually bums me out that this guitar is stuck with me as its owner lol. I feel like a toddler with a ferrari making vroom noises pretending to drive. In my opinion it's the most aesthetically pleasing acoustic on the market. There is nothing even close at that price range. I got mine for $500 in mint condition with free shipping. Tone wise I won't claim to be an expert but played back to back against my Martin DXK2 it makes the Martin sound like I got it at Toys R Us.
This guitar also exists in a dark red accent which I bought for myself. I am very happy with it. I can really recommend it to anyone who does not want to spend thousand(s) dollars/euros for a new guitar but still wants great sound...
Nicely done video and solid playing! I really like these PRS acoustics a lot. Nice full sound and easy to play. The neck is just stunning. I have a PRS Silver Sky SE and you're right, it has an electric neck feel. I may have to get one sometime soon. ;)
Thanks for the review of this awesome guitar and the fabulous playing, demonstrating how great it sounds. Beautiful appointments and aesthetics too. I am honored to own one, and IMHO there has never been a guitar that offers so much for the money.
@@JAAHUNGHAAMYes, action is good and it's relatively fast up the neck. However, it's true potential will not be unlocked until you get a complete setup by a first rate luthier or guitar tech.
@@JAAHUNGHAAM You are welcome. I actually bought a far more expensive Gibson J45 that I didn't like as much as the PRS once I had it set up by a first rate guitar tech, and ended up selling the Gibson.
Owned a SE Angelus Custom. The sound if you are finger pick is amazing. I sold it due to 2 facts, I suck at finger picking and the neck was too thick/deep for my liking. But then again if I was classically trained and could finger pick like Tony McManus this would be the best guitar bar none. I have this sneaking suspicion that I will own another one of these in the next few years, they are just great and interesting guitars.
Oh no, it's fine with guitar picks. But this, in my opinion is not a guitar that you can just strum along to some country/pop-rock songs. It's forte shines when there is some finger/hybrid picking involved.
i just got back from my local guitar shop and they had this model in stock i spent about a hour playing it. im definitely thinkin about buy it. it its a very comfortable guitar and plays very. well
I've owned one for 8 years. Sounds nice whether plugged in or not. Always compliments. And sturdy too - great for throwing in the back seat and playing out. Well worth the price...and then some.
Great video review. It really captures the sound of this guitar. I just purchased the same model at a local PRS dealer. They had it marked down to $299 so I couldn't resist! A brand new PRS SE Angelus acoustic w/ electronics and a hardshell case for 300 bucks. Deal of the year for me!
TheAngello120 there are no local PRS dealers in my area, that is why I asked for location of store you bought yours at. By chance they might offer online orders.
Hi Mike! My local PRS dealer is sold out of the Angelus SE acoustics. Sorry :(. I was told they are being discontinued and replaced by the new all mahogany models that are priced at $599. Good luck!
Tony, thank you for making the tabs available on your website. I immediately signed up for an account. Not only are the tabs well done and easy to read, but your teaching methodology is great as well. I'm very happy i signed up and do feel pretty awesome now being able to play last steam engine train.
This is an SE Angelus Standard. I have both the SE Angelus Custom and Standard and I love them to bits. To me they look amazing, sound amazing and they feel amazing. I'm very happy with my 2 acoustics. I only hope they will make an SE Tonare Grand... Fingers crossed :)
very cool bracing concept... I'd like to hear a bit more bass responce out of this though when strummed. The sound profile is a bit to mid-treb for my taste, Whats are body dimensions, and sting size being used?
I have a 2019 model and it's aesthetic's are much nicer now than the previous model's. It has abalone binding around the body with Curly Maple back and side's and an abalone double Rosette, Plus the bird's are abalone. The sound is very nice, warm and has great mid range. As far as price is concerned it isn't REALLY an inexpensive guitar, mine was 900.00 from American. I know that you can spend any amount of cash you want for a guitar but this one just had the right sound for me at the price range .Being an SE might make some people think that this is an entry level guitar but it play's as well as any other high priced acoustic I've played. I have an Epiphone EJ 200 CE and this guitar blow's it away for only a couple hundred buck's more.
These things are great when plugged. They are kind wimpy on the low end acoustically but when you do shows with them plugged in, it works great. With big dreads like Martins, you wind up notching out the bass anyway to eliminate feedback. I use this guitar more than I use my HD28 for bar gigs.
Playing an acoustic with and without amplification are two completely different things, so when shopping it pays to think about what you'll be using the guitar for.
I’m surprised viewers would judge the sound to be inferior or not with the tone they like. With respect, I only saw a neck mike and Prolly the built in pick up, I play lots of styles and this holds up to hard strumming as well as clean clear picking. The problem with deciding based on this format is that there are lots of variables from the mics to what your listening on. I’d say take it for a test ride b4 u decide.
Just a heads up to everyone who says these guitars are too bright. They are...at first. Mine mellowed out notably after 4-5 months of regular playing. It warmed up and lost the sort of brittle highs once I got some sweat and wear on it. For the money, these are unquestionably some of the best playing acoustics available. My ONLY complaint is that PRS hasn’t released a nylon string version yet.
Matthew I’ve had the same experience, the more I play it and let it sleep in a humility controlled case, it’s just sounding better over the months. I got mine at a Friday price, nearly half off. It’s a fine well designed instrument with a soul
I like these guitars a lot and you get a lot of bang for your buck but the price range puts it in steep competition with some amaizing guitars $700-$1000. Deffinitly a unique voice though, so it should find a place amoung the cheeper Taylors and Martins not to mention top of the line Yamaha and other guitars right in that range. Just saying... lots of competition. Seagull, Takamine, Ibenez, Breedlove, Guild, and more all have great guitars at that pricepoint.
Hey tony! So im getting a new guitar around the 800 budget, ive fell in love with this prs model or a taylor 114e. Which one of those would you recomend? I want the most for my money. Im a fingerstyle player but i do a bit of strumming aswell, thankyou for your time!
To those who hate the guitar these guys are new to the acoustic scene and I think they are doing quite well I'm a huge fan of taylor and Martin guitars but I really want to get one of these because 1. I'm a poor musician lolololol and 2. Prs is always blowing people away with their guitars
Try a 5 series Freshman. You will be surprised at the sound, quality and workmanship. Far superior quality in comparible price range to any of the usual big names like Martin,Taylor and Gibson for example. Circa $2000 although you may find it a bit cheaper. Check it out!
After reading your comment yesterday I was lucky to have a store close to me (the only one in my country in fact) so I could try a Freshman guitar. They didn't have the 5 series, but they did have the 4 series. I must say I was completely blown away by the sound quality. Bought the FA400GA super cheap, so you shall have my thanks! :-)
No King But Christ The 400 series is quite similar to the 500 but maybe a bit less bling. Glad you gave it a try and bought one. I can't believe just how good they are compared to much more expensive big name guitars. :-)
Muhammad Asad I found that model with some dust on it @ at guitar shop near me. I have the old rosewood model and I love it. I think I may go pick it up.
Yes, often times a more masculine, or macho sounding guitar can, indeed, be beneficial in helping boost one's image and self esteem. Wimpy 6 strings are for punks!
Hi G'day, I just I wanted to ask if you guys have a lefthand version of SE Alex Lifeson Signature Acoustic guitar or any other lefty guitar? Thank you in advance
Sorry but no left handed PRS guitars at this time. We do have a lefty Taylor 114e.... acousticletter.com/shop/taylor-114e-left-handed-grand-auditorium/
There is quite a price difference between the two guitars! I have the Taylor 114es but I was wondering if I should perhaps have gone for the PRS. There wasn't one in store when I was shopping for a new guitar hence why I ended up with the Taylor. I would say that the PRS has a slightly warmer sound to it, at least from what I have heard through youtube. I guess you really need to try both before deciding.
This is an Angelus Standard, made before the A10, etc. series. The one Tony is playing has a solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and laminate mahogany sides-not sure which of the newer models it compares to.
elephantfeet This is a discontinued model, SE Angelus Standard with solid mahogany back and laminate sides. The SE Angelus Custom has a solid rosewood back and RW laminate sides...also discontinued. The A30E is the newer (but IMO inferior) version of the Custom but with laminate RW b/s.
I just returned my mahogany A10E angelus, these guitars for me have a serious flaw, the frets are minute compared to other acoustics, nay even electrics there just is no meat on them at all to dig in and trill or bend, the sound was very good and the action a little high but the tiny frets kill them for me,also the micro pots in the sound hole are not such a good plan if you want to fit a hole blank, you can always reduce frets, but you can't add on and a refret on a new guitar? no way so by buy, sadly. It is after all a Korean built prs,and as I own a studio electric my expectations were high.
The all mahogany Angelus guitars (A10E) are not equal to the Angelus SE in this review. I played the A10E and did not like it compared to the model I purchased.
I have one and I really like it. IMO, it has a great neck for acoustic. I play more electic and I have gotten used to the necks and easier playing of electrics. However, the angelus plays very good and similar to an electric. It also sounds really good. I don't want to say it is a bright guitar because it does have a nice bass sound to it but it is a very clear sounding acoustic. I have no complaints of mine. I have played a lot of guitars and I have not found any under $1400 that are better. Furthermore, I like the size of the guitar. It's not a huge dread but it's not a baby concert acoustic either. It goes back to the playability, the size makes it easy to play without sacrificing sound. I have played a few prs electrics and the more expensive one are great but I don't really like the SE line or the S2 line of the prs electrics. I can get a fender for that price that is much nicer... But the prs se acoustic is a great purchase. I think there is an all mahogany es acoustic out now too. Don't quote me on that. But yea man. I think it is great. Plays great, low action an sounds great... Also, looks great.
So, will you recommend that guitar for a beginner? I'm twisted trying to choose the right one. Never played guitar. I don't want to spend too much but neither too less to get an unplayable guitar.
+Jordi Doria 100% recommended...most beginners are only willing to spend $200 or so. I would recommend getting something in this price range because it will feel better on your hands and you will want to play it more. I love mine. It has a great neck which to me is the most important part of a guitar as long as you enjoy the sound. And everyone has different preferences on necks but this by far has been the best feeling neck for a reasonable price. I'm sure some $2000 necks feel better. To answer your question, if you are serious about playing and are willing to spend a little bit of money, i totally recommend it. It is actually a guitar you will keep for a very long time and will continue to play even as you get better and want nicer gear. It sounds great. Has a nice clear defined sound but has a good low bottom end bass sound as well
They sound great man, I like them because they are comfortable to play and I can do so many alternate and down turnings, and it handles them all and stays in tune/intonated.
Not a bad review. One minor grammar point, "Unique" is a superlative, meaning one of a kind. Something is either is unique or not. Something can not be "very unique", "extremely unique" etc. Precision in communication is important.
@TheGodEmperorofMankind Welp...we might have to disagree. All the different devices and speaker systems..sound the same? I think not. I am just saying that maybe William Ramsey's speakers might not be representative of the true nature of this guitars sound, let alone the way the guitar was originally captured. . I just advise some caution in assessing via youtube. Your anecdotal evidence excepted
@TheGodEmperorofMankind That isn't what I am talking about. Look if you just want to argue I'm moving on. William Ramsey said "not hearing much bass". Which could be for several reasons not related to the quality of this guitar. I can MAKE a cheap guitar sound good, and a nice guitar sound bad. Exactly. Take care.
@TheGodEmperorofMankind Or MAYBE...William Ramsey has a shitty pair of speakers. I know...impossible right? Guitar has nice bass and overall good balance on MY speakers. If you look at the replies, there's a lot of mixed reviews. Some of it is in the ear of the beholder, and some of it is the systems people are hearing it on. If you think everyone's speakers and cell phones accurately reflect the true nature of the guitar...well you;ve kidded yourself marvelously, that you know everything. You're self-anointed name does speak volumes...LOL! Have at it...I am not buying it. Have a great day.
I have one of these. It doesn't have much bass kick but the mids and highs are uncommonly sweet and brilliant.

Muhammad Asad I found that model with some dust on it @ at guitar shop near me. I have the old rosewood model and I love it. I think I may go pick it up.
Sounds a little wimpy, but I guess I'm used to Martins
Yes, often times a more masculine, or macho sounding guitar can, indeed, be beneficial in helping boost one's image and self esteem. Wimpy 6 strings are for punks!
C. Shearin It ain't that. I'm just accustomed to a more robust sound.
C. Shearin Nope. Happy with my Martins. Not much of an electric player.
Martin is king but this sounds good too and priced about just a third of a Martin.
C. Shearin ''Wimpy 6 strings are for punks'', uh, Martins are 6 string acoustics. And Jesse is right, they have a deeper, more robust sound than this.
Thank
Is this the SE Angelus Standard or Custom?
When will the SE custom be review?
Maaan, how could you get such right hand perfect technique...???
Wojciech Imielski the same way u get to Carnegie Hall, Practice (with a metronome) but play with your ear as much as your hand!
Qué modelo es exactamente??
Should I get one of these or the Taylor 114ce?
There is quite a price difference between the two guitars! I have the Taylor 114es but I was wondering if I should perhaps have gone for the PRS. There wasn't one in store when I was shopping for a new guitar hence why I ended up with the Taylor. I would say that the PRS has a slightly warmer sound to it, at least from what I have heard through youtube. I guess you really need to try both before deciding.
This is the same question I have! You cannot find PRS Acoustics in stores to try. Hate that
which prs angelus guitar is it? a10e, a20e or a30e? it's sound amazing.
This is an Angelus Standard, made before the A10, etc. series. The one Tony is playing has a solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and laminate mahogany sides-not sure which of the newer models it compares to.
tabs for the first song played 0:25s
What model is this? It's not A30E?
elephantfeet This is a discontinued model, SE Angelus Standard with solid mahogany back and laminate sides.
I played the A10E and did not like it compared to the model I purchased.

could you do a PRS SE Angelus Vs Taylor 110l?
man i want some truly honest feed back on these guitars
Hi! Do you know the headstock angle?
Hola qué altura tienen las cuerdas sobre los trastes
Curious what a "low end guitar" price is?
Below 500 ish
made in which country?
Is this the Custom version?
No it's the SE standard version. Still all solid woods.
These guitars are already going up in price. seriously, i have never heard a better guitar on the acoustic letter.....grab these before they sell out.
what is the song he plays at 3:39?
Last steam engine train
Thanks dude!
Yeah thanks a bunch
what is the song at 2.50 tell me please.
Anybody know what alternate tuning he was using for some of the different progressions?
What are the guitar pieces played?
Freebird, Little Duece Coupe, and How Deep is My Love 💘
Hey add Olson Guitar to your review
What was “shitty” at around 5.30? 😂😂😂
How does it sound plugged in?
Sounds great actually, I have one myself and i frequently use it plugged in at shows and stuff.
Sounds like a laminate back and sides should...this with not much sustain
The model Tony is playing has solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and laminate mahogany sides.
If so I stand corrected, thanks @@minitrudy
name of the song on 4.06?
What's the action like?
What action? Tony's a great guy, but he's probably going to have to lose the beard before he can expect much "action.".
HA!
the sides of this guitar is laminated, not solid wood
Mine is solid wood not laminate the list price was $1100 I got it for $650 with Sweetwater’s custom tone woods
Didn’t really review it. Just played it. Kinda disappointing
Not a bad review. One minor grammar point, "Unique" is a superlative, meaning one of a kind. Something is either is unique or not. Something can not be "very unique", "extremely unique" etc. Precision in communication is important.
You and about 3 other people understand this. See "Elements of Style." Get ready to catch hell whenever you say something like this. But thank you .
song on 3:40? :| sound's amazing to me :D
+Marin Bencic Last Steam Engine Train :3
tnx dude :D
Which song is that?
That wide headstock looks terrible.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Which one marked symbol bad? Negativity. No more need a word.
Hey guys. Does anyone know the song name that he starts playing at 2:35?
That song is called "the smoke has cleared" and is Tony Polecastro original song.
Name of the song on 2:21???
+Mauricio Cataño sounds to me like
finger eleven - One Thing
+Maxim Pavlenko Song name is "Smoke has cleared".
Thanks
Not hearing much bass.
Well certainly listening to a clip on internet youtube determines the guitar's bass. Good call. : /
