  • Saying Goodbye; my tribute to Eddie Blazonczyk who passed away much too soon, on May 21, 2012.
Rest in Peace my friend. I cannot thank him enough for all the good times, the experience, and most of all the friendship that continued after we left the stage. I was fortunate enough to perform as a Versatone from 1987-1994, and in that time I spent over 1000 nights with Eddie onstage. I had what I refer to as "the best seat in the house"! I'll never forget you Eddie B. Condolences to the entire Blazonczyk Family, and a special thanks goes out to you for sharing him with us. As this song says: "So much to say, useless to try... It's time for saying goodbye".
NOTE: Special thanks to the Blazonczyk Family, and Polka fans everywhere for sharing your photos!
    ----Kevin Adams - 05/23/2012

This is a great loss to not only the polka industry, but to Polonia as well. Just a tremendous talent, who really transformed the polka music business. May his soul rest in peace. Wieczny odpoczynek racz mu dac panie, a swiatlosc wiekuista niechaj swieci nad jego dusza.

Great tribute. Why do we have to get to this point in our lives? Eddie touched all of us, as a kid i played countless hours on the tennis racket playing the bass guitar plucking away with my eddie finger. We need to cherish the all the little memories. R.i.p. Eddie B.

Eddie B. had probably one of the most unique voices as a Polish singer; and his voice just didn't square with his size. BUT, who's to say? God game him the voice he had, and he used it well. He always had time for everybody. I remember once, at Seven Springs, he raised a little hell with me for making a bunch of noise with a sh*t-load of M-80's. One thing I wonder though, if anybody, besides those who knew Eddie, knew, was, he played for a time under the name of Eddie Bell, for Bill Haley and The Comets. He gave a lot; may we follow in those foot steps; we'll never fill his shoes, but we can walk in his footsteps.

I didn’t know that Eddie died until April of 2015. I’d been out of the mix for a long time. But, Eddie created a style of music that, in my opinion, perfected polka music. I have more German blood in me than Polish, but it is the Chicago-style of Polish music that fires me up more than any other polka music. I just wish I could take the Outlaws’ song, “HURRY SUNDOWN”, and turn it into a polka; with all due respect to the late Hughie Thomason.

Thank you Kevin for such a fine tribute to Eddie. First I want to send my condolences to Eddie's family and to say just how grateful I am for the fond memories of the great dances and cruises Eddie had.His friendly smile, great personality and voice and musicianship kept his audiences captive and I feel blessed to have been part of those audiences on many occasions. Keep Heaven happily dancing Eddie and may your music live forever. With heartfelt sympathy, Pat Caldwell (Tampa)

Ye, thank you so much for this tribute and these memories . It's so beautiful and touching. We owe Eddie -- and also Jerry Darlak and Jimmie Sierzega, who we see with him in so many of these scenes --- so much for all the joy they brought us over the years. God bless them for ever --- and maybe ----hopefully---- we will see and hear them live again in polka heaven some day -- In any case, they will always live on in our hearts .

RE: the lineup at 0:55 >>
Sure! That's (l. to r.) Jerry Tokarz, Jerry Darlak, Jimmy Sierzega, Eddie Blazonczyk, Al Piatkowski, and Ed Wolinski. This is a photo taken in 1986 for the "Another Polka Celebration" recording. That album won a Grammy, for Best Polka Recording of 1986. (The group received it in Feb. of 1987, but it was recorded by everyone pictured here in early 1986). Same lineup though, for 1985.

This is the song from the Muppets take Manhattan! I was joking that it would be before I watched it and it really turned out to be. I wonder if this is an old song.
