An extraordinary and well deserved win for Hou. Even though I don't think he would beat the really big guns of China, in this form he would run surely them close. The younger national players seemed bamboozled by his variation off the short pimples- the ability to add more backspin against heavy loop or push (more than long pimps can) and then to be able to float with it coupled with an explosive forehand was a winning combination. What with Falck showing how good they can be to flat attack with maybe short pimps will be the next big thing (again!)
And I thought choppers didn't have future. Maybe it was coincidence, but, Hou has shown remarkable athleticism and skills. Maybe, chopping has future, if you play short pips on your backhand. I mean, all these guys have a superb topspin shots, but, if you can vary the spin on chops, it becomes unpleasant for attackers. Maybe I start chopping with short pips and see what happens :)
@@felmusik5043 Well, I had my practice yesterday, and I had an opportunity to try Spectol on ALL wood. It is SO HARD to have decent control on chops. I really struggled with hard topspins. If you chop with LP technique, witch is straight down, the ball does go flatter, but it is hard to place it on table. If you chop with more open blade, you get back spin from hell, but, since I was a beginner in this, the ball lands too high on the table. I guess, it takes training, like anything else. I have Tibhar D'Tecs, 1.6mm and it can create high backspin even with plastic balls. And control is superb. When opponent tries drop shots, I simply twiddle and push the ball with inverted, or try to attack with pips
But, forgot to mention, I am more LP attacker than defender. Especially with plastic balls, you can not create more backspin with long pimples. From shorter distance, when you do chop block right of the bounce, it becomes tricky for your opponent. Long pips with sponge is better for attacking
One would expect more attacks from Hou's backhand side since he's using short pips, but he doesn't. I wonder why... That would make him even more unpredictable in his game. I find the the rubber he's using is A LOT easier to attack with than a mainstream long pip. A bit harder to manage the defensive bit, but not undoable. Another advantage is that you can make your own spin... most long pip rubbers do not perform that well
Wang played 2 choppers in a row, his left shoulder must be numb, Hou was lucky to be the 2nd chopper. Wang smashed much harder when he played Ma te. Poor guy.

Norman Swift so Hou use short pimples?
@@felmusik5043 Yes- on the backhand. He can hit close to the table with it as well - no need to twiddle the bat like a long pimps player.
Imagine he would scream at the end: "Bring me Thanos ....!!! " ;-)
Maybe I start chopping with short pips and see what happens :)
djhumantorch Tell us please
When opponent tries drop shots, I simply twiddle and push the ball with inverted, or try to attack with pips
djhumantorch d-tecs is very fast rubber I change it for Tsp 1.5 lp and is more slow but great control. So Spectol more underspin than long pips???
@@felmusik5043 Definitely more spin with short pis, they are similar to inverted
Another advantage is that you can make your own spin... most long pip rubbers do not perform that well
He play with his brain. He can cover all difficult ball easily. And send back heavy snake ball
Ma long, xu xin, fzd , were in this tournament?
No
They’re all in rehab mode right now after playing way too many tournaments this year
Wang played 2 choppers in a row, his left shoulder must be numb, Hou was lucky to be the 2nd chopper. Wang smashed much harder when he played Ma te. Poor guy.
2:10 Chuqin chopping XDdddd
