  • We're digging into a patent from Universal that would allow ride vehicles to break apart into smaller sections, and even allow those sections to take different ride paths.

So much potential with this idea! That would be insane to have seats floating off on their own!... I can't imagine that ever happening, considering all the little kids panicking when their parents are torn away from them.

All of this is awesome, even though that could happen, I believe where they could possibly make families stick together so non of them have to worry about putting children in harm but that's my own opinion, but This idea as going to be awesome for the park

Universal great movie ride would be insane. Would be a way to relive some of the classic attractions but on a smaller scale. Go back to the future, ride through the Jaws attraction and meet Kong again. If Universal did this it would be a huge slap in the face to Disney

This would be so cool if it actually gets built. A big 'If' but if any company could build something like this it is Universal, Hands down :D

Your passion for patents & those little animal drawings on the patents make me happy 😄😂
It feels like these may never come to fruition as an actual ride but damn it sounds like a promising idea

Alicia this looks absolutely insane. Imagine sitting in a theater, watching Universal clips as you said, then all of a sudden the theater starts breaking into pieces til you are eventually alone in your own seat and are loaded onto rollercoaster tracks! this is a bit too much for me to grasp lmao.

It would be amazing if you went into the Universal Palace Theater, and the main loading area is the biggest old fashioned theater. Then you go through the silver screen into movies. (i.e. Jaws, Back to the Future, Twister, Psycho, E.T., King Kong, Apollo 13, etc.)

Now I’m just imagining a Star Tours-like motion similar that, halfway through, turns into a dark ride. Though, admittedly, the movie theatre version sounds a lot like an expanded version of the Cinémagique show that used to be at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris (a show i highly recommend looking up because it’s amazing)

What if they did what Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway couldn't do? SPOILERS: So in that ride, there is a scene with a tornado, a physical prop that spins and it's windy in the room, but you just kinda of slide passed it, you don't spin around it at all. What if the beginning of this ride was (just like in the patents) together, and then they bring back that effect from Twister the ride and make a tornado in front of this giant ride vehicle, and then as it starts moving around the tornado, each piece breaks off and then gets thrown on to different tracks.

Great that my idea for a LotR ride is being worked on.
Pre-show: your group is spoken to by Gandalf, I knows who are kids and who are adults due to a camera system and announces "there a 5 hobbits, 2 dwarfs, 3 humans.... you are the fellowship and embark on a journey trough middle earth."
You enter what looks like a single ride vehicle and the "choose your own adventure" begins.
You Start as you leave the Shire (this is not a retelling of the LotR story).
Are you going over the Misty Mountains of or the Mines of Moria? After choosing the vehicle splits up and transforms into 2 smaller vehicles. Later on you unite again etc etc.

This was making me think of Monster's Land in Epic Universe, remember how it was rumored to be a theater show... and now it seems to be different. What if this is what it is in some way? Starts off with you going to see a Monster movie, and then you get pulled into the movie for whatever reason. Kinda of like the Mickey's Runaway Railway reveal but you are already riding the ride. That would be a pretty cool ride, especially if the exit was IN the land and you went into it outside the land.

That is exactly what I thought this was for. I was imagining it would start as some “let’s watch the highlights of Universals monster history!” clip show, before one of the monsters turns to the audience and shows that they’re actually alive. Then they’d take over the theatre and send us into different monster clips. Using the monsters would give them an excuse to have a slightly more extreme ride that just a bunch of classic scenes.

This seems like it could be an awesome classic monster ride. Frankenstein’s monster could tear your roof off, you could go through Dracula’s castle and fly with as a bat and ride a boat to the Phantom’s lair…or through a swamp to be attacked by the Swamp Thing.

My god the possibilities. I really want a ride on the scale of Rise of the Resistance but themed to something like Godzilla or Cloverfield that involves being trapped between the big monster and whoever is trying to contain it.

The timing of this means it's not for any of the rides that we know are going into Epic Universe, because those patents would have all been filed before construction. So IF it's for EU, then it's for one of the recent changes to the original plan: Tolkien, French Ministry of Magic or Classic Monsters. The idea is basic enough that I could imagine it working with any IP.
The new rumor for Classic Monsters is a coaster, so it's obviously not that, but maybe this is a replacement idea for the rumored show. I find it too much of a coincidence that this park was rumored to have two live shows and neither appears to be opening with the park. I'm wondering if maybe they've learned the limitations of an open hub system. If someone just got off Mario Kart or the Frankenstein Castle ride, will they want to walk all the way over to the Dragon land for a show? Even worse, how many people will decide they need to head over to Berk after lunch because there's a show at 230pm? Half the park could be in one land! (I honestly think the shows will be doomed to fail if the theaters don't have direct hub access.)
So one solution is to turn a show with actually showings into something that is continuous. This patent could basically be the ride version of the Bourne Stuntacular. There were rumors of a Creature from the Black Lagoon ride, and I could totally see this working for that: everyone's on a sightseeing barge seeing the sights, the Creature somehow breaks up the barge, and the remaining "rafts" float down different forks in the river where they will experience a different story. It could combine live sets with film, something they've been excelling at lately. I have no clue how the Creature would destroy a boat, but this is the Universal Classic Monsters land, so what about Jaws destroying the boat? That would be a spectacular callback. Then the boat pieces could fork off and be stalked by the Creature. The Frankenstein ride will probably focus on the "biggies" - basically the ones that appeared in the Graveyard Revue - Dracula, Frankenstein's Monsters and the Wolfman, maybe the Mummy, maybe the Phantom - so this could be a good way of getting other monsters into the land.
All that said - and I would love Jaws coming back in some form - I think what Alicia said about it being another moving theater is the main takeaway here, because the patent isn't really about the individual simulators or the moving - that's basically Spider-Man 's ride system - it's more about them being connected to each other before they turn into Spider-Man. That suggests some sort of major show element at the start of the ride. The previous moving theater patent was originally rumored for Zelda but there were also rumors of a recreation of the courtroom scene from one of the Potter movies. While I don't see how a show could become a ride for the Potter idea, I can 100% see it for Zelda. Breath of the Wild has rafts, perfect for a scenario similar to the Creature idea. But the bit about the vehicles separating from walls totally made me think of a Zelda dungeon. Everyone could start off in a dungeon together and each vehicle's performance in that battle will advance them into different rooms in the dungeon. The vehicles performing well will eventually face a big boss, those doing less well will get an elementary boss. It's basically Poseidon's Fury meets Toy Story Mania, but in SCOOPs.
Just some guesses based on what little we current know about these things. It's nice to learn about something that isn't already written in stone.
