Can someone explain the insane amount of PTA tax being imposed on smartphone upon registration.
Thats contradictory to the statement that smartphone is a basic need instead of luxuary.
PTA should reconsider the policy of taxing these smartphones.

The plan is to discourage imported phones by imposing heavy taxes and encourage locally assembled mobile phones by incentivising them.

You think that Pakistanis are very skilled? Sub ecosystem bun gaye hai? Can we make screens locally? Chipset? Camera, etc? Obviously, it will take some time. The direction is set. This is great news
Get rid of the extensive PTA tax. Its not even about flagship phones, even mid rangers are extremely expensive and no matter what you do, people will want flagship phones from Samsung and Apple. Put up a tax but not a tax that is equivalent or even more than the phone cost. The level of PTA's infiltration and taxation system is astounding. Went to buy a GSM module for my degree project. The tax on that module was more than the module's cost. Its ridiculous. The sheer amount of taxation on foreign companies is ridiculous.

There are handful amounts of semiconductor industries in the world most of the mobile phone companies import majority of stuff from them.
