I was a metal kid in the 80's. It's such a pleasure to watch my heroes continue to mature and stay engaged. And the friendships between ya'll that remain all these years later. Thanks for letting me be a fly on the wall to see it.
I loved it when Steve turned around and started interviewing the interviewer, genuinely curious about Kip's process. No ego there. You don't see that often and it was cool to witness. Seeing Steve's reaction to the gift was also touching. Two great minds and artists.
Thanks to you, Kip Winger, and to Mr. Steve Vai for taking time to have this conversation and for posting it for all of us to witness. I've been a fan of both of you for literally decades. Really great!
What an amazing interview this is. All three parts are on an otherworldly level. As far as pure content goes, half of it is completely over my head, and still I couldn't stop watching. The spiritual energy between these two gentle giants is inescapable. I've been a huge fan of Vai and Winger since I've first heard them in the early nineties. So glad, they're still around, giving their gift to the world. After hearing this, I truly think Kip Winger might be one of the most underrated musicians on the planet. What a unique genius. And so incredibly humble.
People might take exception to this but steve is a far better musician than he is a guitar player! And thats probably the highest compliment I can pay him🙏 He's been my favourite instrumentalist and core inspiration for decades now👏🏻
That's how to treat a friend and colleague. Pure admiration and gifting your friend with something incredibly special. Very moving, I’m out of words. We live in a great time, where toxic ego is evaporating and kindness and valuable and important music are taking over.
As a music kid of the 80's I had very specific feelings about the type of music "Winger" played back in the day. We were so foolish and full of ego... It was great getting to know a little bit about Kip in this interview with Steve Vai. One of the best interviews with the legend that I've had the pleasure of watching.
So many layers to Kip Winger. Winger, Kip Solo, symphonies, ballet, etc. These interviews and podcasts I watch, every layer so very interesting as time goes by. He's always absorbing, teaching and sharing. Kip is such an intriguing man. Intelligence in a word.
Very thoughtful gift. What more from a friend could anyone ask for to take the time to find what they want. Or to go get what you want and to be able and give it to a friend. I surmise is also a sign of forgiveness.
Excellent conversation with Steve Vai, Kip. These 3 parts brought my years of studying music theory flooding back to me. I enjoy listening to musicians who love to compose and know what they're doing not just musically, but compositionally - if that makes sense. Also, your gift to Steve was incredible - so gracious! Thank you so much for sharing this 3-part interview. You're the BEST Kip! 🤗
I'm utterly amazed by the level of insight I'm getting from both interviewer and interviewee! I've been following and studying Steve's music since I started playing guitar. (Considering that he's the one who solidified which instrument I wanted to learn first.) Winger was a band whose sound instantly grabbed me and forced me to take notice. When I found out that Kip grew up just a few miles away from me (he in Golden, me in the Green Mountain area of Lakewood) it only added fuel to my desire to make music. These two incredible musicians are living proof that it's we who define ourselves as musicians/composers not the record labels, the fans, or even the music we make. (Not that anyone should alienate their fans.) The music we make is merely a reflection of a small snapshot of who we are at various times in our lives combined with the experiences we've had, and just a little bit of "let's try this and see what happens".
I don't think I've ever seen Vai really knocked out like when you gave him that signed note. Very cool. Just generally speaking this whole series is so cool. You guys are on another level.
Thanks for making my day, Kip and Steve!!! 😊 Having studied my share of music theory, this conversation was pure gold! I believe the primary goal of all musicians should be to constantly self educate. From there, flows your inspiration and your joy!
I love this. 2 of my favs. Met Steve 3 times. Nicest guy ever, along with Billy Sheehan and Kip. Would love to chat with these guys for hours about anything.
This is Music History caught on You Tube! THANK GOD FOR YOU TWO MEN; i am touched and inspired by both of you guy's not only in music but, in life through both of your music. Sincerely: David Paul Rivera (Doktah 77)
You guys are both awesome! But this 3 part series - OMG - took it to another level, so cool, so nuanced. Realllllly peeled back the layers of what makes both of you tick. Thank you so much for sharing.
Kip, now I’ve watched the whole I can honestly say, hands down the best interview I’ve sat through. Insightful, thoughtful, and a sheer pleasure to see two musicians I’ve followed for 35 years go that deep into the creative process. Huge thanks, Karl
All 3 parts must be watched,,,FANTASTICALLY SO INSPERATIONAL FOR US MUSICIANS/SONGWRITERS,,,,THANK YOU KIP AND STEVE,,,GOD BLESS BOTH OF YOU FOR THESE INTERVEIWS ❤IT. - RJ.
"Pantomiming someone else's genious" totally stealing that! What a wonderful series Kip and Steve, all of this transfers to visual arts and I'm richer after listening to this and will revisit when I need to bring back my focus. Good stuff!
Great conversation with Steve. Really interested to hear two really great composers comparing how they go about it! What an awesome gift to Steve too 💖
Two musical geniuses talking shop, very interesting. The more I see and hear about Steve Vai, the more I like him. He’s amazing! I think most people know about Steve Vai’s varied musical interests, but it’s very cool to hear about Kip’s as well. Also, I think Steve was really moved by the gift of the letter from Kip and seeing his reaction was very uplifting. Kip is doing a great job with these interviews and I’m very much looking forward to the next one. Kip, I’ll be seeing you again Saturday night in Beaver Dam, KY. Should be a great show with lots of great bands playing in addition to Winger.
You two guys have truly touched my life through your music. The world needs more people like you to become a better place. Thank you both for the music and inspiration 🙏🙏👏👏
Thank you Kip for this very insightful interview. As a composer there is so much in there to unpack which I find insightful and relatable. If anyone is interested, I tried to translate the contents of the letter. The names of the people mentioned are likely wrong but the handwriting isn't the easiest to read (and the language is a little more archaic than what I'm used to): Dear sir, I thank you for the card addressed to Sabedo which I handed to Capt Hart. The man, who must have written to you, is terribly surprised that you have not received one of his long letters sent several weeks ago, as well as a report on the summer season and the announcement of the new [shows] which will take place this winter. Attached is our pamphlet. You will note that we are working hard. I (can't make out word here) to you the list of names and addresses or people likely to be interested in the magazine and to subscribe to it. When the time comes, I shall take care of a concert in Paris, a project we have sketched together and which I will keep you informed about. On your end, do not leave me without news and keep me informed of the happenings of Paris. My respectful compliments to Madame Prunières and my best wishes to Monsieur Creucoy(?) Yours truly Edgar Varèse
Wonderful interview, all 3 parts. I’m not a musician so I didn’t really understand a lot of what you were talking about but I loved listening to two artists talk about their passion & purpose. Thanks for allowing us to experience the wonderful reaction of Steve receiving your gift. How incredibly thoughtful of you to give him something so meaningful. Can’t wait to see your next interview
I always thought great musicians spend more time erasing what isn't needed, rather than thinking of what more you can add. Steve always sounds like he's content with anything he puts on a record. It's deliberate even if it was a long journey that started off as a stroll in the park.
I don’t know anything about music terminology- but being a fan of these guys- I love listening to them talk shop- because their passion for music is amazing !
Amazingly kind to allow all of us a glimpse behind the finished pieces we're privileged to enjoy. Thank you. And BTW, wouldn't it be a fantastic show if Winger and King Crimson were on the same bill soon?
Pure joy! Such an amazing conversation! What an insight in the mind of two legends! THANK YOU so much for making and sharing this interview with all of us!
I can't remember ever seeing Steve speeches but that gift meant the world to him. This interview is amazing and I hope to see more so thank you for sharing it.
Another great part of this interview...Its refreshing to listen to two musicians who love music this much! Very inspirational! Great gift btw! Its easy to see that Steve was stunned and overwhelmed.
Amazing interview Kip thank you! You and Steve are two of my favorite artists. At 55 years old I recently took up painting, and I find it so interesting that the creative process is the same no matter what the medium. My instructor and fellow artists have countless conversations about manifesting and requesting from the universe, putting it out there and then surrendering to the process. It’s out there for all of us, the key is being open to it. Thank you both for your insight on the creative process. Loved it!
What a gratifying conversation and a very moving conclusion. Steve Vai is one of my favorite guitarists. And I have been a fan of Winger and Kip's since 1988. Love that he is flourishing nowadays and broadening his talent.
It is very interesting to hear about the beginning and the end when creating music. Kip and Steve put into words what no one else could put into words. I was touched by their deep love for music. I am very much looking forward to Kip and Steve's future activities! Thank you very much!
Steve is my absolute favorite musician ever. The guy is just so generous and brilliant. And with this series of conversations it's really clear to me why is he thanked in the liner notes of Seven. Keep on goin' Kip, must underrated musician ever, you deserve more recognition and all your work needs to be in more people ears. Both of you are gold to me.
Such a great interview so cool! Just wanted to ask if anyone hear has listened to Gran Hechicero, he is my favorite composer today, extremely unconventional but so powerful! Much love to everyone here, this was a beautiful moment in time, so happy it was captured and shared with the world!
Enjoyed hearing about your compositional processes, but the best part was Steve flipping the interview & questioning you! Very interesting that your Symph #1 was the first time you were able to do exactly what you wanted. That piece is incredibly moving - really hoping to hear it again soon. Very cool that you found such a meaningful gift. Thank you, thank you both!
Thanks so much for this insight and wisdom from you both! Didn’t know there was gonna be a Part 3 and this is a gem. Wonderful stuff! Inspiring! Both of you are in your element.
Such great interviews Kip! It makes me reflect on how important it's to know the subject in depth before being able to make the right questions. Something that unfortunately, the vast majority of interviews online truly lack out there.. Thanks! 🙏
I love these two men !!! So respectful of each other and musical geniuses!
Kip NEVER gets the props he deserves. The guy is ridiculously talented and when I had the chance to meet him in person, just a great guy.
Wow this is unusual and completely unexpected but I can’t stop watching it. This proves that America still has intelligent people.
What a beautiful gesture from Kip. Steve was genuinely moved by his gift. So cool to see that.
Take notes kids,, friendship goes beyond professionalism, wealth n fame
I was a metal kid in the 80's. It's such a pleasure to watch my heroes continue to mature and stay engaged. And the friendships between ya'll that remain all these years later. Thanks for letting me be a fly on the wall to see it.

Holy bats I was just thinking that Id love to see kip and Steve Vai collaborate on something
I had no idea that Kip had that depth of musicianship to him, to be a composer and all of that. What a great conversation.
These guys should do an album together!
now that you made it sound like an Order you RUINED it for everyone... people never learn 😡
@@FeelingShredThat's only how you heard it. Bummer.😊
Thanks to you, Kip Winger, and to Mr. Steve Vai for taking time to have this conversation and for posting it for all of us to witness. I've been a fan of both of you for literally decades. Really great!

Stopped in for Steve, left loving them both! 🎸😃👍🏻💜

Kip is incredibly talented. You should check out some of his classical compositions.
Having lived through that era I did the same, but really they were as good as anyone, probably better than most.
So many layers to Kip Winger. Winger, Kip Solo, symphonies, ballet, etc. These interviews and podcasts I watch, every layer so very interesting as time goes by. He's always absorbing, teaching and sharing. Kip is such an intriguing man. Intelligence in a word.
Wow...kip and Steve are so next level...watching two geniuses compare notes...just incredible!
Blown away by this whole series. So much class and talent.
Steve was genuinely moved
By that generous gift.
Both of your skill sets are truly
Incredible, definite mutual
Admiration between you two…
This is definitely grown ups material in the best way possible. So good!
Very thoughtful gift. What more from a friend could anyone ask for to take the time to find what they want. Or to go get what you want and to be able and give it to a friend. I surmise is also a sign of forgiveness.
This series is probably the best thing on the internet right now. I love it. Thank you!
Wow - epic gift, such mutual respect and stimulating conversation. Thank you so much for the insightful interview.
Wow! I actually welled up at how incredibly thoughtful presenting this gift is

Unbelievably awesome. Big fans of both but my respect has gone immensely higher watching and listening to this interview series.
Thank you both for sharing! Great conversation Kip Winger. Can't imagine what is to come next. ❤️🎶
I don't think I've ever seen Vai really knocked out like when you gave him that signed note. Very cool. Just generally speaking this whole series is so cool. You guys are on another level.
Great interview, anything with vai is gold, kip your a humble legend
Such a powerful interview about music. All three parts of this are straight up gold.

"There's something dead in here" was always one of my favourite Vai tunes. Great interview :)

Great interview. I actually learned more about Kip than I did Vai.
Magnifico.💀💀💀💀💀💀
This part was really moving! Steve Vai recieving Kip's gift made me feel joy, and happy for both of these one of a kind artists!!
What a generous man
It is very interesting to hear about the beginning and the end when creating music.
