- In an interesting twist, Mercedes has captured two senior Ferrari staff members, Simone Resta and Enrico Sampo. Coupled with Ferrari's recent 2025 signing of Lewis Hamilton, and potentially any team members he brings with him, it's a curious development for team members to be switching both ways between the teams - we got Bryn Lucas to chat with Jon Noble to find out what this means for both Mercedes and Ferrari going forward.

everyone jumping ship from mercedes, they are turning into williams.
@@AntisnakeYTIf anything, they're turning into the team they always were, at least since the fresh start under the BAR flag.
They won their Championships on a gimmick and an incredible PU advantage with everyone else held back from competing by the regulations.

Resta is an amazing engineer, unfortunately he never got along with Binotto, that's why he was parked by Ferrari in Alfa Romeo and Haas.
Now there's not much room in Ferrari, although he was offered a job in WEC, which he declined.

Allison worked well didn't he? loic serra who ferrari signed, before mercedes signed him was doing bad at a team they were at, tbh alot of mercedes peak engineers were not great at their teams, eric blandin aswell, then they get a new challenge and it brings improvements from them, they will never be newey or allison but very good

Sure, but that's got less to do with Merc and more to do with many prominent members of staff seeking a new challenge and higher pay ..... after 8 consecutive constructors, 7 drivers titles.....

Simone Resta is coming from Haas, where he was technical director during the current "ground effects" era.
While on loan to Haas, the team managed to lock up P10, P8, and P10 over the last three years. Ferrari though so highly of him that, on his return to Maranello, they were going to shuffle him off to a non F1 division. Gene Haas was less than impressed with Resta's lack of motivation. Hiring a failed engineer isn't how Mercedes will start winning races again.

Simone Resta - designer of how many winning cars? This stinks of desperation from Mercedes. They created a legacy from the tutoring of Schumacher, a legendary engine and a prime Lewis Hamilton. Now that's gone and they just found out Santa isn't real.
Allison design of this year's Mercedes sucks, for now. I highly doubt it will get better, probably 0 wins this year. Forget about the championship.

Resta was long gone from Ferrari, he was at Haas. Auto sport please report correct info
He was working at Haas on loan from Ferrari. He was recalled from Haas by Ferrari, this move explains why.

Without an excellent car or very good car a talented driver has no hope to win races consistently, or podium consistently. What is needed for a championship. There is no car without excellent or extremely good engineers with creative imagination. Every team is looking for the next Obi Wan Newey Master of the Air Force. That plus a mega power unit that is reliable, strong and powerful. Once again the engineers domain.
This orchestra of engineers and fabricators lastly needs a fabulous conductor or principal. A principal that recognizes talent and can inspire it.
Mercedes is now floundering. They need a talent infusion. Time will tell if this infusion has the stuff.
