Totally agree with you on these!! And so glad that you pointed out that the curly girl method essentially co-opted info that was already out there, esp from black women.
A minimal routine is most underrated for me! When I first started getting into curly hair I was getting so frustrated trying to figure out gel, mousse, styling upside down.. now I just brush my hair out of the shower and rake in a leave in and I get my best hair!
Love this different type of video. The curl typing, couldn’t agree more. Also CGM is soooo over rated and can verge on being a cult. Having healthy hair is so personal and we can’t all be put in that box. Loving you bringing your husband in, you are such a lovely couple 😊
This was adorable!!! And totally agree that CGM is overrated. I remember my friend tell me about a year ago. I've been wearing my hair curly forever and I was like...."I know" to most of the info she told me. Also, just finally started protecting my hair at night. It's a game changer!!! Definitely under rated
I really liked this video. I know in the past you showed a little bit about root clipping. I still cant get it to work. Could you make an updated video on root clipping? Also on Amazon they have a clip in roller type thing that you put them in and they are suppose to lift your roots really easily. Would you be willing to try them and let us know what you think? they have mixed reviews
Curl typing for me is so overrated. I learn so much from types that are categorically different than my own. Majority of people I watch actually don’t have my curl type (sometimes not even close) but you can learn so much from all curl types, from products to styling techniques, etc!
I agree with that completely, most of what I’ve learned is from people with substantially tighter textures then my own! I think the benefit of curl typing more so lies with the individual. Kind of a foundational and visual tool to understand their own hair!
lol when I first started with letting my hair wavy, I would go over and over the curl typing and then thinking something was vastly wrong with my hair as It didn't look exactly as the drawings or pics. It took several years to realize that its quite normal to have different curl patterns within your hair.
Nice video Jannelle!😃 Can I ask you something about styling? I have very fine low porosity hair (2c type), I also prefer damp styling like you. I only use leave-in and gel. What is the reason behind leave-in being applied wet in the shower? And not also damp like the gel? Thanks so much!🌺🌺
Agree with you -- I'm pretty often persuaded by you :-) I say styling with SOAKING WET HAIR is overrated for me and I'm relieved to be freeing myself of this recently.
esp. on the cutting your own hair. I've had some doozy f....ked up haircuts too.. I know my own waves and curls and how they generally lay and how much they shrink.... I've even gone to your video and not putting very many layers in my hair. My hair looks so much thicker with fewer layers as my hair is fine and looser textured...I do like Manes by Mell's how to cut your own hair...
Girrrl I absolutely loved this...as i do all of your videos, you are by far my fave youtuber ❤ it always makes me so happy whenever I see you post! Oh and the Denman, as much as I do enjoy it from time to time, it def does the same thing on my hair that it does to yours...im glad I'm not the only one. Do you have thoughts on the "scrunch it brush" ?? I just found out about it lol
You guys are so cute together. I think when it comes to curly hair we don't have a choice. I think as individuals when you're young you teach yourself how to maintain your hair and not until you're older do you realize there a certain methods to help you maintain your curls. But it's not a choice. We have curly hair rather we like it or not. We have no choice but to figure it out and look to others to show us how to maintain our curls. And most of your thoughts were correct.
Got a question I've got long wavy thick fine curly hair on these ten methods making a pineapple are you spraying your conditioner water in there for each method and it comes out dry no matter which method you use
Totally agree. Regarding hairstylists- it pisses me off that to this day that they BARELY teach anything about curly hair maintenance, cut, styling in hairdressing schools. It’s still a straight hair world unless you find someone known for their curly knowledge and those people are few and far between and when you find them they are in HOT demand and you can’t get appointments! Or - Unfortunately - the appointment is way more expensive (in my neck of the woods). Honestly it bums me right out!
I agree that the CG method is overrated. I'm all for following what works for my hair but in general I find much of it is too strict to be followed all the time and is too restrictive. Curly hair is underrated too, it should definitely be celebrated more and I think your videos are so great at getting those with wavy and curly hair to embrace their natural texture. Also, you and Daniel are a super cute couple!
I reckon you've got that all down pat, girlfriend! Oh... the root clipping!! Have you done a vid on root clipping? If so, awesome! If not... could you please do one?? I'll be your best friend!!! haha! xxoo
Understanding your own hair is not stressed enough and is way underrated. Curly focused products typically slam moisture into your hair, which is great for loads of people - but absolutely hammers my hair, weighs it down, pulls the curl out. Would be great to have more products stop being lazy and hanging onto the coat tails of the hard work done by the black/natural hair community.
You're right about schools not teaching curly hair stuff. My daughter is in school now & has raised this issue at her school. Since I am the curly girl and she's played with and learned how to deal with natural curl using my hair for 20 years, I will be a guest in her class while she shows her fellow students how to deal with curls. Good thing my hair is to my butt while curly and dry cause I feel like I'm gonna get a lots of cuts in the two weeks I'm there! Pray for my curls cause they are about to be tested, girl!
😂 you deserve a medal!!! Actually really very generous of you, the hands on experience will be invaluable and will contribute to more well rounded stylists!!
Still to this day, after 63 years, I haven't found one person who understands cutting curly hair. THEY.DON'T.LISTEN! ...I have to cut my own. CGM SUPER OVERRATED! !!!!
Wavy hair in general is underrated. "Please! Your hair is not curly! Why so much product and such an effort? Just take a brush and tame the rat's nest!" Of course. ;-)
Totally agree with you on these!! And so glad that you pointed out that the curly girl method essentially co-opted info that was already out there, esp from black women.

Yippppperee!! Daniel!!!! So good to hear/see the hubby!
He’s such a good sport!!! & will be showing up more in the future 😉

Love this video! I always have fun watching when your hubby joins👏🏼A simple routine (and sticking to it) UNDERRATED!
Gary V is the best! It’s funny when I first saw your video title in the feed I thought of his series! 🙌🏼
He is one of my favorites!!!

Is there anyway you can DM me a link to what you’re referring to on Instagram?! Idk if I’ve seen what you’re talking about and now I’m curioussss!
LOVE this best friend!!! I also love that we get to see the hubby!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Keep up the amazing work-you’re killing it!

Had to go back and find your root clipping video. Stopped root clipping as I thought it was breaking my hair. Will try again

YESSSSS so agree! Damp styling is better for so many!
Wow you're one of the few who's straight up and honest. I'm subscribing
Over clumped? 🤔 I wish that was a problem i had! I end up with too much volume... Grass is always greener
Totally agree with you about all points. Love your hubby ❤️ You two are so cute!!!
Thank you for the hard water comments!!
i love your perspectives on curly hair stuff and healing and i .loved this video.

Jannelle!!! I love watching your videos, go girl! ❤ sending my love to you both
Thanks for all the information, I learn so much on every one of your videos 🙏❤️

I agree with you on pretty much all of what you rated today. ❤
All truth! But #1 is the mostest....We typically don't get chop happy when we're trimming our own hair. :)
Unquestioning support from your significant other - underrated 😁
HELP cant find the Long Hair Don’t Care conditioner...SUGGESTIONS?
I love your personality!! Like I wish we were friends lol.
That ending 😂😂😂😍😍😍

That is why I decided to cut my own curls, cause when you have a hairstylist that doesn’t have curly hair how can they know
👍
Very happy for you and hubby.!
I agree w/ everything you said.

My hair is the same way with the denman brush
You and your husband are too adorable😻
My husband also has a big beard and a shaved head. Best look for a man! 😁
This video is so adorable :D
That was so cute!!!❤️
Ha! You are both adorable! Great video!

Yup! :)
Totally agree that CGM is overrated! There's a lot of anti science fear mongering about ingredients
Y'all are too cute. 🥰
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
Here’s a tip, look into fast hair growth shampoo to double hair growth.

Because your hair will look like you were electrocuted...
