its good to see a brotha dressed for success. now, this is what our ancestors paved the way for. do your thang young man. take care and be in good health. Dr. A
I turned my life around 3 years ago! I was strung out. I came from a crappy family. Didn't have a GED. But here I am now, on my way to PharmD school! I cannot wait!!! Thanks for this video! Makes my fears turn into excitement.
This was probably the best video I've seen on youtube. This has inspired me to fulfill my dream of attending famu and majoring in pharmacy. I really appreciated your time and effort in making this video because believe it or not, you have, you are, and you will continue to change lives for the better - physically and emotionally. #famu18
George Burns This was a great video bro!!! I had an interview with the school three weeks ago to get into the pharmacy program this fall!!!! You just inspires me to stay positive for one day my dream as a professional will come true!!!
Phillip Philogene Thanks bro! Positivity is a must in life! I'm glad you took the step to pursue your goals and I hope you will be rewarded for it. Never stop dreaming.
my bro, you were a huge inspiration to me when I first watched this video five years ago. Since then I went to pharmacy school and got registered. Thank you, still love this video reminds me of pharmacy school.
+P xO Hey if you don't mind can you answer a few questions about FAMU? I'm in a community college up north right now and I am aiming for FAMU's pharmacy program by the fall of 2017. I really want to attend this school. I have a 3.5 GPA but I noticed that FAMU's pharm program is around 2.7... How rigorous is the courseload there? Are most of the girls in the AKA sorority? Did you attend another college before FAMU? Are the pharmacy students required to do a lot of extracurricular/volunteer activities? I think I'm most worried about getting in and keeping up with the courseload and extra activites.
Very accurate information. Pharmacy is not easy, but definitely doable. I'm about to finish up my P3 year, and this video is definitely encouraging. Thanks for uploading!
Saw this video a long time ago when I was still enlisted in the Army and worried I was too old to go back to college. Bam! I start medical school in Texas in July.
I would say i was really inspired by this video. Im in my 3rd year studying B.pharm in SV college of pharmacy in india and im from Africa. Sometimes i wanted to give up on pharmacy but something tells me not to ever give up. Pharmacy is a very lucrative course that need lots of sacrifices. With this video i just watched, i will never give up on pharmacy. I will strive till d end. U just inspired me with this. Thanks and God bless u real good
Thanks a lot for uploading this video, it really has inspired me to become a pharmacist. At first I was having mixed emotions on what I wanted to do after high school, wether it was trade school or College. But then I finally realized that this career has met a lot of my expectations, plus I love helping other people. Once again thanks a lot and hope all is well with you.
Well Done George- Spread the word that Pharmacy is a really interesting role. Lots of different areas of medicine need pharmacists. I work in technology and have been a pharmacist for nearly 30 years . -still enjoying it. everyday is different. UK pharmacist.
a very interesting and very motivating video. I want to be a student of pharmacy. Congratulations on your hard work and dedication along this journey from its course...
Great video ! I'm about to start pre pharmacy in the fall, and after that will be going to pharmacy school. Do you think it's possible to work while in school? I have a full time job but it's working from home, I'm just concerned I won't be able to juggle both. From your experience, do u think it's possible to work full time and go to pharmacy school ?
Great video! I would've gone to FAMU if they'd have mailed out my application the first 3 times I called! At FAMU whites and others are considered minorites at an HBCU so they get preference. So talk what you know! The course work did seem to be 1st or 2nd year material, looked like med chem...but my hats off to him! He has found a way to balance his social life and education, and many of the dry pharmacy students I went to school with could not! Best of luck to you! Do a residency!
I love to see a black man taking care of business. I would love to have him in my life. A man that's not and the street getting lock up And don'have kids take care of yourself first
Such an inspiration! When Mr. Burns stated he was 23 years old my jaw just dropped. I mean Jesus Christ the man is a role model not only for young black American males in the community but all young men everywhere! I sure do applaud your intelligence Mr. Burns! I may only still be in high school and I may be a girl but I'm following YOUR footsteps!
I feel you, I'm currently a 5th year pharmacy student at Rutgers and I decided to be a Pharmacist my 12th grade year too. Doing track and pharmacy is demanding but putting the work in and getting through the days (and nights) has really taught me about perseverance :) good luck on your NAPLEX
George thanks for the video man really grateful and motivated by it. I had a couple questions regarding famu as I hope to join the davie campus, is it a 6 year program and is the school sympathetic to a past record conviction? Also exactly how does a 6 year program work beginning with enrollment thanks hope to hear from you!
I am currently in college and I'm taking up Pharmacy. This video was a big inspiration to me because I had the mindset that getting my degree was going to be hell. But you made me realize that all I have to do is stay focuse and study harder. Thanks!! Oh by the way nice smile. You're so gorgeous;)
thank you so much for your reply i needed a reminder from someone that actually been through this :) and congrats on your graduation i wish you a successful and a happy life :)
Im not really sure what you mean by year 11. However, most universities will have a curriculum required for their pharmacy prgrm. Im pretty sure that business courses (outside of pharmacy management) aren't apart of most programs. Chemistry and biology were definitely required for my program.
i was looking for a video clip to motivate me about my choice to go to pharmacy school and i found an interesting clip. thanks man and how old are you when you finished from pharmacy school?
George Burns Hey George, I look up to you bro. You inspire me to achieve my goals. Can you please email me the studying methods you used to achieve your success. email is botube@gmail.com. Like how did you take your notes, study, plan for your test/finals.. I am going into this program and i want to be prepared. Please man,I know doctors are very busy but if You could Please help me out here, I'd appreciate it a lot. If emailing is too much to ask for, you could simply reply me back.. Thanks
I'm a incoming senior in high school & I plan on persuing a career in pharmacy. I'm a little afraid because I'm not very good in math or science. Do you think I should still persue my pharmacist degree or find something else to major in? Please answer! Thanks
I Love your video! Thank You! I'm a hopeful class 2015 for the pharmacy program (currently accepted for an interview). I have a question. If I'm accepted I wanted to work like 1-2 times a week. Do you think that it's manageable between school work or will it be too much to juggle?
yes, in the preparatory year nothing complected or anything .. but i am not from the states so this might be different depending on where you live .. good luck :)
Im thinking about going back to school and becoming a pharmacist because I got my BA in Finance and this job market is horrible. How is your experience with getting a job after Pharm school?
this is really inspirational keep up the good work.it is good to see young blk men tryna reach some goals in education.(and I wanna go to FAMU cause I live in florida
Dang George that part when you said you wanted to be an Engineer at first was totally like me. I wanted to be a Computer Engineer until senior year because I thought math was always my favorite subject. I mean your in Pharmacy school now and doing well so this really inspires me to do the same. Going to be taking my first two Pre-Pharm years this fall and hopefully I'll get in Pharmacy School. Best of luck to yall man. And also do you have to dress nice (Casual) like that every day? P1-P4?
It really depends on what schools you have available to you. Some people do 2+4 (2 years of undergrad then straight into pharmacy school) and a lot of people do 4+4 (like you said get a bachelors then apply to pharmacy school which is probably the most reliable way but 2+4 is doable if you really apply yourself for your prerequisites) There are also special programs that do 0+6 which means you're admitted into pharmacy program straight out of high school but those are difficult to get into.
Ok, thanks for reply and by year 11 i meant grade 11 at school. And yeah at the universities around me biology isn't a requirement, but i'm just wondering if i will struggle without biology, like how much of the course is on biology rather than chemistry?
Lol I know exactly what you are going through. Hang in there, it will be over before you know it. I recently just graduated in April and it feels like everything happened in 1 week. Stay focused and good luck!! Don't let it drive you crazy lol..have some fun and enjoy life.
It depends on where you're trying to get a job. Florida for example is absolutely saturated with retail pharmacists, that's why most pharmacist here are known as "floaters". They try to find available shifts at any store. There is really nothing wrong with that, but you have to have a decent car for all that commuting.
Im a certified tech too, what state do u work in and how do you get into that particular field. I've done retail pharmacy for over a year and I find it very difficult to get into a hospital or a specialized setting. I work/live in Houston, texas
George I'm really interested in pharmacy down here in Texas. I am a senior in High school, and i will graduate with a High school diploma, and a Associates in Chemistry. What information do you have for me to be able to succeed, what should I do next?
Mr. Burns, I have family that wants to be pharmacist, I researched it. I have mixed reviews on it. I read some articles, stating that the job market is saturated with pharmacist, and it's hard to get a job. Can you give me your point of view?
texasmusk It is true that the market isn't the same as it way 10 years ago. More pharmacy schools are being opened which means more pharmacists are being produced every year. The number of job opportunities depends on the city. Major city=More competition.
@Hoppi Alex, stick to it you can do it. You will make so many peoople proud! Try not to let that get to you. You will be surprise at how many people are depending on you, don't be intimidated.
@billyfabillyjolly im not exactly sure what the requirements are for vcu. you should probably check the schools website. keep up the awesome work bro!! as tony horton always says "just do your best, and forget the rest!!!"
I'm only just going into year 11 and I've chosen chemistry, business and accounting but when I chose them I wanted to do something in business. I've now researched pharmacy and really want to do it now but do you think I should change one of the business ones to biology? It's not necessary to study where i'm studying, as math B, Chem and english are required and I'm doing all of them. How much would doing Biology in year 11 and 12 help me understand the university course? Could a few pharmacy s
For those who wanna be an pharmacy major. If youre not good in chemistry then get outta here or dont even try. Im totally struggling cause of my weak base in chemistry.
Kilbeboy Joshi I'm thinking of being a pharmacist and I'm currently taking AP chemistry. Also I never even took chemistry but so far I'm fine science is pretty easy for me I hope you get better at chemistry :DD don't want you to fail
Kilbeboy Joshi Another thing xD I am a bit worried though I heard that being a pharmacist is being more saturated and you know be careful you also want to make sure you have a flexible schedule
My pharmacist got a D in chemistry and she still managed to become an excellent pharmacist. I'm not saying it's easy but everyone struggles if you want to be a pharmacist then pull through.
+AsMa ZaInAb Nothing worth having comes easily. If you have very little ability in science then maybe pursue something else, if u have a descent ability in science then do the extra mile to get to where you wanna be.
26 is definitely not too old. My sister will be 30 , and she is trying to go to medical school. You are not too old as long as you are living. I dont think that the specific degree matters as long as you have the prereqs done ( and done well )
I have been weighing my options on pharmacy school, I just declared pre-pharm, but after researching the job market I found that it was saturated with pharmacists, and that jobs in retail pharmacy are allegedly terrible. Thinking of changing my career path completely......
I've been working in the retail setting for 8 years and have cousins and friends that have been working as pharmacists in the retail setting for longer than that. They are always in need of pharmacists, but the market is slowly getting saturated. There are specialty pharmacies you can look into. And of course, an option is always to move to another city. If pharmacy is what you love and feel is your calling then go for it if you can. Good luck.
I understand your concerns. It's true that more and more pharmacists are being created each year with the increasing number of pharmacy schools opening. I think job availability will always depend on the area. Highly desirable metro-politan area are going to be the toughest to find a job without a connect or luck. There are a number of different pharmacy career fields to consider before you decide to change. Whatever you do, make sure you are happy with your choice. If you have any questions let me know.
Hey this thread is 3 years old now, did you commit to pharmacy or change career paths? If so, what did you change to? If not, how're you finding pharmacy? Thanks
its good to see a brotha dressed for success. now, this is what our ancestors paved the way for. do your thang young man. take care and be in good health. Dr. A

Hows the job market for a pharmacist in Florida?
Fifth year? Did you have to take an extra year or was it a slow paced school
Im thinking about going back to school and becoming a pharmacist because I got my BA in Finance and this job market is horrible. How is your experience with getting a job after Pharm school?
Good Luck to you in your future endeavors My Brotha

Thanks
