- Jazz me Blues Condon Eddie 1964
Under the leadership of "conductor" Eddie Condon we see an all star group playing "Jazz me blues". Wild Bill Davison and Billy Butterfield on trumpets, Edmund Hall clarinet, Vic Dickenson and Cutty Cutshall trombones, Willie 'The Lion' Smith piano, Al Hall bass and George Wettling drums. Many of the famous recordings in the late fifties and early sixties were issued on LP's (I still enjoy 'em all) but hardly a film-recording was done. I have been collecting videos for more than twenty years but this is the first time I've seen a "Condon" band in such great picture and sound quality. Recorded in New York in 1964 but ever been issued?
Everybody, enjoy these great jazz masters!
I thank God every day my parents played this music in the house. Us kids know every note
i JUST LOVE THAT wETTLING'S DRUMS!
Nice to read the appreciative comments here on the man whom Eddie C. liked to refer to as "George the Wet". Nobody surpassed him in these kinds of settings, and he was the master of the concluding four-bar break. The one he takes here, though not one of his best, is still "prettt-ttty good".
Great Condon! Love the doubleing of the brass. It takes real pro's to stay out of the way!
Thanks for this Bob.A chance to study the great George Wettling.Superb
our heroes in the Fifties...
YES YES THANK YOU GOOD TO SEE THE LION IN THERE
They were called the All Stars and man, they sure were.
Great Stuff !. George Is Hard To Top , But Check Out Cliff Leeman On The Condon Aircraft Carrier Recording ! . Marvellous. You’ll Know Where Lennie Hastings Came From !.
Great stuff, just great. Thank you so much. Ross Firestone
Yes all the great jazz drummer are gone , what a shame are younger generation would pick up on old jazz , now it loud electronic noise .
got this one on a 10" commodore lp-many of the same player!!!
Dont want it fast... dont want it slow... take your time Professor keep it sweet & low i got the dawg gone real gone jazz band jazz me blues!!!!!
Great ! I actually play this in my jazz school band
I played it in mine as well. But that was 1968-72!
There was a version of Swanee the Condon gang recorded back in the day, Mr Wettling was on drums, and it seems so hard to find postings of it anywhere. Had it on CD about 15 years ago, but like any disc that i actually played very often it ended up getting lost. Always hated those damn things! But thank you for posting this fine music! ;)
Turma boa, delicioso de se ouvir, nota-se a presença de algumas lendas ali, como Edmond Hall, Vick Dickenson, Billy Buterfield.
Jazz Greats!!!! Willie THE LION for President!!!!
oh man... That piano player's so chill with his fat stogie.
Wettling is hard to equal onthis kindof jazz.
There is a bad cut missing lots between the trombones
Cutty Cutshall for vice president.
Wild Bill's "Hey!" would probably be on the cutting room floor if this was a commercial recording. He yelled that because he fluffed his break.
Gerald Nichols I dig it. It adds to the music.
Happy Birtdag to you
What's Condon doing? Why is he not just sitting down and playing guitar?
I prefer the Jazz Me Blues a little s l o w e r.
чудесно
wild bill is playing cornet, not trumpet.
What happened to the rampart street paraders ?
A bad tape ruines jazz. If the meter is not there it's DISASTER!
"RUINS."
