The Viltrox 23mm 1.4 is officially now one of my favourite lenses for the M50 and yes I’m even including that over my L glass with the Viltrox speed-booster! It is literally so versatile and I’m even going to dare vlog with it in 2021. If they ever let us out that is! XD What do you guys think of this lens?
Wish it were black. Very interested in this focal length/aperture. I love the Canon 22mm for street and portability but for pro and event I like this one.
Well done Kai. Excellent review. I love these companies that make more affordable lenses for our mirrorless and dslr's. In the older days they were a bit naf compared to native lenses but now they are really catching up to be almost as good as their more expensive native counterparts. For example, I have a sony camera but actually don't own any sony glass thanks to tamron and sigma and its saved me a lot of coin. Never tried any viltrox lenses but also heard great things about them.
Thanks Pav! Totally relate to you here! I've only worked exclusively with L lenses on my Canon's for paid work, when they were all EF mount, now I'm jumping into the RF series and thinking that these third party companies actually might have a good thing going on here (: Might be able to save a pennies! 🤔🤔😂😂
Yes Josh! Have a serious think and check out some other reviews, I'm actually looking more closely at Viltrox now! I mean I loved their speedbooster with the L glass, but I'm even thinking that this is a better option, especially for on the go vlogging. My speedbooster might find itself hidden away in the cupboard (:
Thanks bro! I'm actually really impressed with this lens! There's a few issues still like you know, but I'll be waiting to see what they do in terms of an update (:
Great review! I loved the lens till I didn’t. It took great photos but was a bit buggy shooting video, even in manual mode. Returned and will stick to my Sigma 16mm. Subscribed!
There are no stupid questions 🙏 this is a fixed focal length lens, referred to as a prime - so you don’t zoom the lens you have to move around to get the composition and shot you want 🙏☝️
With the traditional formula 1/focal length times crop factor, this lens will work down to 1/35s without image stabilization. But with the high ISO performance of modern digital cameras, not having stabilization isn't an issue.
Just a little piece of advice. For me to get this lens to work with my Canon m50 mark ii I had to go into my camera settings and change a setting to get it to work. They don't tell you this anywhere. You have to enable the shutter
As I'm on the verge of purchasing the Canon M50 Mark II, I've really been enjoying your reviews and was specifically interested in this review of the Viltrox AF 23mm f/1.4 M. My question to you is, how does it rate against the Canon EF-M 22mm? With the Viltrox's larger maximum aperture, does it make it the winner or does the Canon beat it in other categories? I'd very much appreciate your opinion. Thanks in advance!
thanks kai. i have the viltrox 23 on the canon m50 mark 2 and i don't get it. i put the camera on a tripod, start to film, and as my body "sways" forward and backward the focus goes from sharp to blurry to sharp to blurry etc. do you have any ideas? i would appreciate the help. thank you. dan brock
Hello! I'm searching for a lens to film. My workouts at home and in the gym. So I mean by this that the camera isn't that far away from me. Would you recommend this lens or should I go for the sigma 16mm f1. 4?
still have the same flicker in auto mode in video, anyone??? for fast run and gun I always put in auto mode but it ruined the video. for manual shoot it is fantastic. I only do manual when shooting at night, and some occasion when have time to compose the shoot daylight with nd filter. wish viltrox fix it.
Yes this flicker issue is not just me... hoping a fix comes out for it soon - this was going to be one of the main lenses I recommend for the M50 - but now it's hard not to mention the flickering!
I find the video with the viltrox 23mm nicer then what you are filming the video with. It looks so dusty as if the colours are faded. If it is a cinema filter you put over it it should look not look this faded.
Duh, canon has a 2mm M lens which you interestingly did not bother to mention. It has an aperture of 2.0. How about some intellectual integrity. An honest review would have compared them.

Mine has bad vignetting wide open
You got some really nice shots there! Great lens for portrait work!
Big statement coming from the Pros! 💪💪 💗💗

Great break down and review Kai! Hope you have a great 2021!
Thanks man - Hope you have a good one! (:
Yess been waiting on this review from you!
Took at lot longer than I thought 😅
Excellent review Kai, and some really nice shots. Hope the fish survive!
Ahhh mr rossco you make an appearance here 🤩🤩
@@KaiCreative Yes indeed, realised I didn't have the notification on 😅
Is there a black version?
Viltrox def seems to be creating some nice lenses these days! I very seriously looking into getting one of these for my M50!

Great review! Pretty much had the same thoughts on this lens. Really good value and you just can't beat that 1.4 aperture!

On my wishlist 👍🏽
Perfect review, I’m going to buy it for my M50!

Very nice review bro. 👍🏼
Thanks my brotha, As always! Hope we can create some content together soon!!
I just purchased this lens and I’m new to the videography world. This is probably a stupid question but how do you zoom in and out with this lens?

I want this in black SoOoOoO bad!!! Why is it only available in silver for canon?
Bro! Thanks for the video. How does this compare to the 22mm 2.0 pancake lens?
Thanks Yong! I don't know tbh, I need to do a side by side review 🤔
Whitch better sigma 30 or viltrox 23 to canon m50? Sigma is more expensive.
I cant wait for this invoice
Hope you enjoyed it bro!

Wow I like this lens!!
Hey Victor! This lens is good ... But I don't think they do it for the EF mount 😅😅 So you might have to pass on the SL3
@@KaiCreative sad!!!
What happy medium diffusion filter Density strength would you recommend using this lens with the M50?
good review and good lens 😃
Thanks Weida! (:

Is the A on that aperture ring for "Aperture" or "Automatic" (like does it set the Aperture automatically?)
Works in the original eos m?
i think the 22mm f2 canon still a good deal. the aperture might not as fast as this ,but overall f2 can handle low light very good
True, I think I need to do a side by side review 🤔
I love how tiny the M50 is with the 22 pancake

Cost sounds great! I do have the 22 f/2 already. And the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 isn't too much more...hmm...
