Muteba is an underrated fighter of the tournament.
Keep in mind, he's not formally trained in any kind of martial art but he's a trained mercenary who specializes in a battlefield.
If you read the manga, the other fighters are actually impressed at how Muteba is able to adapt to a one-on-one fight that the others are disturbed at how good he is in hand-to-hand combat
