      The SS Jumbo absolutely is not some run of the mill paper thin wood board. Its a chunky bat one of the greatest ever. My father has one from his FC days and it compares really well with my 2011 GN Oblivion LE. The middle in the Jumbo is for sure better and longer. GN oblivion middle was a little wider.

      During ViV Richards' time, bouncer was not allowed in ODIs (they would be called no ball). In 2001, the 1 bouncer per over law came into affect in ODIs, while the 2 bouncer rule came into affect in 2012.

      Exactly. As I followed the camera going behind the ball, precisely the same thought occurred to me too. Another thing to note about those days was the absence of helmet. Thompson, Lillee, Hall, Marshal, Holding, Garner, Roberts , Willis, Imran, Sarfraz -- no matter who was bowling, the batsmen took huge risk in playing without helmets.

    I always thought the confidence in cricket matters most. Viv Richard's was beyond great even if he had scored 2000 runs only in cricket still he would be considered the mass murderer of good fast bowling on any ground.

      Totally agree. Also, bouncers make a huge difference. Also the bowling in Viv’s era was the toughest - Likes of Lillee, Thompson, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Ian Botham, Bob Willis etc, all time greats playing in the same era. No batsman ever like the great Viv!!😳

      You pay just to see him. Sometimes I felt he just got bored when he went out during one day games. He hit a quick fire 30 to 40 runs and say that's it for me. You guys do the rest. Then he would pick up the ball and take a nonchalent 3 wickets off 10. The classiest bloke, coolest captain.

    Whoever played cricket in those days with no helmet or other protection and on a crazy pitch with not so powerful bats, to face those tough bowlers are like a warriors and bravest to the ultimate. Some stood taller, stronger and unmatchable like Sir Viv Richards. Amazing to watch.

      There's a problem with the thinking of current fitness coaches. They don't allow tearaway bowlers to go all out. They force them to hold back so they can play more series. Even 10-15 yrs back, fast bowlers had a mind of their own and wont bother sending someone to the hospital if they were pissed off. They dont produce the likes of them anymore.

    This is how legendary player Viv behaves after hitting... I have seen many occasions... No fist pumps, no hi fives.. nothing whatsoever.. chewing his gum and cool as cucumber... Just absolute master class....

    Man I loved watching Viv bat (and bowl) when I was a kid in the 80’s. I used to pretend I was him when playing cricket all the time.

    To do this to one of the fastest bowlers of all time, without a helmet, no chest guard, uncovered pitches, not too many batting manuals or coaches, not too many videos to look at to get used to the action, infact very few tours maybe once in 4 years to get used to someone's action, no ipl, no fitness training at current level, no bowling machines, no simulation and bang, that's the shot.
    Imagine what a player He would have been with all these aids!!! A pure natural!!!!
