giggling kicking my feet. i will point out though that in the manga, in the flashback to the graveyard accident, it’s shown that laios’s dad it the chief of the village. (for whatever reason the implication is removed from the anime???) i always found this fact very funny. laios run away from home and potential destiny of leadership and arrived to… a potential destiny of leadership, God Damn It just let my boy be a biologist in peace
I read it in a weekend like after episode 3. I'm reading it again since it was licensed in my country and let me tell you. Have patience. The anime has been a great adaptation and I just know it'll do justice to the second part. It's SO good. Wait and read it after it's done, it'll be worth the wait.
I legit slammed my hand over my mouth several times as though I was physically preventing myself saying something to spoil someone else in the room. The room I am alone in. I will say I'm actually salivating at the thought of seeing some of the Canary action scenes animated.
It's interesting to me that you didn't talk about the fact that Kensuke's hilt did NOT have a lion head on it when Laios first got it. Laios even seems surprised to see the lion head decoration when he inspects the sword during Yaad's prophecy.
I've already read the manga but at this point I had some of the same theories as you, I was super excited to meet the Lion and let me tell you I was not dissapointed.
at this point in my read of the manga, i was definitely suspicious of the winged lion as well, though maybe not so much as a puppetmaster figure but more from a doylist perspective of thinking "oh i doubt this winged lion is going to be the deus ex machina that resolves the conflict as soon as it's freed." haha
gotta say you have the best dungeon meshi analysis videos on youtube for sure. youre asking questions i wasnt even considering yet at this point in the story. id love to see you revist these videos in the future when the series is over and see how much you got right or wrong and what stuff you didnt expect at all too. its just really fun watching you try to figure it out. almost wish i hadnt read the manga so i could be theorizing right along with you lol
Manga reader here: good luck avoiding story spoilers people. The second half is too good that as season 2 is going, I know others will spoil. But people should read the manga the anime doesn’t include a lot of nuance that fleshes out the characters. Plus mangaka’s should be more directly supported.
Love hearing these theories, I have already read the manga, so hearing somebodies ideas about what happens next is great! I think you will love season two, though we will sadly have to wait for that, I am very excited, there is one part that I am really looking forward to seeing animated.
When the anime was announced a while back I was just going to read a few chapters of the manga because I heard good things about the story and before I knew it i finished the entire manga before the first episode of the anime even aired. 💀💀💀 I got mind controlled by black magic fr.
YESS NEW DUNMESHI THEORY VID!!! You're so damn powerful for avoiding manga spoilers cuz I felt such an immense void after the end of season 1 that I ran over to read the entire masterpiece that is the manga! Getting back into theory mode tho, I'm always cautious of the bait & switch optimism that Ryoko Kui presents us with.. I mean we saw the optimism of Laios & Marcille in resurrecting Falin and how terribly dark the story turned... There's always a hint of darkness lingering and it seems to get more potent as the story progresses with the desires, Marcille's nightmares, and the reveal of the western elves + more political world building. Are dungeon lords destined to turn evil like the mad mage?? If so, what's to become of the prophecy that Laios is chosen to be the new dungeon lord?
Your theories make it sound like you're having a lot of fun with this show. I really like that. I wonder if this is how Miyazaki feels like? Knowing how it'll end, but still having fun seeing it unfold.
ohh how i love hearing anime onlys' theories and interpretations literally giggling and kicking my feet rn. i also just wanna compliment your ability to pick up on foreshadowing, even when its quite subtle! youre piecing many things together far quicker than i did personally haha. i cant WAIT for you to see more of the canaries, and especially to learn more about their captain. same goes for thistle, who honestly might be my favorite character personally. im also sooooo looking forward for your inevitable video(s?) on the winged lion lol
I read the manga in about 2 days after the golden country/western elves episode (I think ep 21) because I got so invested in the plot and had to know what happened next and then I just couldn’t stop reading haha. So yeah having finished the manga, hearing your theories is great because I think you have some really good analysis of the story. I think you’ll love season 2. Almost all of my favourite moments of the show will happen in season 2.
Like always you're very sharp and even adding new interpretations that the pre existing fandom hasn't explored yet, these videos are very fun to watch 😊
Ngl i'm actually look forward to see your reactions more than the anime itself. As a manga reader, i unfortunately didn't have much time to think or come up with theories at this point because i binged the entire manga until the most recent update over a couple days. Then went back to reread the entire series + extras while i wait for the anime XD
I must say that you mentioned some pretty important stuff when it comes to overall plot. Noticing some of really neat foreshadowing that I did not pick on originally. So good job on overall analysis, because you picked up on some of really important stuff. Not saying all your theories are spot on, but suprisingly, more than one is.
As a manga reader: 1.- wow you are so good at analyzing things. 2.- so far everyone has played nice and hasn't spoiled you much of anything, but please do yourself a favor and stop reading the comments, eventually some dunce is going to come along and ruin the fun, hopefully not tho.
Yes!! You go you funky little anime watcher spin your magical theories This is what I've wanted to see from anime only viewers that manga readers lay still on, it's that puzzle piecing mind set The stone is familiar to me, but for y'all it's a fresh pavement with an exciting destination ready to be discovered I wish you luck on that no spoilers
Great thoughts! I love seeing people think deeply about this series - Ryoko Kui put so much thought into it, it's very rewarding to really dig into it in return.
With how the manga ends I'm sure there could be more to tell, Marcille will eventually share a role with Frieren after her friends pass & it'd be fun to see her mellowed out. While taking on the role of guiding her friends children & grandchildren, seeing traces of them in their offspring & reminiscing about days gone by.
I've been looking for some Dungeon Meshi content to fill the void after finishing season 1, that isn't the manga. This video is exactly what I've been after, so thanks for making it.
As a Manga reader, trust me when I tell you that the 2nd season in animation will be 10x better than in Manga. Its one of those things that BEGS to be animated Also, I know you're gonna love Season 2, it's SO GOOD
As someone who already finished the manga, these mysteries makes me wonder and slowly realize a lot of stuffs. Tho I wish the author write more chapters for us to know the characters more
Lots of stories in fantasy focus on a prophecy. *A prophecy.* Interesting that it seems that the lion is implied to share *multiple* prophecies, as stated by the folks in the Golden Country with Delgal and the winged sword prophecies as explicit examples.
In the show it was said that both Liaos and Falin are from the northern island as it was shown that both of them sailing to the island during the flash back epsiode 24 when liaos was explaining how both his and Falins journey started when Senshi ask him
Honestly I would love it if you did read the full manga 😅 i want to see your reaction and commentary to it more than i want you to be unspoiled when the second anime season comes out

I would like to point out that being halfway through the story, we aren't given an explicit reason why black magic is bad except the unspoken true that too much power (magic in this instance) leads to bad things. Neither do we see anyone (so far) using it purely for evil. Marcille uses it for resurrection; Thistle wants to find Delgal and will do anything needed, meaning that he is willing to do bad and immoral things but still isn't purely with an evil purpose; The Canaries - criminals convicted of using black magic yet given an important task to take care of dangerous dungeons and not (at least visibly) being watched over to make sure they won't do anything evil, in other words they are seen as trustworthy and not bad (or at least that's my take on it). I would love to see black magic being explored more in the second half of the story because it seemingly takes part in many aspects of the worldbuilding and yet isn't talked much about. Sorry if there are mistakes, English isn't my first language.
well, the Canaries DO seem quite odd.. and their bodies do seem.. experimented with? as in, ritualic tatoos an dthe leaders weird eye(s) Even Thistle is mad.. and Marcille has not really used black magic much and isnt an expert. maybe its gonna mess with her pysically or mentally as well?
I had all these spots over the years where I'd be binging all the available english translations and then force myself to forget about the manga, and then two years later , I'd binging all the available manga on repeat lol. how is it my friend?
I feel like Winged Lion is not something to trust for... like Kyubey
The Manga ends with the Winged Lion turning towards tge reader and saying "I am evil just like Kyubey from Madoka Magica"
most important question for the second season IMO, as posed by Laois in episode 16: *"what does a dungeon eat?"*
Season 2 is going to be an absolute *blast*. I can't wait!
