  • In this exclusive, in-depth interview recorded on May 30th 2023, I talk to Noam Chomsky about some of the most pressing issues that the world faces today. He breaks down the urgent crises of nuclear war and climate change, the decay and irrationality of our contemporary public discourse, as well his linguistic theory of Universal Grammar.

You amplified Chomsky, this is a rare accomplishment.

Chomsky as clear and prescient as ever and a grand job of interviewing! The linguistic stuff is complex, and he needs to be interrogated more fully on this as he is a Linguistics Prof, but is very rarely quizzed about it. You are a promising young man!

With poor production quality i. e. sound clarity and volume, Noam Chomsky is hard to hear and comprehend in some videos I have seen on RUclips. This is perfectly clear I can hear and understand every word spoken. This is excellent, thank you for this interview.

I would recommend people watch this on 1.5 speed. it cuts through the heaviness of Chomsky's slow speech and reveals the clarity of thought faster and more clearly for the average listener.

Good job on the interview! Several of your questions seemed to be about what concrete steps could you or other young people take to bring about what you perceive as positive change. Chomsky is good at broad scale analysis and concepts, but maybe isn't so helpful with nitty gritty of discussing what steps to take in response. It strikes me that you might try looking at Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals", a classic book about how to bring about change through community organizing.

Sound quality wasn't great, but primarily a low volume issue. Nothing that a sound booster couldn't fix. With volume low, it can actually be a plus, because it forces one to concentrate to listen. Aside from critizing sound quality, I think this was an excellent interview, great questions!!!! It was clear the interviewer did his homework and also could reformulated question spontaneously. You asked clear, direct questions, and that allowed Professor Chomsky to answer questions directly, fairly concisely, and with more depth than some other interviewers can pull out of the Professor. Again, good job.

The answer to the interviewer's last question can be summed up: 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Something ventured, something gained - maybe.' Most attempts at change, will fail. Emotionally bruising? Yes. Excuse for giving up? NO!

if my dog could make the sound "i want out" it seems likely he would learn to. he scratches at the door, he runs to me and over there. he comes back and shifts his weight between his feet to show this is something urgent. when he wants back in, he can whine or squeak or come over and paw at the window, and he knows which door i am going to open. but he could not pick "i want out" from a short list of sounds? i bet if there were buttons a paw could push, he would learn which one it was mapped to in a few minutes.

Chomsky, like numerous learned elderly people, can do with resources to develop the 'how to' of their visions. Younger learners who gain a head-start by studying the writings and conversations of people like Chomsky, and go to develop a variety of exercises to put the visions into practice. So that more people can occupy themselves attempting to attain levels of completions developed like a game.

      The dog barks.
      Subject + verb.
      Dogs have teeth.
Teeth predicate dogs? What kind of identity (or, existence) do teeth, have on their own? If, the dog, was biting;- I might, understand.

Pursuing fitness as an alternative to UBH - universal basic health. Fitness over health as an alternative to health insurance coverage. Fitness promotes recovery from illness back to basic health better than medical practices that proliferates medicines and medical procedures. Fitness gains with little pain or low discomfort using incremental improvements through repetitive attempts lead to gradual increases in intensity and types of physical movement. Games for fitness can utilize the lure of gamification to the edge of addictive behaviors based on interests and choices. Variety of sports together with hero-worship taps on passion to get started, and then gamified with levels of performance for continued if not consistent efforts.
Individual fitness pursuits build up group resilience that can keep people engaged in team competition with agreed rules and thus away from violence and uncivilized behaviors due to lack of organized teamwork and shared visions or group goals based on cooperative teamwork.

Jake, you can't be serious. What is it with the constant diversions from reality which is a signature tactic of US inability to come to grips with universal health care.
Of what use is being fit if you vehicle is crushed by an 18 wheeler.
What happens if your child falls prey to a rare genetic condition.
Your body deteriorates as it ages depending on all sorts of factors which may include wear and tear of working.
Universal health care has been applied by large numbers of countries over many decades.
      It's a known quantity.
Adopt it and breathe a sigh of relief.

So he's finally given up on his absurd take on the Ukraine/Russian conflict.
About time. Has he realised that his position would have favoured an aggressive, fascist, increasingly tyrannical Russian regime, consequently it's no longer worth defending.
    One can only hope.
