Very very informative! would love to see this done with a heavy bass 2 track to see how you would tackle that as this beat is near enough perfectly balanced
Always wondered why it sounded so much better when I had waves tune on individual rather than bussed. Thank you for that tip. Great video as usual! Glad you’re back!
Yo I’m so glad studio rack let’s you use vst3 now that’s so dope my uad native plug-ins were messing up in pro tools but they work just fine in studio rack so win win win
Great content man! Can you do a video on how to snap your vocals on beat? Like if you rap off beat how to make the vocals be on beat? Not sure if that’s possible.
Ultimately, depends on the maximizer (some are more transparent than others). Generally speaking, yes, if the gain reduction is minimal should be fine.
Hey Sean, been a while but im back on your channel to get back to mixing. Can you do a new/updated video of mixing a beat please? Much love as always brother
MASTERCLASS as always, Sean!!! 🎉 Definitely learned a lot from you over the last 7ish years… Feels good to understand the moves you make compared to when I was younger 😂 I’m even vibin to the track with ya hahaha peace, brother! PS: FIRE TRACK!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Hey Sean I hope you are well. I always route back to your old videos to learn. Question: Am I able to side chain to a vox all bus, if I am building a full song? Using a 2 track beat.
Yes, you can sidechain to a vocal bus with a two-track beat to help the vocals stand out. Use a compressor on the beat track and set the vocal bus as the sidechain input.
@@wcproduction3142 wait but he used FF Q3 which is an EQ. So my Vox all track will have everything verse, hook, harm, and adlibs. Instead of putting multiple eqs on the beat track and side chain individually. Right?
3 questions: One, is there any other plugin I could use that isn't the Waves MutltiMaximizer, but has similar features? I use Logic, any stock plugins that are similar? I also have Slate Digital, Antares, and Softube...I'll buy Waves soon enough lol Second, is this song considered mastered to you? It sounded mastered to me, but would you consider that just a mix? Would you bounce that out for a separate mastering session? Third, when mixing/mastering a 2-track beat, SHOULD ONE NEVER USE A LIMITER on the stereo output for a 2-track production, at least not a pure one, or one that can't do individual band frequencies? Is that MultiMaximizer not a limiter? What is that plugin exactly? Just wanna be clear here...thanks for the video!
You could try the Multipressor in Logic. It's just a multiband compressor (not a limiter). I would suggest keeping ratios / attenuation very low to keep the effect from wrecking your dynamics. You can definitely use a standard limiter. It's just generally not going to be as transparent in the low end or have as much control as we have in this case.
I’m very new to recording rap vocals. I record about -12 db, I cut out 70 and under do a bit more EQ stuff, use a de-esser, compression, sometimes Valhalla on a send, sometimes double vocals and pan the ad-libs, but have no clue about mastering. What even is it? Do I use a limiter? Should I use saturation?
HI! Can you hear a slight hiss from the tweeter of A8H? I do hear it from 5 or even 7 feet slightly with mine, it"s like a white noise, and level of hiss arises with rising volume control at the back, and drops with lower volume. Nothing connected to speaker. Could you be so kind to check, does your pair hisses to?
No. I can hear a very, very faint white noise but only if I put my ear right up to it. Sounds like yours could be defective or something hooked up is causing it.
@@SeanDivine Hey, I appreciate your answer. Mine do hiss audibly form over 3 meters, it is not very loud, I quess some people with diffrent hearing, might not notice it. Anyway for me it is distracting, so I arranged exchange for new pair with adam audio. I hope the will not hiss. All best.
This is intended just for creating a commercial level mix (playing in the car, sharing with friends, etc). If you’re sending to an outside mastering engineer, take off the plugins on the stereo bus and turn down the master output to provide some headroom.
I tracked with the vocal chain in this video, nothing else. There was also some light hardware compression on the way in. I generally keep mic input levels around -25 lufs integrated (-18 peak).
Instead of using a multiband maximizer would a multiband compressor work just as well? or a multiband limiter? I'm not sure what priority does in waves multimaximizer. Does it set the attack or threshold? Also I don't understand how you're raising the volume of the total mix without using a limiter, does the waves multimaximizer raise the total volume of the mix, cause you have to turn down the volume of the 2 track mix and vocals
Sean , on the Bus Compression in this tutorial , you use the SSL. Just wondering if you have heard of the BUSTER SE by Analog Obsession. It’s a free Bus Comp. I’m not able to get the SSL one at the moment , but it seems that Analog Obsessions comp has similar parameters to the SSL. Just wondering if you have ever messed with it a little. Thanks amigo. Stay up brother ! I jam you here in Austin Tx always bro ! “Come Alive!” 😎
Have not tried that. They have big sales on the SSL Bus Comp especially towards Thanksgiving... I'd keep an eye out for that one (it's the best ssl comp plugin I've tried) 🙌
ughhh ik im being so annoying right neow but i dont understand the limiter thingy u use for the 2 beat sound track or how ever its called like how do u know what to do with it and when do u stopp
If the beat is already at commercial loudness, set the ceiling to -1 and leave the threshold alone. If you need to bring the overall level up with your vocals, pull down the threshold lightly as needed and keep the gain reduction to a minimum!
Fire bro 🔥 I was mixing a cinematic intro song for an artist recently & dude it was a night mare. I really think those type tracks aren't created to coexist with vocals lol

Good to have you back Sean!
It’s crazy you’re still doing 2-track tutorials as someone who still struggles to mix in general let alone with a 2-track this is dope.
Just keep practicing!!!! U may be improving & not even realizing it
That’s the thing about mixing you don’t really notice it when you get good. You just get good. Keep practicing You’ll get there !🔥🔥🔥

What do you usually have the beat hit at dB wise before recording on to it ? and where should the vocals be hitting at ?
bravo, belle présentation
