There is something about California pizza (In spite of what New Yorkers and Chicagoans think.) Straw hat, Shakey's (My first pizza.), and Round Table. The narrow slices, the crispy crust, the zesty sauce, and the pepperoni. the blend of cheeses, the slight greasiness! When I am really Jonesing for one and can't get it Red Barron is a fair substitute . Straw Hat was so good, I had a hard time not eating the whole pizza and Shakey's is the ONLY pizza that is good cold the next day!
Straw Hat was one of my first pizzas I ever ate back in the 80s, and their restaurants were awesome. I remember the saw dust (or wood chips?) on the floors, the arcade in the back, the Orange Bang, and definitely the pizza was awesome. It had that crust that separated as it rose, with huge air bubbles raising the top later of crust. The day it turned into a PIzza Hut was one of the worst days of my life. I'm kidding but it I miss it so much and would do anything to get it again. This Straw Hat pizza in the video looks fine but it doesn't look anything like the original. I went to a Straw Hat in Texas about a decade ago when they started opening up restaurants there and it was trash.
