In one of my Kenshi playthroughs I dedicated an unnecessary amount of time in to trying to conquer the slave camp when you pick the slave start. I found out pretty quickly that if you knock the guards out and put them in a cage their fellow guards will enslave them without a second thought. Truly the world of Kenshi is as brutal as it is merciless.
4:16 The deep poetic meaning is you are recreating the opening scenes of the hit 1997 film "The Postman" where Kevin Costner makes his escape from slavery across an aged and dilapidated bridge.
i liked that movie. so many hate on it. that said i not seen it as an adult. been around 20 years since i seen it. or more. so i may not like it anymore. i may of only seen it once. someday i do intend on buying it.
a favorite minor detail of mine is how hard it is to find a good, defensible place to build a settlement in most of the map. It makes sense, all of the good spots are already claimed by major factions, except the most hostile regions.
I've done this challenge before, and people don't realize how easy it is to starve to death once you're actually out. The moment you break free, you're no longer a slave and that hunger meter starts ticking down. It's extremely difficult to get food in time unless you have an existing stockpile, or manage to get lucky enough to be mining outside the gate after you'd already eaten the night before.
I got lucky when my second guy broke out, bc I had released a hiver and he has some stacked stats and I carried my unconscious guy to a Holy Farm and ransacked it for food.
Near rebirth there's a lone shack owned by the flotsam that is specifically there to help slaves. There's trashy weapons and armour but there's alot of food and medical supplies all for free. You'll also find a nice note from the flotsam
Basically you gotta steal food from the barrels and stuff inside the slave camp before breaking free. Unlock your cage and shackles at night and sneak around until you get good at sneak and steal. Time is on your side and even if they kick the crap out of you you just get more toughness so it's actually a pretty awesome start if played right. You can also chuck some food to your buddy during the day when you both happen to walk past each other (like when you go from one stone node to the next) and if you click move real quick while doing labour your character will run to another stone node or work area and that way you can even train athletics. The guards will kick your ass if they see you moving away from a work spot so only do it where they can't see you.
4:16 A poetic meaning I can think of is that the bridge represents Preeeedz's long and unknown journey ahead. That bridge is barren and has many holes, covered in what looks to be rusty metal sheets Preeeedz can't be too sure the next step he takes will be another step towards freedom, or will be his demise as his weight on the sheet might be enough to cause it to fall into an unseen gap ending his life, his dreams, and his mission to grant freedom for all slaves.
Now I'm a dad and working 24/7 i don't have the time to actually play these games anymore. Watching all the progress of a tactic condensed into an hour video is definitely a therapeutic experience for me.
@thatguypredz Just a tip for later. If you only want one person getting exp from fighting you can throw the others in guard stance. This buffs their defenses and makes it so they will not attack. Just in case someone decides to attack them they'll have a defense bump too, I believe it's +20 to their defenses.
Takes me back to my first playthrough. I decided to go full hardmode and managed to get both of my dudes out. First was the Hiver because he could book it, then he came back and rescued his partner. I didn't even care what happened after that, because it was just a crazy AF way to start any game. Kenshi is like a story waiting to be written whenever you play it.
So many great characters in this video but if i had to rank my top five it would go Triangle Bandit, Triangle Bandit, Triangle Bandit, Triangle Bandit and last but certainly not least Triangle Bandit
Best starting capital is looting and selling the rusty chainmail from the shek ruins near Squin helps avoid the mining phase of early game. From their run the hash trade route, steal beak thing eggs, fog prince heads, whatever method you like best for making some more quick cats.
Something I do is take my skelly starter chacter and then run to the deadlands and loot all the ruins (you can just bait the spiders out of them, their ai is really buggy in open space) and then sell whatever I find to black desert city. I normally don't ever bother with making a settlement so the books and blueprints go for a ton. also any weapons you find can be sold or used for yourself, along with anything else you may find.
Making a base is always fun. My home ended up being on one of the bluffs on the edge of the Foglands and it ended up being a great spot. Called it The Sliver and was easy to defend since each end made natural chokepoints great for harpoon turrets. Was fun sending out parties to hunt any Fogmen that popped up and put some of them on crosses along the paths up to my settlement.
a good way to train stealth as a slave is to enable sneak when you're being forced to do your duties. your character automatically walks when you do it, so it gets high super fast. it also trains toughness because you get your ass kicked when you do get caught
I am SO glad you are playing Kenshi! I watched your zomboid vids and thought, this guy might like Kenshi and be entertaining as hell to watch play it. The way you make it a story fits into Kenshi so well. Great video! I'm more into Kenshi than Zomboid so this was epic.
"The only place I could think to go" I knew where it was before you even finished the sentence. Kenshi be like that. Also, this is a good game to branch out of PZ to. Similar enough to carry some audience but different enough to combat that burnout. Edit: Also, isnt' Rane a woman?
I was thinking that the whole time! I’m almost positive Rane is a woman lmfao. I ended up deciding it was funnier to pretend Preeedz was being babysat by his buff ass girlfriend the whole time or something, with their version of date night being going off and kicking ass as a power couple.
This vid was so fun. I took a particular liking to one of the misfits, and had a ton of fun picking them out in various battles. Hope to see this continued!
My two favorite variants of an anti-slavery run in Kenshi are shek kingdom runs and skeleton runs. Aligning with the shek is really fun because skeletons are overpowered and theres a fun narrative of the only major faction that doesn't practice slavery wiping out the other two and taking over most of the world. But aligning with Tinfist is also pretty great for a hardcore run, due to the anti-slavers living in one of the most dangerous areas in Kenshi and being so far from the United Cities (ie you either learn to survive on your own far from skeleton repair equipment, or you spend literal days going back to the anti-slavers after each fight).
I know this is an old video, but to anyone watching; you can loot the hide/meat from an animal to permanently and instantly kill it(this also works on Fog Princes and Gurglers).
I found that in slave start you can train your strength up to 30 by just unlocking shackles and keeping them in your inventory eventually when the guards check on you in cages they will put another shackle on you basically infinite shackles, then toughness from the guards beating you up, Plus your stealthy skills sneaking can be lvl up fast by just naturally sneaking everywhere, assassination is best to grind with the slaves underneath the statue on the prisoner pole, and thievery by graving everything thats not in a container and if its labeled stolen you can just drop them all in one place and pick them back up. :DDD hope this helps someone
Don't be fooled by the difficulty rating on the 'slaves' start, it is a very op start. You get to level up assassination, stealth, lockpicking, athletics, and toughness for free, without damaging relations. Only hard part is escaping, but you get to pick your moment so it is manageable.
I had a pretty successful run making a little rebel camp inside the walls of Rebirth. I focused on finding one white dude I could use, and dedicated a ton on helping him escape. Then I just had him smuggle stuff in, and had a small army of slaves that I kept re-arming anytime they'd fail a revolution.
4:15 Preeeedz Was walking on the bridge to freedom. The bridge is broken and has holes because his freedom is not whole…..Until everyone is saved and he is in peace
probably been mentioned before (in fact it may have been in your tips vid), but, you don't have to worry about stolen stuff when the guards search you. they just want your narcotics.
The long bridge run where he was escaping the slave camp you said to come up with something poetic for. So what I came up with was. Crossing the rusted and forgotten bridge to the life he nearly gave up hope on once being able to return to.

Ending Slavery in Kenshi in only 100 days? Both Holy Nation and the UC? Gotta see this!.. You were certainly on your way by the end, but it's a monumental task. I got less than half way with the UC myself after The Holy Nation but was using smaller, more specialized squads that took well over 100 days to build up in stats. Still a challenge. "End slavery in Kenshi"
*Immediately starts taking bandits as slaves*
To be fair, they did 'agree' to be slaves.
I look at it as saving them from a permanently hungry existence
Not slaves, involuntary compadres
That's called private prison
Its not slavery, its forced imploiment.
