Homeowner is a new fan of solid PVC instead of corrugated pipe. Seeing is believing!

  • I came out to this job for flooding under the crawl space encapsulation. The homeowner thought he knew where the water was coming in because of some previous issues. We walked around the house and I was brainstorming/thinking out loud. He didn't like what I was saying because I noted some green algae and gravel as a possible intrusion point. He seemed to be getting annoyed with me because he thought I was wrong. I told him the true test would be to put the garden hose on and see what happened. He asked if I had time, and we threw the water on. Instantly we reproduced the flooding under the encapsulation liner. He was so impressed he gave me a tip!
    However, he still asked us to "make sure" the pipes will solve the flooded crawl space issues. So we installed some above ground pipes to demonstrate that catching and carrying the gutter water gets it away from the foundation. Of course, I had no problem working with him to get the flooding taken care of. He was so impressed that the pipes solved his flooded crawl space and told me he doesn't mind the rain anymore! This was an interesting project and a great customer to work with!

    Again, at 5:03 you calmly let your worker know that riser needs to be higher. Even just before that, he showed you what he had in mind, but you were firm with exactly where you wanted it to be beneath the soil or pine needles. Very good temperament. And I can tell your workers respond very well and positively to your directions. Good team.

    You’re very thorough. I noticed when one of your workers said “we can leave this just like it is”, you calmly and nicely opposed that, and said you guys would get it down lower to where the pine needles could cover it up. Boy I wish you guys were here in MI. I admire this characteristic. And I could understand how happy your customer was when you simply demonstrated where the water penetration was. Good job Sean!

    I don't like corrugated either but I had 2 gutters going through at least a couple hundred feet of buried corrugated for 25+ years before we had a problem. It outputs somewhere in the woods that I can't find. The people we bought the house from are no longer with us so there's no way to know when it was installed. Does anyone know when they first started using corrugated? My house was built in 1956.

      Corrugated works but is subject to major problems. I say place a quality pipe in your trench.

      @Enterprise One you are completely correct with plumbing applications. Think one flush worth of water at a time. In drainage applications we have thousands of square feet of surface area draining into the pipe so there is plenty of water to blow out the debris. Great comment!

    In near future I be doing underpinning for our mobilhome. South wall will be a retaining wall, backfilled to slope into ditch about 20 ft parrellel. Where ought I to position the french drain ? Along wall or out about 5 ft ? I appreciate your good advice.

    When you show that water will go to neighbour slowly. I think neighbour might sue the owner once he see this video. 😀😀

      As long as we're not discharging directly onto a neighboring property we are good. Our laws say you're not responsible for water flowing downhill.

    • @amtank
      @amtank 3 года назад

      I don't know. I don't live in NC anymore but I believe there are cases about converting general downhill runoff into a point source just off the property lines.

    • @DaddyBeanDaddyBean
      @DaddyBeanDaddyBean 3 года назад +1

      Where I live (small town in northern Pennsylvania), you can discharge it on the ground where it will run on to the neighbor's property, as long as you do so at least 10 feet back from the property line. There's still being a good neighbor (making a good-faith attempt to discharge it where it will do no harm) and being a jerk (gathering all your gutters into one pipe and discharging it a perfectly legal 10 feet 2 inches from the property line, aimed directly at the neighbor's rose garden and pool).

    Is it ok to put pea gravel down next to brick house on a slab foundation? Have a small area between house and driveway it's triangular shaped no gutter water draining in area, it's red clay soil in Oklahoma city , our trash cans are stored in this area... just wondering if its ok to put down some pea gravel have 7 bags of this stuff no grass just some ground cover weed and bare soil.

    • @GCFD
      @GCFD  3 года назад +2

      Yea I don't see a problem with the pea gravel as decorative. I avoid gravel against the foundation with a crawl or basement as water falls through gravel.

      Awww thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. I enjoy watching your videos. Sometimes wished it would go in fast mode when showing the work being done. But really not a big deal bc you do voice over. I know it takes time to do these videos with very little in return for your time and money for equipment and software.
