Mary & George is an audacious historical psychodrama starring Academy Award-winner Julianne Moore (Still Alice) and Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue), about a treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of King James I. Pleased he says England and not Britain. Although James was King of Scots from 1567 and then 36 years later King of England from 1603 when the Union of the Crowns took place, Scotland remained a separate sovereign country. The a Union of the Parliaments did not take place for another 100 years, until 1707. So Villiers had no role in Scotland and no power there.

I think the real breath snatcher is going to be seeing the two of them together and striking sparks off each other. Julianne Moore has done an interview where she says how much she likes and admires him, and it shows in their performances together. This is going to be monumental. Awards, please, for cast and creatives.
She will bring delicious to this role and elevate Nicholas in the scenes they have together.

@raspberryquartz6186 if you go back to the original blurb from Starz connected to the release of the trailer, you can get into all the info about the real life Villiers family, their rapid promotion, George's affair with James VI/I and the real houses of the period where the series was filmed, most open to the public. It is much more fun to look it up for yourself, I promise! Although this is a true story, you may then be interested in looking up Elizabethan and Jacobean revenge tragedies as a topic, and discover that the true voice of the period is exactly as portrayed in Mary And George. Here in the UK it is also intriguing that the teasers for Mary and George between other programmes are quietly including more clips of Nicholas Galitzine being inserted into the promos we have already seen, which seems to indicate that the producers are more than pleased with the nuance of his performance here, and are quietly promoting his work. Especially interesting as the lead director approached his agent and specifically asked for him for the role of George Villiers.
This is actually what I was waiting for. The days of replaying the teaser are finally over!

Its iconic how George ( Duke of Buckingham) was mentioned in Red white & royal blue (book, conversation between Henry & Alex with the famous poem) as the lover of King James de 1st and here Nicholas (Henry) playing the same role as George (later Duke of Buckingham ) its actually in the book , i dnt remember whether it was mentioned in the movie

not so strange, George Villiers is the only royal love survive well to his lover's death, he had power when James was alive, he had too much when power with Charles, but he was so dumb that he did everything wrong and when he was murdred no one excpet his wife and his king mourned for him

For what it’s worth, Julianne Moore’s mother was Scottish and Julie Anne (real name) holds British citizenship. So technically, although she’s not English, she isn’t American playing British. She has typical Scottish looks with her pale skin and red hair and with her slender frame these perfectly suit this period. I don’t know if she looks anything like the historical character but she does look right for the period. James VI and I is well cast, he looks like the portraits. This is important to me that a historical drama evokes the period and the real characters. And if these clips are anything to go by, it’s a good script with cracking dialogue.

"If I were a man, and I looked like you, I'd rule the fucking planet." The best line ever spoken. The series was perfect from start to end. The caste, the acting, the story telling, the perfect use of illicit scenes, everything was done so well. And I absolutely love how the history of George and James which is always told from the perspective of the men was broken down and portrayed from Mary's perspective. The only version of the story that highlights Mary and she's not a background character.

I never realized the scribe of the holy Bible (the King James version) was this King James-the 1st of England and King James VI of Scotland, he had such a sad and lonely soul.
His Bible's my preferred 'go to' canon, he translated it from Latin into English beautifully.

I’m not quite sure what this is about but I’m loving what I’m seeing.
It's based upon the history of King James in the 16th century and the Villiers who used King James to climb the ladder of British society and Mary Villiers pimping out her son to seduce the King and ensure both of them achieved wealth and power and prestige through the King.
