I've had mine for a few weeks. I found it works best with a 3/8" 24 telescopic whip on top of the extension. No tools needed to change bands at all. The "stingers will be saved for another project or as a back up in case I break 3 telescopic whips! LOL!

Hey Walt, thanks for the interesting review. I almost bought this antenna when I received a notice of a special offer running on it, but gave up.. I already own an Outback 2000 that seens rather similar (except it's shorter maybe?) and I don't use it much anymore. It worked OK-ish on 20m and higher freq bands but not that well on anything below this, especially on 40m where its bandwidth is so narrow that I constantly have to adjust it. Not quite usable IMO.
I eventually went with a set of mono-band antennas, and my Diamond HF-xxCL are great performers.

    Hello,
A very good cheap antenna will be made from an alloy of nickel and copper,if you 62-65% by weight of nickel is brought to a boil by induction current, and then 38-35% of copper is added to the boiling mass of nickel and immediately reduces the boiling point of nickel to the boiling point of copper, and when you get a homogeneous mass, then cool it - you will get a good alloy for the antenna and for wires - doesn't make noise and doesn't rust.
If you use an antenna made of such a heat-resistant alloy, then you can transmit a very clean signal over very long distances with a low transmitter power.
To do this, you need to heat such an antenna with an additional power source connected to the heating element of the antenna so that the antenna for transmitting signals is well heated.
Radio waves are electrons that, when hot, increase their speed and therefore travel much further in one second than with a cold transmitting antenna.
When electrons (radio waves) become hot, they acquire the properties of both electrons and, at the same time, heat waves.
That is, hot radio waves are both electrons and thermal waves, which have wavelengths from several nanometers to hundreds of billions of kilometers, depending on the state of hot temperature to which they are heated.
Therefore, hot radio waves can easily and freely pass through concrete high-rise buildings and through granite mountains.
If hot transmitting antennas made of such heat-resistant alloy are used in television and FM radio, the transmission of images and sound will be very clear over long distances.
If you use hot antennas made of such a heat-resistant alloy in radio sports, then it will be almost impossible to determine where the signal is coming from, because the sound becomes very, very clear throughout the entire area of a very large city.
    Germanium-based ultra-high conductivity semiconductor:
We bring tantalum to a boil (28 - 30%), reduce the boiling point of tantalum to the boiling point of lead and add lead (3 - 5%), then slightly reduce the boiling point of this mass to the boiling point of germanium and add germanium (the remaining percentage is 65 - 69%). When the resulting alloy becomes homogeneous, then upon cooling it we obtain a semiconductor based on germanium with ultra-high conductivity.
Adding thallium 1% or bismuth 1% gives p- and n- conductivity.

Another informative video Walt. Nicely done! It is interesting when one has been a ham for 62 years like myself you get to see things reinvented and repeated over and over. This antenna is essentially a Chinese knockoff of the Australian Terlin Outback and Outreach antennas popular in the 1990s. While interesting as a concept I find it hard to justify its use when there are better and much more efficient, cost effective AND easier to set up alternatives such as the collapsible 17 foot whip (ie the MFJ-1979 and Chameleon’s similar offering) which is simply pulled out to a quarter wave of the desired frequency (marked with indelible marker for quick deployment) and collapsed to 27 inches when done - no muss no fuss. 20 meters to 2 meters for about $75 plus price of the mount of your choice and coax. Simple! Why use something else that costs more with higher Q and higher prices. JMHO… but then that’s just me I guess. Again a nice video, informative and well presented Walt. Best 73s… Dan K1YPB - On the air since 1962.

    Hello,
Please try to make an antenna from a piece of wire 2 meters long. The antenna wire that connects to the transceiver or radio receiver, please connect a variable resistor R = 100 Ohm, and at the other end of the wire of this 2 meter antenna make a connector to which you need connect resistors for each frequency range.
The resonant frequency is the purely active ohmic resistance of the antenna. When we lengthen the cable to tune the frequency, we increase the active ohmic resistance of the cable. When we shorten the antenna cable, we reduce the resistance of our antenna cable.
A variable resistor is needed for precise adjustment to the resonant frequency of the selected frequency range.
It is better to take tantalum resistors. A very good cheap antenna will be made from an alloy of nickel and copper, if 62-65% by weight of nickel is brought to a boil by induction current, and then 38-35% of copper is added to the boiling mass of nickel and immediately reduces the boiling point of nickel to the boiling point of copper, and when you get a homogeneous mass, then cool it - you will get a good alloy for the antenna and for wires - doesn't make noise and doesn't rust.
We bring tantalum to a boil (28 - 30%),reduce the boiling point of tantalum to the boiling point of lead and add lead (3 - 5%),then slightly reduce the boiling point of this mass to the boiling point of germanium and add germanium (the remaining percentage is 65 - 69%).When the resulting alloy becomes homogeneous, upon cooling it we obtain a germanium-based semiconductor with ultra-high conductivity.
