Genuine RS had round headlights , six dial dash including rev counter, ,double skin inner wings to aid body strength for front struts. The engine was slightly canted to one side to allow modifications. Believe this is standard bread a butter shell up rated to look etc
Hi all, many have comments about the little car here I bought, I knew it,s not an original, but does look well and I did not pay anything like orginal money for it. What I tell you, is its a Austrailian car, originally a 1.3 auto, it was stripped and built in Austialia, so its an odd mix of stuff. The body is amazing, not any evidence of rust ever, interior is clean, and engine sounds well. I am thinking on adding the 6 pot dash and the right speedo. Does need bigger spots on the front, seats are fine, might add twin 40,s and a cam to pepp it up a bit, but my intention is to drive this car, almost daily driver. If anyone has any bits they believe would improve, let me know.
The R S. Mexico and twin cam. All had the type 49. Strengthened body shell. Crayford also made some 3 litre conversion escorts. And so did a company called super speed
This looks like a mark 1 1100 / 1300 super body shell that has been fitted with 2 litre engine and just badged up. All the gt / Mexico’s and rs moles had rev counters and a further 4 smaller instruments. Unless the vin number plate is off a genuine RS this one isn’t,. Still a good car though - would Ned a uk speedo though. Rob the taff
Great channel guys, wish you allowed comments on more of your videos as the recent XR2 and Corolla GT deserved a couple of words. Great little motors in mint condition
Can anyone tell me why the Mexico and the RS2000 had round headlights whilst the Twin Cam had rectangular ones? Did they not use the Type 49 shell on the Twin Cam? Just curious.
It would normally have a rev counter at least, but I have a South African Alfa Romeo, and it's very different to European specification. Rust free though...
There’s no such thing as a South African mk1 rs2000 You show me any proof of them over there and I’ll give you mine . Your problem is you think you know it all but a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and in yours that’s stretching it
Nice Mk 1, reading some of these comments this is the reason I don`t take my car to anymore shows, to many nit pickers/anoraks/experts, you know what it is so take it for what you see it as.
I am not an expert in this model car, however from the comments it is not original. However it is well presented for a clone.Hopefully affordable for someone who can not afford the original.
Aussie Car - the shells have all the Type 49 strengthening but no trap bars. They all had square headlamps. The giveaway is the unique dash locally sourced. It may have a Borg Warner axle - they are a bit weak....
@@paulwilliams5347 Good shells and normally rot free - I have an Aussie Jan 75 build in the garage. They don't normally come with a rear roll bar or tramp bars. Tramp bars would be a good upgrade. If it has got the Borg Warner axle best change it for an English. Change the front struts to RS/Capri type if not done already - they have got bigger bearings and you can fit M16 Calipers/Vented discs, Twin Cam roll bar and double width brackets will sharpen it up handling wise...
It's badged as an RS2000. But stripes as a Mexico. Needs a six clock dash RS seats big rally lamps. Good start for an RS replica though. Paint looks good.
Defo not RS2000. Lots of differences as pointed out by other comments. Mexico style stripe. Alley cat style wheels ? Overiders on rear bumpers. Tidy though.
It's definitely not an RS2000 or a Mexico. The side stripes are very similar to the ones on a Mexico but without the 'Mexico' script on the side, which are also much too narrow for an RS2000 side stripes. Also it doesn't have a 6 clock dash, plus it has oblong headlamps instead of round ones Just because it says Rs2000 on the bootlid doesn't mean it is. This is undoubtedly someones idea when it was built of their dream escort. If I brought this I'd keep the oblong headlamps, fit the 6 clock dash and have it resprayed old English white, with a satin black bonnet and with a Cosworth head fitted on the pinto, Instead of the lotus twin cam (due to cost!!) as per fitted to escort twin cams.
Nothing even close about this car being a correct “RS2000” or “Mexico” as it has been suggested as. Genuine cars have circle headlights, no bip spoilers, 1600 or 2000 engines depending on model, stripe is incorrect for both Mexico and RS2000, the colour of this car appears to be electric monza blue, which as far as I know is only a Mexico colour not RS200, it would need to have mk1 Capri struts and calipers up front with 9” drums in the back, battery in the boot depending on year of production, 6 dial dash with 140mph and 8000rpm if made before 1973 otherwise it would be 130mph and 7000rpm, there is no washer bottle, mirrors are incorrect, it would also have to be a ‘type 49’ shell if it was indeed an AVO car, which means strengthening plates on strut tops, and inner wings, and many other places, would need AVO front guards which have larger flares than standard, if it is trying to be a Mexico then it would also require a chrome strip on both rain-drip channels, the correct door cards and seats, correct gearbox mostly being a ‘bullet box’. This is so far off being either of these two models you could ‘t get further off if you tried. Its a tidy wee car but, is definitely not a RS2000 or a Mexico which the Stripe and Colour suggests.
I had a Pinto in a Capri, it used to clog the oil feed pipe to the OHC, rings were cheese in 50K miles, and smoked like a wet blanket on a fire. The best? Probably one of the worst 4 cylinder engines IMO.
@@W42PZ Agree that the oil pipe feed to the cams was an issue and my first cortina pinto I had to replace the cam and followers. Also had a capri which I put a weber on and that was outstanding. What I didnt mention was that the Pinto did need regular oil changes or the rings would gum up if you only pottered around. They liked to be driven hard and were very very strong units in that area.Loved motorways and fast A roads. So considering how easy they were to work on and mod. I maintain as many will still the best 4 potter ever made. Thanks for your comment though.
my first car aged 17 in 1988 was a red mk2 rs2000 reg bpu504t before i got it a dodgy young bloke with a blue mk1 rs2000 tried to sell me that ir was a right dog
No way is that a mk1 RS 2000, rubbish. Head lights should be round, no 2000 badges on each wing, wrong back bumper, should have 6 clocks on the dash, window rubbers should have chrome inserts, wrong steering wheel. Why put Mexico stripes on it? Needs crushing.

👍
Spot on...this is not an original RS...1.1 or 1.3 maybe...looks nice..
Seats are wrong as are the front head lights ect..
It’s all wrong. Doesn’t even look like an early XL. Complete parts bin rebuild. Why go to all this trouble and not fit a six dial dash?
Not being sold as an RS just has a rs badge on it
The 1300 GT and the 1300E also had the 6 clock dash

I have my doubts about it being an RS as they had the 6 clock dash, likely to be a 1100 or 1300 shell with a pinto fitted
id say same ,, strutt tops look added on
It's definitely not. It's probably still on drum brakes too. Oh well, some mug probably bought it for an extortionate amount.
yup
I am no expert but if it was a South African release could it not have been an RS but with some differences from the UK models?
The R S. Mexico and twin cam. All had the type 49. Strengthened body shell. Crayford also made some 3 litre conversion escorts. And so did a company called super speed
Very clean example, even if it’s not a genuine RS originally.

Mexico striping rather than RS2000. Are not food cans normally Aluminium?

Nice looking motor great body shell and paint even if it is a re creation of the RS 2000
It isn’t a recreation of the RS2000! There’s nothing on it to even suggest this !
Should a Mexico not have a six pod dash?
It would normally have a rev counter at least, but I have a South African Alfa Romeo, and it's very different to European specification. Rust free though...
Not even a rev counter 🤔
@@howardlake6178 hasn't even confirmed if it's a genuine rs?
yes and black head lining
My mom had an orange Mexico back when. I drooled over these as a kid. I don't think it's an RS or even a Mexico.
Hmm. its got a 2l Pinto but its doesnt look like a mk1 RS 2000. wrong interior, headlights, rear bumper and the dash board is defo not a rs2000 dash.

Don't read comment then?. There views ok. Mr private school teacher
Passengers door is a bad fit. It's flares out at the bottom. Just thought I'd mention that.
Are you the Internet spelling teacher 🙄
The doors fine , it’s the body shell that’s bent 🤔
What would a replica RS2000 be worth in this condition.. it does look very nice no matter what it started life as : ) £25K + ?

the main issue is if it were exported to SA , it would still have the AVO chassis plate under the bonnet. No way is this a genuine car .
Didn't the rs have round head lights. Clocks don't match. But maybe because it's a South African car. Say it's a none rs. Could be a 1,3 model.
not genuine??? Square headlamps !! wrong dashboard

As long as a South African car has been inland, the climate in some areas is 3 times better than California 😳
Aussie car
You wouldn't find one like that in the UK anymore
A lot of ford lads says not a rs or mexico total agree 1100/1300
Not a fan of South African fords other than having good shells.possibly an XL?

Not even a GT, no six clock dash.
Theonly thing thats rs is the badges on the boot and wings but stil a nice car
It's so wrong intreior wheels everything wrong...but what a shell if its that clean
Obviously not genuine, lovely solid car for the right money wouldn't mind it myself 😀

My 1300e had the 6 dial dash so yes, I'd agree, it's unlikely to be a genuine RS
It seems the 1300 sport and your e also got the 6 dial dash.
. . Obviously its not an RS,but who cares . . . These saucy FORD's just make a mint anyway . . Nice looking though , . 😆😆😆
Nice clean shell but definitely not a real RS. South African hybrid with a pinto engine. It’s an early model with the rectangular headlamps.
