Ever since 1998, Halloweentown has become a staple for Halloween festivities on Disney Channel. Having been born in 1998 I have never known a world without Halloweentown. I loved its tales of good vs evil, magic, monsters and the Cromwell witches. The Cromwell witches are remembered to be some of the most powerful magic users the world has ever seen and there legacy only continues to grow with every Halloween, but how did they gain such a respected reputation? What makes the Cromwell's so amazing?

The original Halloweentown. I was disappointed in Return to Halloweentown when they replaced Kimberly J Brown. And what makes it worse is that she was never asked. And she is the one who still goes to conventions and talks about the movie.

rawrbro69 Disney is known for not paying their actors fairly. Miley Cyrus of all people the face of the DisneyChannel back in 2006-2011 even spoke up about it. She said Disney took advantage of her talent. They capitalized on not just Hannah Montana but the Miley Cyrus name & they pocketed more than she was suppose to fairly receive. Mind you yeah she’s still rich regardless but she should have been 100x richer if it hadn’t been for their sleazy contracts.
I think what really went down is that Kimberly J. Brown was wanting to negotiate a better contract (better pay) but Disney wasn’t having it and they opted to recasted her role & they just moved on.. that’s Hollywood for you. The whole money aspect is uncomfortable to talk about because essentially you’re bashing your employers (Disney) and I think Kimberly is just politely leaving out details for their sake & you know... in case they ever do another movie. She’s been vocal about 100% wanting to come back if there was another and she doesn’t wanna ruin it by speaking too much about what happened
I really want to see Disney channel make Halloweentown movies that focus on Gwen. I want to see her adventures and what led to her decision to stay in the mortal world. I'd love to see why she came to hate magic. What happened to her husband?

Yeah they did a back story on pretty much everyone else, i mean you learn a little of her past but are left mostly in the dark about it. So a movie, like a prequel to the first Halloween town about Gwen leading up to it would be awesome.
I agree and also I think a prequel on Agatha would be great, maybe a adult version since we're all adults now
I'd love to know how old Gwen is....if Agatha is over 1000 years old, when did she have Gwen??? And who is her father ?
I think she decided to stay in the mortal world because she fell in love with the children's father, atleast its kind of alluded to in the first movie, when Marnie says that "Mom and Dad met on Halloween", which we know is the only time the portal is open.
How's this for a theory? Sophie is the most powerful out of all the Piper children -- moreso than Marnie by a long shot -- and of all the Piper children, she's the most likely one to turn evil. In the first movie, she's the one who figured out how to open the gates when Marnie failed. In the second movie, she's the one sounding the warnings but nobody would listen to her. In the third movie, Marnie is still only at Level 1 spells even though she's been studying magic for 3 or 4 years by then. And in the fourth movie, while the Dominion is hailing Marnie as the future queen, Sophie is getting private tutoring from Aggie Cromwell herself.
So why does Marnie get all the attention? Because she's the oldest? It certainly isn't because she's the most powerful. (Maybe that's why the Dominion decided on Marnie becoming queen -- she's weaker and potentially more easy to control, and being the oldest means the Dominion doesn't have to wait much longer to take over.)
Anyway, all those years of getting ignored and overlooked can easily make a person resentful -- and with access to some of the most powerful spells and amulets in the world, Sophie could become dangerous too. That would make for one heck of a fifth Halloweentown movie, where Sophie is revealed as the bad guy and the family has to reconcile.

Actually it's been made obvious that Marnie is the most powerful of the Piper children.
1. Sophie just seemed more powerful because children, who are known for little to no impulse control, is better at wishing for things and letting herself have them, which is what magic is all about.
2. She was sounding the alarms because Cal specifically planned around Marnie (himself) and Gwen (the frog-golem dad), and Ethan was about as mortal as any warlock could possibly get.
3. In the third movie, Marnie is juggling magic, mortal life, and mortal school; also, we have zero idea how long it actually took to get Gwen to completely dissolve her resistance towards magic, which would be a big hindrance to Marnie's studies.
4. Finally, in the fourth, Sophie's getting personal tutoring, still, because she's the ONLY ONE LEFT, and by that time, it seems that Gwen would be perfectly OK with one of her children deciding to do magic full-time.

I honestly say that a change in actor, especially since she is the main character of the series, and is the ONLY one to be replaced, was very jarring at first. but after a while, it just blurred for me.

The whole immortal thing makes me wonder though. Because Aggie and Gwen are full blooded witches but Gwen's kids are only half because their dad was human. So does that mean Gwen will out-live her kids? Because even if they have a longer life span than a normal human because of the immortal thing, they'll never actually live as long as a full blooded immortal. Which is really sad the more I think about it.

It could go either way, in my opinion. They could be immortal or just age very slowly and eventually die.
@Taylor Romano And why do you assume it's their bloodline that grants them immortality. How do you know it's not their magic? I mean the Cromwell Magic has been known to perform miracles. And, I believe, Aggie stated in one of the movies that the three grandkids together have more powerful magic then even she does. Since they have the whole Charmed Power of 3 thing going, it could that as long as they are together, they will remain immortal because their combined magic will make it so.
I think it's likely the magic that grants them long lasting lives. I'm not entirely sure they're immortal because where are Aggie's parents and Gwen's dad? There are so many unanswered questions in regards to the series.
I always thought that the grandma was "immortal" because she lives in Halloween Town...not because she's a witch. Thus her daughter and grandchildren would age somewhat (if not completely) normally in the human world. Aggie mentions in the first Halloween Town movie that time works differently in the two realms. I.e. in the mortal realm, time goes by much faster. It's possible that her magic aids to her longevity, but I would argue that it's not nearly as much of a factor as people seem to think. Does that make sense? Or am I missing something.

It was never really explained in depth on what exactly is Coventry besides just an alternative dimension with a kingdom. And how did Thantos keep their father in the shadowlands for so long despite draining his powers?

Totally although personally I love the book series a lot better, but yeah your right, they didn't exactly explain things on Coventry or the fact that their father was trapped in the shadowlands because I think in the book series it was mentioned that their father had died.

I was wondering why Gwen is opposed to using magic and why she insists on having a normal life...obviously it stems from her grief over her husband passing. Aggie even says in the first film "you know dear, now that William has passed on, there's nothing to hold you here" and even wonders why Gwen insists on doing things "the hard way". Aggie doesn't seem to have any strong "anti-human" views so this seems like an odd thing to say. Gwen herself seems abandon her anti-magic rule midway through the series saying "remind me again why I don't like to use magic?" Maybe she admired William for getting things done even without magic and that was her way of keeping his memory alive. But somewhere along the way, maybe she figured William wouldn't want her to sacrifice a part of who she was to so. I mean, they met at a Halloween party and he liked her "costume" (Aggie brings that up in the first film) so he doesn't sound like the type of human to shun magic, whether he knew Gwen was a witch or not.

It's my least favorite out of the entire series. I'm just not a huge fan of Sara in the role. It was unnecessary to recast, and they didn't even ask Kimberly which is disrespectful as she originated the character. I just sort of found Sara's take on Marnie eh. It only explains bits about the grandma in all honesty.

Oh man these movies still hold a special place in my heart, i love magic. I feel like i can relate to many things in the movie and i wish i could cast spells too lol. I was so surprised that Dylan turned out to be a witch at the end of the first movie because you know, most of the time it is the girl who gets that power in movies like these, too bad he didn't use magic much but he did use it to help when necessary.

Hey Issac, do you know that St. Helens Oregon, the town the first movie was filmed in, recreates Halloween town (Pumpkin included) every year? You can tour all over, see the filming locations, and watch a special lighting ceremony where the actual actress for Marnie lights the pumpkin?

Hello! This a great video. And the timing is perfect because I just showed the original Halloweentown to my Grandma recently! I'm in the process of showing her all of the older DCOMs (late 1990s-2000s) I can find. The Twitches movies are coming on Disney Channel soon so I'll definitely show her those this year. I was also born in 1998 and my birthday is extremely close to Debbie's (RIP), so I have a deep connection to the Halloweentown movies as well.

Awesome , truly great video, I've been watching the Halloweentown movies for years every Halloween since I was a kid and now as a young man in my early 20s I love the Halloweentown movies now more than ever ( Also the first Halloweentown is my favorite )
Thank you so very much to do a video on Halloween town!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is my top favorite Halloween movies yet. I personally love all of the Halloween town movies. I wish I was in those movies myself. I'll be William Cromwell a son of Patrick Cromwell, the son of grandmother Cromwell, and a brother of Quinn Cromwell-Piper. The nephew, and cousin to the piper family, and am picked to be next Cromwell line head. I especially love return of Halloween town, when I'll be in college at witch university, and doing private study of the Cromwell family/witch covenant while Marty is undergoing regular college classes, and I'll help her to bring justice to Halloween town.

I would love to see a video on Gwen Piper. I always wondered why she chose to leave Halloween and live life as a mortal. I think she was alot like Marnie when she was young. I think maybe she got a little to heavily involved with dark magic and it scared her. I think there is some trauma in her.
Also I feel like I should say I love Halloween town I try and watch it every year on Halloween or whenever I see Disney has it on it's probably my favorite live action Disney movie and I'm glade you talked about it no one ever seems to anymore but I would call myself a fan of it!

I really loved the first and 2nd Halloween town. I love them all! But the 1st and 2nd are my favorite. Now the only thing that confuses me and maybe you can discuss this in another video if you want, as to why they used Sarah Paxton as marnie piper in the last video instead of Kimberly J. Brown? No disrespect to Sarah Paxton but I think they should of had Kimberly J Brown in the last Halloween town film

Halloweentown is my favorite in the series, too. Aggie was like a magic fairy godmother in that movie. I love the cute, not-so-scary side of Halloween, so a town full of good witches and nice monsters seemed so magical to me. The other Halloweentown movies just weren’t quite as fun or interesting to me.
All the Halloweentown films I love even the last one,because I wonder what happened after Marnies brother Dillian put the Gift in a book.I wish there would of been another movie except Debbie Reynolds would have been in it more compare to Return to Halloweentown. I started questioning how old Aggie really was
when i decided to re-watch halloweentown high the other day and i heard Aggie say:
"oh now the Renaissance i remember it fondly"

Trolls, vampires, werewolves, ghosts...they all have roots in myth and literature. Some of the residents of Halloweentown, particularly the more whimsical ones ( I'm looking at you Pumpkin Heads and people in the first film dressed as pirates or in period related costume) either are not particularly supernatural or lack the real world companion myths of the other monsters. Is this because of the Cromwell's? Aggie's spellbooks are the only source of "The Creature" spell. Aggie herself might not be responsible, but there is a compelling case to be made that a Cromwell witch's transformation of some their human ancestors is responsible for the existance of these Halloween Town Citizens.
I love the Halloween town movies. Iv seen them all several times. My favourite is probably the last. But I love them all. I wish there were more.
