This was my signature scent when I was 17. I found it on a blog and I was “hypnotized”everyone associated it with me. I stopped wearing about 5 years later after an unfortunate relationship, because the scent makes me revisit it, i miss it so much. I’m curious to ell the new reformulations.

It’s still gorgeous but having owned many older bottles of Hypnotic Poison throughout the years (at least five), I can confirm that newer batches are less dense and less thick. The scent is still recognisable though. I’m using my last drops of a 2017 bottle (dark red, the one you have) and it’s is still amazing. The newest formula not so much.

Give it some time, sometimes they need to sit for a longer time, they get better with age :) I know what you mean totally agree that they change the formulation but you never know..in a few years time

Yes Lucinda I think the newer formula isn't as good, however I still love it. ❤️

I think I'm happy with the one I've hot but I won't be purchasing the current formulation especially if its been butchered 😟
LOVE IT! It’s soooo cozy and rich and decadent. I feel so good wearing it. I have the 2008 version. I don’t ever want to be without this fragrance. Holds a special place in my heart. Just like Angel 😇. You have a great nose! Thank you for sharing 💞 Now I’m off to smell the cap of my bottle 😂

I’ve worn this for 15+ years. One spray used to last all day. Now, I spray 4 times at least and I barely get whiffs here and there. I’ll always have a bottle though. I can’t stop loving it♥️

@@thefragrantician I'm getting vanilla, coconut, licorice and slightly smoky powder. The edp has a Coumarin note I detect more so than the edt. So glad I finally have them in my collection. I didn't have any poisons except for a tiny bottle of the original espirit de parfum, which is the bomb dignity! I just checked they were both made in 2013.
Its so funny because ive been through so many perfumes and im very picky.. i have a sensitive nose but also get bored quickly with scents. Most of the time i cant go to sleep without washing it off because it overwhelms me. THIS is the first perfume ive found that i can wear throughout the day and even to bed without feeling nauseous. It does fade quickly, but i noticed that even though i cant smell it others still do so i guess thats something. Its a very in your bubble type scent it doesnt project far ive noticed. Im curious now what the older batches smelt like because i have nothing to compare it to. But I’ve finally found my signature scent❤ i love it! So unique and different and everyone loves it.

I recently bought two bottles from private sellers on Ebay. One is from 2015 and the others from 2008 in the rubberised bottle with the black cap. I feel like I hit jackpot with the 2008 formula. Barley sprayed. It smells incredible. Even the 2015 version is beautiful. It takes me back to my high school close to 25 years so. Designer perfumes were at it's peak then.
Sorry I've just seen this. You got a beauty there, even the new version I think is just as good. It's probably in my top 10 of all time
I tried first formula,2014-2015 batch and 2020 batch. I can say the scent is still the same. I think the reason of all complaints about reformulation is not about the scent , its about performance. When i spray 2020 batch , i couldnt smell it after 1 hour. I never understand people who says “hypnotic poison is too strong and heavy, it made my head turn, it made me sick”. Because of that i thought my bottle could be fake 😄. But no, everytime i tried from different bottles it was the same. Then i couldnt stop myself and search for first formula (2001 batch, the bottle with Christian Dior Paris writing). Yep the scent was the same, but it was more intense and performance was better obviously. But still, i wouldnt consider Hypnotic poison as a strong,assertive fragrance. It is for more of a intimate moment fragrance. It is comforting,cozy. Nothing special. Maybe the reason i feel like this, i higher my expectation before trying it and when i try, i diasappointed i dont know😔
It is,a comforting fragrance. I see this,as a worthy signature scent for,some.
I just got it.. one from a newer batch. I can stand it, cause years ago the older batches just made me sick of my stomag. This one is perfect

I have the same version with the gold writing. On me too it is more about vanilla than almond.
I am thinking to purchase the 2020 version for two reasons. First, it will be part of history soon as the last version of hypnotic poison in the François demachy era. The other reason is that i have heard Dacop said that it is so similar in some aspects of it to the original formula.

Go for any formula pre 2021. I think the 2004 to 2008 one is the best. It has bitter but sweetness. Oh well.....the hunt goes on. Its what we do Ange it's what we do lol 😆 😂 ❤️❤️
My mom purchased this fragrance in 1998, and I thought at the time that it was one of the most unique fragrances I had ever encountered. I still feel the same about it. I have a few of the original bottles/formulas. Since discovering Dua’s Hypnotizing Venom, I will purchase that one instead because they really have captured what the original was. It smells pretty much exactly like the 1998 Hypnotic Poison. Now I can save my original bottles for special occasions, and still have the original feeling with the Dua version.

I was so hopeful for the Dua version, since it's supposed to be modeled after the original version, but was terribly disappointed. At first it's very similar, but it dries down into a bitter licorice-like residue. Thanks very much for this review! I consider this an old classic I surely wish they would bring back in the original form.
Yes it's quite bitter. I'm not sure if the OG was quite as bitter and licorice smelling 🤔
@@thefragrantician I started buying the original soon after it came out, and I don't remember the original ever being bitter. It could just be that my memory is old 😁, but that was one of the things I loved about it. I like sweet fragrances and to me, the original at the time was just the right balance. Just enough strength to be lightly noticed, unique from everything else out there, and never pungent or bitter. Such a tragedy! 😓
It's shocking how many times that has been reformulated 😱 I retried this a few weeks ago in a department store and I noticed the bottle change and I just thought maybe it was an EDP Vs EDT thing! I don't know the scent well enough to know if it changed. I should pay more attention 😂 I wonder what's prompted the reformulation? I have no idea whether there would be an ingredient in there that's been slapped with controls. I just think Dior are a bit reformulation slap happy.
Dior like you say are reformulation trigger happy! It's now a silver style logo. Silver??? Really?? That's like having a mansion only to discover it needs renovating lol 😆
Hi Gabi ❤️I think this one is a classic and will ALWAYS be hypnotic IF it's the original formulation of course I've not smelled the newer batch ones but the original will always be a love for many of us tfs 🙏🏼🤗

Hi Gabi! I have the 2017version, and it definitely leans almond, vanilla, with a dolls head note. I wish they would stop reformulating it, the bottle is beautiful I can’t imagine having it see-through and changing the ombré, which is gorgeous. BTW, your display looks stunning!!!🥰💞😇

I recently purchased Initio, High Frequency, it is very similar to Hypnotic Poison, but the longevity is much better. It might be good for layering with Hypnotic Poison, but on its own it’s beautiful. 😘

I used it a lot for many many years, yesterday when I went to the shop and tried it again I was completely disappointed it doesn't resemble at all the original version. I understand the need for reformulation if it's related to raw materials and allergens but this became a completely different perfume, I got coco chanel instead

One of my favorite fragrance ever.
I definitely think it’s a shadow of its former self. I had a bottle back in the day and it was so good, maybe it was in the early 2000’s. I’ve got the bottle with the silver writing and it’s no way as good, I still like it but this version can’t touch how I remember it used to be 😢
Yes I think the one I loved was around 2004 when it was just reformulated for the first time but it was bloody gorgeous with the almond and big dolls head vibe I love thst smell ❤️ this one I have isn't too bad it's sweeter though. I dread to think what the 2021 formula is like. 😟😟
@@thefragrantician the new 2021-2022 ,I think is awful. I bought a bottle recently and it gives me headaches. I would describe it as heavy on the vanilla then goes into a burnt wood smell and there is some Play-Doh kind of smell. It's potent and it really didn't settle into a nice sent for me.

I really like the basenote combos in hypnotic by the way, and yes I agree, the writingd has to be gold! and ugh did they really remove the caraway and the woody notes?

Hiya Gabby, believe it or not I’ve never smelled anything but the OG Poison! I got annoyed when they started coming out with a zillion different versions when the OG smelled so amazing on me but cloying & sickly on others so I moved on (always hopping back to my beloved OG Poison). Btw I’m in Francesca Bianchi heaven… tested 4 so far & it’s going to be hard choosing what’s full bottle worthy! Have a lovely weekend! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️

The original was my go-to for years -- someone almost always complimented it, and my morning spray lasted all day. Every other version -- on me, at least -- has been a total disappointment. The bottle isn't as alluring, it doesn't smell the same at all, and the scent disappears within minutes. I've been looking for a new signature scent ever since.

Try a sample or a bottle from John Lewis I bought 3 bottles from three shops John Lewis was the best, it is different it’s less creamy more sharp and has the same dna

I have the current iteration and I am so disappointed. It is a shadow of its former glory so I keep wondering whether I can layer it some kind of marzipan scent to restore its opulence. If anyone has tried this, do let me know what might help!

Update: hello! I received my vintage 1998 Hypnotic Poison today! and wow I LOVE it! I LOVE it way more than the newer release. The vintage one is more intense, darker, and less sweet, more oriental with a soft touch of sweet, realistic, vanilla tincture. a very well rounded blend with intense depth. you won't pick up much of the sharp/very sweet marzipan vanilla in the vintage one. I mean the vanilla is there but really really well blended, like it's in the background and more of a realistic vanilla flower rather than synthetic gourmand vanilla. I pick up caraway and something like licorice? which make this smells very sensual. then I pick up a mix of floral x fruity notes of apricot, plum, tuberose and muguet at the top, then jasmine and rose, and faint coconut. all these good mixtures are then wrapped with warm musk and woody notes, making it even more sensual 😭I love it! So dark, so intense, very very sensual and bewitching. I don't get the play-dough notes from the vintage one. probably because the vanilla is more realistic. I'm visualizing a lady in a bar, exotic beauty, wearing black dress, very mysterious, unreachable. but once you get to know her, she's sweet! longevity, projection, and sillage: BEAST. it's from 1998 but it doesn't seem like it even degrades? I wonder.... or perhaps it was even stronger back then? I'm getting more 1998 bottle after this. Vintage version of HP suits the name more, a really hypnotizing fragrance. I Love it!
