Shaun, here’s a couple of suggestions for you. Before you sheet the floor of your addition, dig a eight by eight foot hole about six feet deep, line the walls logs with cut on two side to fit tightly together, it will make an excellent root cellar for storing vegetables over winter and also provide you with cool storage for fresh produce. Second one is easy, cut a stick for measuring your post holes, char it in the fire so it will stand out when you need it. Excellent channel, have been watching since first video, and yes, a mill is a necessity! A small hoe would be most versatile as well…..moving/lifting logs, building road/ trails, digging pits/foundations, removing stumps, just an all around game changer, as the saw mill will be! Congrats on your successes so far and a wish to conquer all challenges in the future, if this was easy everybody would do it, you’re the exception remember that when you feel down and want to quit!
    Best Wishes
    Mel From Quesnel

If you char lumber on your camp fire that’s going in the ground it won’t rot as fast. If you decide to build with logs, they make a log peeler attachment for a chainsaw. It can also be used as a rough planer.

Make sure you have a above average first aid kit and know its contents and how to use it, if needed for you or someone else. Always work smart not hard. Always let gravity do some of the work whenever possible.

A bandsaw sawmill could be extremely helpful but the issue may be how to get logs to the sawmill and up onto the mill, for your current situation. A chainsaw mill allows you to go to the biggest of trees and mill up boards that you can move yourself. I’m all about the bandsaw mill because I have a HM126 and it has absolutely changed my life, but I also have the ability to pull my logs with a machine and let gravity load them since I have hills and built the mill lower than the trail. Just food for thought from an experienced off-gridder and mill operator.

I envy you, Shawn. You are doing what I have wanted all my life...to build a cabin in the middle of the wilderness, enjoy the peace and quiet, the darkness at night and to look at the stars! I love how you end each day by showing them and I know the camera doesn't do the justice. You are a very hard working man and I commend your whole attitude of working things out, good or bad. Your Cabin is really coming together so nicely!
When I watch your videos? I'm right there with you. I absolutely LOVE cooking over a campfire! I have a cast iron dutch oven I take camping with me, they are so nice to cook with. Sitting around a campfire at nite, we'll, you can't beat that.
When you were going up the path I thought hmmm, stairs would help alot to get up this hill and then just seconds later...you are building them! 😂
It is hard waiting for the next video, but patience prevails.
Please don't worry about your ramblings, they are nice to listen to, it's how you work things out and it's perfectly normal.
Talk about rambling 😂 I have probably taken up enough of your time, I always end up writing a book for my comments but it's who I am. I wish you the best as always and I will see you on the next video! Please be careful, take care Shawn.

Depending on what hunting seasons are in your area you could really cut your grocery bill. In your pictures you had deer, elk, moose and bears. A deer or a cow elk or calf moose shouldnt be to much for one man. Plus you could share with those who have helped you. For preserving, canning and smoking would work for you or an Elevated cash like Dick Proenneke had at hisTwin lakes cabin in Alaska? Any of these methodd aren't hard or expensive to get into! Winter is just around the corner. If your gona spend winter at your cabin i'd start dedicating some time for making wood! Its not much fun making wood when the snow is deep! Just my opinion! Nice to see you this week Shawn. You’ve got mad building skills my friend. Enjoy the rambling it gives us a view inside your head and your thoughts. Stay safe and good luck on next week’s progress.

Another enjoyable video. The rambling is fine... because you really don' go on and on... you just keep us up on what you are thinking... and that is nice. I hope the outboard engine repair is successful and affordable. Thanks for sharing with us and good luck.

Thanks for another great real video. I wish you had a “neighbor “ who could bring your lumber and supplies to you in exchange for labor or $$ .
I could watch your videos every day.
