Great advise, Paula...and very timely! The temps dropped so fast here it was unbelievable, and i had to adjust quickly! Thanks for the reminders, so helpful! 😇🌸🌺☃️
@OrchidWhisperer Hey Amy 👋 Thanks hon. Yea I'm freezing over here! Been so cold! 🥶 I'm ready for warmer weather all ready! 🤣 Have a wonderful week dear friend 🤗 🌹 🩷 💚
Good Morning Paula, Watching your channel from hardiness zone 10B in sunny South Florida. We've had an awfully hot, humid, three time hurricane season. What a mess for our plants to grow through. Now we've had chill 52° one week to 80° the next. Our plants are really getting beat up. I enjoyed hear what you have to watch out for with change of weather. Keep the good word coming. Respectfully,
@dsiegel22 Hey hon 👋 yea its kind of odd that you guys are getting that cold 🥶 this has been a weird winter for you guys! Hang in there and keep an eye on your plants. ☺️ Thanks for watching! Have a wonderful week 🤗🌹🩷💚
Hi Paula. The only plants I watered today were the Miltoniopsis. Now that it’s cold I water every 9 to 10 days. My humidity is down into the 30’s and that is with 2 humidity tanks up and running. I dragged my humidity trays out and added water to them. I don’t want it so dry that I get spider mites again. I do grow a lot of my orchids in clay pots so they do dry out quicker. Thanks for good advice. Hugs sis. 🥰👏🎀🌸
@shirleyholt898 Hey Miss Shirley 👋 yea its taking them longer to dry out now. So have to be cautious. I do more pour through with the phals. Might soak once every couple months. It takes a lot for moss to dry when it's cooler. Stay warm sis! Have a wonderful week 🤗🌹💚🩷
Hey hon, I'm not sure which one your talking about. Right now I don't have any Hoya in bloom. So it's definitely an orchid. The red one is a Cattleya cernua and the single purple and white phalaenopsis is Jaiho Summer Love. Was it one of them? 😂 have a wonderful week 🤗 🌹 💚 🩷
@@hillbillyorchidsabout 1:20-1:40 there is a vine on the right, and a little yellow flower you are holding, not sure if the flower is from the vine or not. I was thinking to was a hoya but the vine keeps showing for a while, it has a pronounced center and diagonal veins. It is really pretty
Hey hon, the purple and white bloom isn't to the variegated leaves. 😂 2 separate plants. The purple and white bloom is Phalaenopsis Jaiho Summer Love. The variegated leaf phal is Phalaenopsis Bronze Maiden. Hope that helps. 😊Have a wonderful week 🤗 🌹 💚 🩷
@tropicalplantsfinland Hey hon, it has cooled way down. It's been like 70° f (21° c) which is alot cooler than normal. The lows have been 68°f (20°c) sometimes cooler! I don't let it go under 50°f (10°c) Hope you have a wonderful week dear friend 🤗🌹🩷💚
@ oh, is it humid then, that might get them moldy? My current temp is around 70F and my orchids dry faster than yours. :) Now I’m interested what is normal where you live and what is considered hot. Same to you! Have a great week! 😊
@tropicalplantsfinland Hey hon, yes I carry 75%-90% humidity at any given time. Unless I have to crank the heat. So yes that's alot of what takes me time to dry my pots out. I allow my space to get cooler in winter cause many plants require a cool spell to bloom. Hot in my space is 90° f it's like a sauna! Especially when humidity is 85% with 90°f. So huge difference between summer and winter even though I grow indoors. 😁
Do you not soak your Phals this time of year? Mine used to dry down in 7 days like clockwork. Now, its taking 10 days. I just did a 10 min soak, should I not soak anymore this winter? This was a great video about something I would not have considered 😊
@ROlson-dx2jc Hey hon not really. Dryer is a little better. Pour through is better. Maybe a soak on warmer days. Where it's going to be warmer for the next 3 days ahead. Make sense? I do still soak my cattleya a little. But they don't fuss as much as phals do. Hope that helps. ☺️ Have a wonderful week. 🤗🌹🩷💚
What temperature is your water? I am mixing tap water and rainwater, and I am noticing my tap water is getting colder with the weather, so I have to let it warm up to use it. Last year my tap water got down to a 46°!
@tracystrombotne2855 Hey hon, it's always room temperature. I leave my water set 3 days before I use it. I never really test temperature cause it's whatever my room is. Definitely if it's down to 46° you want to wait and let it warm back up. I just went in and tested temperature of my water for you. It's 71° F My room says it's 72° So it's relatively room temperature. Hope that helps. Have a wonderful week 🤗🌹🩷💚
@@hillbillyorchidsthank you! My water seems to get more acid as I let it sit out, so I like to use tap water to neutralize it, but in the winter I have to resort to chemicals.
@tracystrombotne2855 I use PH up and PH down. Mostly PH down. Cause my tap water is extremely alkaline. Like 8.4 or higher. So even after the buffers and stabilizers of Jacks it still needs to be lower. 6.5 is the sweet spot. 😁

Paula, thanks for this winter's reminder. Here in Phoenix, Arizona the air is still dry in my living room in winter ❤❤❤
Hey hon, yep different areas have different humidity and such. You guys I think are always dry, right? Hope you have a wonderful week 🤗🌹💚🩷
Love that bloom at the beginning, is it a hoya? If so, which one? If not, what was it? So pretty!

@tracystrombotne2855 Oh hon that is a hoya. Hoya multiflora. 😊
I thought you were going to discuss what to look for if you receive plants and they are cold, since it is that season.🤣
@michaelmccarthy4077 Hey Michael it is that time of year. Best to not ship plants when it's that cold. 🤣 Have a wonderful week 🤗 🌹 💚 🩷
