    Geely is a super company. The portfolio of brands - Volvo, Zeekr, Lotus, SMART, Proton, Polestar, LTI and Galaxy brands, the only Chinese company to access the North American market!!! Lotus Emeya global debut in NYC last month!

      I think its smart for these Chinese companies to swallow up struggling western car brands. Western consumers have low confidence in the quality of goods from China plus their brand names are very odd to the western consumer. BYD should acquire the "Saturn" brand and sell their vehicles in US under that name.

    Front wheel drive is fine in the ice, snow. The understeering is quite predictable. And usually, you have more traction having the weight (engine) where the driving wheels are. Especially with the older rear wheel drive cars, you were getting stuck in the snow, and the back end stepping out when icy. Modern electronics helps a bit. May be a totally differant game for electric. You have a lot of weight low, and an enormous amount of control over the traction.

      I've owned only front wheel drive or all wheel drive cars and I barely notice a difference between the two configurations in snow and ice. Rear wheel drive ICE vehicles I've driven for work are bad in snow and I would be concerned about owning one where I live. I've heard from early adopters who got the BMW I3 and Tesla Model S RWD that the even weight distribution of the battery made a big difference in snow/ice performance. With 25 years of driving experience I'm sticking with front or all wheel drive, though I prefer front wheel drive because its more efficient.

      Very little snow in Aus, apart from the high country in winter. Personally, from experience, I like AWD, It's great in the wet and on dirt roads.

    • @Tom-ef9yp
      @Tom-ef9yp 10 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I just mean you cannot really argue that front wheel drive with an engine in front is inferior in grip to a rear wheel drive in any general sense at least. Front wheel drive is quite safe, boring and cheap to make. Thus theres a lot of them. @@peterinns5136

    I live in Canada, and fwd is so much better in winter (with an ice). Maybe 4wd, with a power-limiter on the front wheels, could be an answer for the high torque of electric motors. I don't know if you guys get much snow in AU, but in Canada, with a rwd, if there is snow on the ground, you turn your wheels and the car might just push forward anyways, not caring that the wheels are turned. With fwd, you don't have that problem. It's also much easier to get out of parking spots in the winter.

    I expect Rivian to reveal a teaser minivan/work van Late 2024 or early 2025 as their Georgia factory nears production condition. Rivian is going to reveal their R2 smaller chassis next year and I think they will suprise everyone and also reveal a shrunken version of their Amazon delivery van and marketed to the minivan crowd and the work van market.

    Amazing car yummie mummies from Sydneys north shore will buying these up. The big problem with larger SUV's is to get in and out of the 3rd row and the legroom is always rubbish. 3rd row for vans like the Taragos were always good.
    What generation of Taragos were front wheel drive? The 90s versions were RWD, with the same wheel stud parent as a 200sx S15. I would see so many of them with S15 wheels and P plates on them hooning around in the late 90s and early 2000s
    If it gets 600kms per charge for a van i think it is the sweet spot. In the low $100,000s it will sell well lets say $135k drive away.

    can't wait to see the Volvo van... really interesting. But as for the range... it seems to be too optimistic... The average consumption of EQV is about 30-35 kW ... if Volvo does this, we can talk about a maximum real range of 470-500 km... it's better than all other minivans but still not so good for a big family van…

    • @jonathanfields4ever
      @jonathanfields4ever 10 месяцев назад

      Why? Obviously charging is slower than filling up, but my in-laws have a Toyota hybrid minivan and it gets about 500km of range on a full tank. In the winter and summer it can be as bad as 350 or 400.

    • @maxs3153

      @@jonathanfields4ever hybrid is absolutely another thing… my point is that big family car presume long journey (at least from time to time). And with current average consumption of 30-40kwt/100km full range is abt 400-450( km 140kwt battery with net capacity of abt 120kwt) . But if we take into consideration recommended usage of the battery 20-80% we’ll get 270km of range max…it is ok for small country…but still too faraway from ICE range abilities.

    With Kid #4 coming and having gotten used to the speed, power and ease of use of my Tesla MY, I am so very much looking for a car that can carry 6 without being a large bus with no performance, speed, range or all the other things we have got accustomed.
    I mean the choices that are available for a family of 6 are a JOKE right now: the Mercedes EQV doesn’t have a steering assistant. In 2023. I mean… no. Just NO. Not even talking about the laughable range and the dull GUI of the 90s…
    Literally my only option right now is the model X - just that it’s so very expensive.
    So I appreciate very much if there’s a bit competition, eben though I hatte the look of this Volvo: why do so many makers think it’s cool to drive something that looks like the front is cut with a knife?!?
    But again: more cars for 6 people! Please!
