I do not agree Hattie. Sjoukje Dijkstra already had European and World medals and an Olympic medal when Laurie Owen made it to her first major championship.(the 1960 Winter Olympics.) Sjoukje had better figures and stronger jumps than Owen . Although Laurance was much more artistic than Sjoukje, I do not believe she would have placed above her if she had lived. We shall never know however due to the unfortunate deaths of the 1961 US world figure skating team.

She won coz Laurence Owen had died in the plane crash in Belgium.There are hardly any figure skaters in Holland,they're speed skaters.
