I consider disarming to be a high level skill. In fact, I believe disarming to be lower on the list of important skills one needs to learn. Nonetheless, it is a part of the Filipino Martial Arts and these are the 2 disarms I prefer to teach first. We had a good time making this video. There are words I forgot to say... there are certain shots we could have done a little better... there are certain tactical options we purposely left out... But overall, I am quite pleased with the overall outcome. I hope you find value in this video. Enjoy.

Thanks. Funny enough this is until now the best techincal disarm I know with two sticks against a single. In all others the single can grab one of my sticks to easy in my experience.

Still nice. I was reluctant to write it last time. Hands against single knife the position is a drag on the arm straight down, shoulder to biceps if one want's to do it in free sparring. And you have to keep his hand in place there. But the few reading comments deserve to know.

Not if you land a strong punch to the face. If your punch successfully lands, their knife wielding hand will temporarily float. This allows the opportunity to violently grab and strip or return the weapon to sender. If you spar but do not strongly punch the face, then you'll have to perform the technique as you explained - sliding down the arm to get position. In my own research, I've found this to be quite difficult to do without landing at least 1 or 2 strikes. But I do understand what you are saying. It's definitely an unpleasant and dangerous practice to land such a strike on your partner while sparring. Therefore, I understand why some teachers teach this technique differently. ...and of course, there are more ways still available. This video definitely did not show everything. Thank you for commenting.

@@DaytonKaliAcademy Thank you for your long answer. My main reason for my sparring habbit is, that I can't punch every real adversary hard enough ... . And like trying defanging the snake via glancing cuts knife to knife - I don't want to find out if it works on a throat thrust. So I try to cling with my blade, till the other one "removes" his arm. Another truth outside the pattern to me.

@@kenkongermany7860 Thanks for the clarification. I definitely agree. Truthfully, for this particular video, I wish I had not included the knife work. I feel this way because I chose not to show the true skill of a trained knife practitioner against an empty-handed defender on a free public video. But by doing so, it takes away from the authenticity of the Art. I am happy with my talking intro though, and that kind of makes up for what I chose not to show. As an instructor, I feel you have to have morality in transmission of the Art.

That's what I thought. Therefore my own reluctance. Sadly, even in real life FMA I met quite a lot "teaching by mistake" instructors. I worked my way through that in more then one martial art. So it's just a hint to comment readers to do that.

Excellent presentation. Interesting how you separate the "defanging the snake" and "percussive" disarms, which I like; I usually present them together and call them "direct disarms."

Thank you Alvin 🙏. You're definitely right about those two concepts being strongly related. 'Direct disarms' is a good categorization 👍

Thank you for your comment. I hear what you are saying, I just don't understand why you are saying it - considering that I clearly stated in the intro of the video and also wrote in the description: "...disarming is lower on the list of important skills one needs to learn. In fact, when it comes to disarming, probably about the best thing you can do is hit or cut the aggressor’s hand or arm (defanging the snake)." And yes, I showed the mechanics of the techniques slowly because this is a tutorial video. If I showed the material only at full speed, then this would simply be a video of me showing off my skill. But since this video is clearly labeled "Disarm Tutorial" - it should be self-evident that this video is focused on clearly showing the mechanics of the techniques in order for a given viewer to learn the skills.

All the videos are great but they dont really teach you anything step by step its just about watching people do these drills...not sure what the purpose of the channel is?
