That bullet looks like a Minie (pronounced mini) ball, mid 1850's. Very common from the American Civil War, but obviously used all around the world. That large button looks like a toy train wheel. I find those crop markings and outlines from enclosures and houses very interesting, also how much ground water do you have that a 1' deep hole starts filling with water like that? Jeesh!

What a great field thus far, with lots of cool relics, I love when you find those old tokens. They meant so much for the field workers, so I can imagine someone was feeling quite a loss when it was missing so many years ago. That marble is top shelf, what a beauty! It's also always good to have smiling Simon on the fields with you. I'll be looking for part 2, because I know you'll be finding more great things.
Never say never. If anyone can find a Celtic coin it’s Simón. It will be by accident somehow. Not with the detector, but him just bending down to tie his shoe or something 😂 the Marble is cool.

Ahhh marbles I remember asking my grandma for some when I was a we lad she said I’m not wasting my hard earned money on marbles (mother to 8 and husband killed in a sawmill accident so raised them all herself) she said you want marbles go dig some clay out of the hill so I did a nice chunk of turquoise colored clay. We mixed it with water and a little salt and she showed me how to round them up using the palms of my hands then we baked them in the oven for about an hour and presto I had marbles I took them to school and lost all but one while learning how to play and win and soon enough I had plenty of real ones. Later on when I started rockhounding ( finding cool rocks and fossils ) my grandma explained that real rockhound leave a marble in the place they find a rock they keep so my marbles are long gone now lol (and yes I’ve found marbles in the middle of nowhere where they shouldn’t be I reckon a rockhound was there before me…) thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼 p.s. looking forward to part 2 bummer on Simon breaking that he meat be taking lessons from Brad of the Hoover boys…lol

that 3 ring slug is from a 78 cal probably an american civil war era muzzle loader sabot simon is a hoot. he is so positive, like you john. thanks for all your videos.
Congrats on the three ringer (also called that in the US btw). I live near some Civil War (US) battlefields, and these pop out of the ground with some frequency. Always cool to find! Here, the caliber ran from .52 to .58 with the latter the most common.
Well done John and Simon, I’d say that’s a good start to the New Year, a variety of relics. I’ve been researching Victorian and earlier horse drawn carriages to try and match some of the bronze fittings / thingamajingies you’ve found in the last year. I’ll let you know if I make a connection. Kevin

I admire your tenacity detecting in such terrible weather. Yesterday saw me Salmon fishing at the mouth of one of our South Island rivers in 26 degrees, whereas today it is only 17 and raining.
I found an identical bullet yesterday, first one of that size. Couldn’t believe the size and weight of it. I was wonder ing what size calibre and rifle it would be used in. Thanks for the upload John, the effort you guys put in , especially in this weather, is appreciated.👍

Some interesting finds. It looks like your weather is much the same as it is here in the Pacific Northwest of the US. Sometimes you just have to ignore the rain and get outside anyway.

The little bell you found at 12:20 ,I've found a few of those I was showing my finds to a fellow once and and he maintained they were bells for hunting ferrets.

I’m curious about 2 things… when detecting places that have evidence of the medieval plough marks, do you usually have to dig deeper and does that also make it harder for the machine to detect? And this is a stretch of a guess on the chunk of lead… I’ve seen it was common for some Romans to fashion a foot as a sort of offering. Could that be a mangled ankle? I’m also SO curious about everything you find. The imagination just soars!

The agriculture in this area the plough soil is around two feet deep and then you are onto gravel and sand which hasn’t been disturbed since the ice age 14,000 or so years ago, unless of course someone dug into it at some point. In some places the soil depth is less but realistically a small target say a hammered medieval coin of that isn’t in the top five inches and sitting flat it’s unlikely I’ll find it….. until the next time!! The lead is interesting isn’t it…. It looks very old, purpose as yet unknown!

Hi John, could the Simon's thing that got broken (with lilys) be a lid of a smoking pipe? Could you also reveal what camera you are using to film you adventures?
Might the decorated pendant Simon found, actually be a small decorative lid? The inside has an edge that looks like it is supposed to rest around a rim, and the attachment at top looks like it might be part of a hinge.
Small lead wheel is off a Victorian kids toy train. And I think the large hunk of lead you found might be a cap to a carrage Axl, but the last one is just a guess
Many thanks! Simon like me is a tour guide and we met whilst studying in Scotland to guide here. He guides mostly in the Spanish language. I then suggested he come detecting with us one weekend to Detectival in April 2023 and the rest is history!! Now he’d detect every day if he could and I get him up whenever I can as he doesn’t have access to land
The lead at 15.15, it is poured into an irregular hole in the stone when molten and the squarish hole would be a gate latch or possibly like a railing so when the lead solidifies around it it holds the squarish object in place securely, hope you know what I mean, you can see similar on park boundary walls where they cut off all the railings to use the metal for the war effort.
I have a question for Simon - can public detect in Spain ? There must be wonderful things to be found there with so much history. I hear it is not allowed in Portugal unfortunately.🙂🇨🇦

I found a marble in my friend’s backyard, her house was built in the 1920’s. It looked very similar to the one you found.

There are several springs but as of yet no villas ever found in Scotland

Might the decorated pendant Simon found, actually be a small decorative lid? The inside has an edge that looks like it is supposed to rest around a rim, and the attachment at top looks like it might be part of a hinge.
Small lead wheel is off a Victorian kids toy train. And I think the large hunk of lead you found might be a cap to a carrage Axl, but the last one is just a guess

Many thanks! Simon like me is a tour guide and we met whilst studying in Scotland to guide here. He guides mostly in the Spanish language. I then suggested he come detecting with us one weekend to Detectival in April 2023 and the rest is history!!
Now he’d detect every day if he could and I get him up whenever I can as he doesn’t have access to land

The lead at 15.15, it is poured into an irregular hole in the stone when molten and the squarish hole would be a gate latch or possibly like a railing so when the lead solidifies around it it holds the squarish object in place securely, hope you know what I mean, you can see similar on park boundary walls where they cut off all the railings to use the metal for the war effort.
That lump of lead, possibly a neck piece from a statue? It has that appearance.

He tells me it’s illegal in Spain also and he has some incredible history in his area in Galicia just north of Portugal 🇵🇹
