This was the first NASCAR game EA made after the death of Dale Earnhardt, so they decided to put that little homage to him by showing his #3 before the EA Sports intro. Really cool stuff from them.
Mm-hmm. That's why they no longer featured Dale Earnhardt's #3 car from this game on.
They didn't feature it as a normal because nobody ran the number 3, and Sr. is actually in every game after this, as an unlockable or buyable thunder plate

I have the PlayStation 2 version. It's strange this game was never released on the PC.
That's because we got nascar 2002 season by papyrus which is one of the best nascar games of all time.
NASCAR THUNDER 2002 also has very good visuals. Way better than even PROJECT CARS 3 and GT7.
This was my first NASCAR game I ever played back in 2003 and seeing this brings back so many nostalgic memories!

2023, NASCAR THUNDER 2002 still is one of the GOATED NASCAR Games. Even miles above Gran Turismo 7!

Holy crap... I think this was the one I played. I couldn't remember the name of this for SOOOO LONG!!!! I only played this like, once back in 2012, & never knew of how old this game was. Back in 2012, you could've TOLD me this was just released in 2012, & I would've believed you! It took me until THIS FREAKIN' LONG to find out that this game came out in 2001!

Lol i had this when i was 6-8 and all i really did was wake up in the morning for school eat Spaghetti O's for breakfast in my room, boot up ps2 and Play a round with a car i created with fire and max speed and shit lol..
Little do you know i knew nothing about racing at the time, so all i did was go the opposide/wrong way, and crash into other cars at full speed XD theyd go on fire and everything went crazy XD
I was playing nascar 98 on ps1 when I was 8. Going back those cars looked like absolute pancakesbut I did enjoy the nascar thunder series the best
Wish the cars sounded like this in 2003 and 2004 instead of that weird underwater sound.
Almost 20 Years Later and I'm still wrecking the competition because screw etiquette, it turns oval racing into a boring midday slog of rush hour traffic. Filthy racing makes oval races exciting and entertaining.
No doubt. Worth 100 bucks.

Always thought it was odd, these games always had the #43 & #45 but never the #44
Kyle Petty drove the 44, his son drove the 45 and then he died in a crash. Didn’t Kyle move to the 45 to carry on his sons memory? I could be wrong but I thought that’s why the 44 wasn’t run for awhile.
buckshot jones and christian fittipaldi ran the 44 car before. maybe due to licensing issues.

I still have this game in ps2, but I have a problem playing the Tallahassee track car. It always freezes the game. It might be because of the disc.

FrAnky Cee even with component cables PlayStation 2 video output looks messy, this type of quality is more accurate to getting component cables for the Xbox version

Car models looked like crap compared to 2001.
PS2 graphics had limitations. Plus, this game came out in 2001.
