I cut my hair and am re growing it out. It was so long down to my chest after 3 years. I use grapeseed oil which is full of vitamin e mixed with avocado oil. My hair grows so fast.
I've tried using both and ended up liking both. If I had to pick one over the other I'd pick using a hair butter over just the oil. In my current routine, I use leave-in, olive oil mixed with castor oil, and then mango butter to seal it all in. My hair is moisturized all week and I don't need to add anything to it.
I find grapeseed oil is lighter, but olive oil is a bit too heavy as a sealant for my very soft, fine textured hair. My hair is absorbs moisture very easily. The oil that I most prefer as a sealant after my leave in conditioner has been applied is "avocado" oil. It's the absolute best!!
I used to use the Doo Gro line of hot oil treatments as a child. I now use minimal products (light conditioner leave in if necessary and a heat protector spray) before drying and styling. Butters are a bit heavy but have their place.
I like to use a leave-in, an oil, preferably grape seed (fall/winter) and jojoba (spring/summer) in summer before a gel, curling cream or butter! So I really need both. The olive oil works better for me as an oil rinse. Your hair is absolutely beautiful! You take such good care of it!
I like using oil and butter as sealants. First oil, then top it with butter. For me coconut oil is the best moisturizing oil and I use it for its conditioning properties. Butters give me that smoothness, add a little weight to my hair and aid in detangling more than oils do. On my hair they both work better together. I've experimented with using one or the other.
For my high-porosity hair (plus I live in a very humid environment), gels definitely act as a sealant: My hair would have zero hold, and just be a giant puff ball if I didn’t end with a gel - and it must be a gel without glycerin high on the ingredients list! For a while a stopped using creams - just went straight from leave-in to gel. But I found that my styles last longer and hair is more moisturized if I do all three = leave-in, twisting cream, then gel.
@@sable7114 I don’t find them to be damaging at all. On the contrary, for me *not* using a gel is more damaging because my hair gets tangled more easily- causing knots, pulling, split ends, etc - because it doesn’t remain as smooth as when gel is applied. If you decide to give gels a try, read the ingredients and find ones that contain less glycerin (they all contain a bit of it). My current favorite is Cantu gel w flaxseed - glycerin is way towards the end of ingredients. Another that I’ve used successfully is from the Curls brand and is called “blueberry bliss”. Good luck!
I really ENJOY your videos!!!! The aloe vera juice ones are GREAT! Personally, I can't use olive oil---> it's TOO HEAVY for my 4b hair. It gives me REALLY bad dandruff and makes my hair STINK >_< (And I didn't use CHEAP olive oil either). For me, avocado or grapeseed oil is a better sealing alternative because it holds and seemingly EVERYTHING -Water/Aloe Juice, etc-under it into my hair deeply. for long lasting moisture after doing the LOC or LCO method. My hair stays moisturized for days! Also, the shine is INCREDIBLE! Both oils go straight into my hair and soak everything under it directly into the hair WITHOUT being heavy. The grapeseed oil is a LOT lighter though.
I like olive oil now. I often rotate it with jbco or grapeseed oil depending on what I desire to do to my hair. Butter is a little too much for my hair ; oils only every 3 to four days only THEN I can say " I'm good!"
Your hair looks sooo good. Hands were a little greasy 😹 I've tried olive oil in the past and it was too heavy for my hair. Most oils seeps into my skin so the most that I will do (periodically) is put a bit on my ends to help smooth them but I like a formulated oil. I mainly will do a gel or cream.
Really, I only use leave-in. I have finished two butter jars since natural (As I Am). I love "As I Am" products. I just don't have money right now for the little extras, so it's just leave in. However, years back Joyce Meyers came to Colorado. And at this time I was relaxed and I loved using olive oil from the kitchen. Well those gatherings are large, and we are pretty close together like those Mega churches (in our largest venue). I had not been seated long when I heard the lady behind me complain about the smell of olive oil to the lady she was with (it bothered her). She did not like smelling it. Thankfully, she was tactful and not rude and said nothing directly to me. So I've learned to be considerate in the future with olive oil (don't where to large crowds-note to self...lol). It's like if you have a large afro in a gathering...be sensitive to where you are sitting. Our theater chairs now...not a problem but the old days... So...I don't know how I got here. Yeah, I love olive oil. And, I can afford it right now!! Take care...
I will try using grapeseed oil next wash day. my hair had a white cast on it after coming in from the rain. For this reason, I stopped using olive oil. The other reason, when I touch my hair, the oil is in my hand. Thanks for this video.
Well you look beautiful babe so it’s obviously working Love using olive oil myself straight from the homeland of Greece heals my roots and ends nice n good Thanks for the video
I like EVOO as a hot oil treatment but not left in my hair. It’s too heavy and also will break me out. My hair doesn’t absorb butters well. Very greasy. I seal my hair with gel.
Y'all please check out black girl curls oil doesn't seal in moisture it creates build up and stops water for entering in, it's also very hard to shampoo off 🥴
I didn't know olive oil wasn't a sealant oil i was sealing my hair with olive oil anyway 😭😭 but right now im trying to find a sealing butter or oil because my hair is damaged so i can restore my hair back to health

Hi Joy-el, next time try grapeseed oil. I love it because it doesn't leave a greasy film and it leaves my hair so soft and moisturized.

Olive is great as a sealant, just an alrounder oil❤️

Our gels very damaging to the hair or they damaging at all? I'm waiting on the summer humidity and don't know what to do to my hair

Pat the hair with a viva towel grade paper towel, and that will take care of the oil residue. My hair soaks oil up like a sponge...
Can you do a Miss Jessie's curly pudding review? Or have you ever used any of Miss Jessie's products?

I love olive oil
Try Using water as your base; hot water first. Spray hair with water, then oil
I’m new here so not sure if you’ve already covered it, but red brush details please!
Felicia Leatherwood brush! 😁
