Great video......would love to see a note on how to secure your utilities if needed...i.e. natural gas, water, electrical.....thanks for creating this though!! Good Job!!
Yes, good call, nicholas. We used the same producer and director for our ShakeOut video. California has a similar video detailing the effects of a much larger earthquake. Same music, same theme for the Utah version. Thanks for watching.
@ps2owner2 The song doesn't actually have a name. The video's producer, Theo Alexopoulos wrote the song with Joshua Temkin for the video. Theo told us that if he had to pick a name, it would be "Preparedness Now."
Hi, Claudia, Shaking from an earthquake in this scenario will likely not have severe shaking in Park City. However, we expect severe damage to roads between Park City and Salt Lake City. Unfortunately, there's no way to know when an earthquake will strike. They are unpredictable. That's why we have the Great Utah ShakeOut every year. The ShakeOut helps each person plan for earthquakes. Feel free to visit ShakeOut.org/utah to learn more! Thanks!
Hi! I live in Herriman will the earthquake be really bad here because it was yellow in the map and I am concerned it happening when I am asleep can you give me tips on what to do if I am sleeping because I cannot go under my bed because there are drawers on my bed frame
Hi, yes the earthquake was felt in Salt Lake but was actually centered in Idaho. Just a reminder that the energy from earthquakes can travel for quite a distance.
We've been warned to prepare our homes, families, food storage for 60 or moreyears by our leaders. If one isn't preparing the best they can, they will suffer. This is real people. Awake and prepare.
Lord help us all. I live in Rose Park, just thinking about losing family members, house, food, water, electricity, valuables make me think if my family made it that's all I would have to worry about. :'( 😢😥😞
It is scary, but the same time forces you to start thinking, researching and preparing so you have better chances on survival. Be grateful you're not in LA lol or NYC. It's a part of life and mother nature. It's happened before and it will again. Life goes on with or without us. Stay Safe. God Bless.
@@jessicayoung7132 I don't know, Utah has a 50% probability of a 7+ magnitude earthquake and as the video describes, many homes are not prepared to withstand it. I'd rather live somewhere like LA where the buildings there were constructed with an earthquake resistant code, even though they get more earthquakes it has actually helped them prepare.
Unfortunately, earthquakes are unpredictable. But earthquake drills are not. Visit shakeout.org/utah to register for the Great Utah ShakeOut earthquake drill. It's happening April 20, 2017, and gives everyone in Utah a chance to do something to be better prepared for a quake. Hope to see you participating!
thats true but people over exaggerate it too.. we should always expect the worst but keep it to ourselves because it gets annoying and then everybody starts freaking out
This is a preparedness thing so that you can be ready cause it could happen anyday and we don't know when. You might be having drills at your school, in fact I had one today, its just a warning and a way to say be prepared.
I don't understand. Is this some scare video to make you paranoid about the possibility of an Earthquake, or is there scientific data stating/predicting that there will be a 7.0 earthquake in April of 2012?
@10dollabill you never know. nobody can predict when an earthquake is going to happen. And im am like freakin' scared i don't want any close friends or family to die.
Some people from be ready utah came to my school, draper park middle school. They showed us this video and everyone freaked out! Ha! Good times, good times.
+Soupybacca 1234 We all live near it. The best thing we can do is be as prepared as possible. Just take some small steps today to get started. Check us out at BeReadyUtah.gov for preparedness info.
For real. It is intense, but take some time and use this knowledge to strengthen your resolve to do something to be prepared, even if it's just getting a small first-aid kit to keep in your car. Everyone can do something today. Thanks!
@TheMichaelGWSU Just wanted you to know that this video reflects the very real possibilities that could happen if a 7.0 were to strike the Wasatch Fault. As someone who works with this data every day, I see this video as a sobering reminder that we need to be prepared. This video doesn't go over the top. The data here come from sophisticated earthquake modeling software from FEMA. In other words, we're not just trying to scare people. We're teaching them what they should truly prepare for.
Actually, this video was produced in 2012. We keep sharing this video because it describes the scientific modeling that was done to see how bad an earthquake could be in the Salt Lake City area. Now that we know the risk, we can better prepare. Another more recent study says that we have a 50-50 chance of a damaging earthquake in the next 50 years. Something to think about.
Thank you so much for the information and guides that you have provided. I am on the Wasatch front and I know it will affect me and all my family and friends.
Well, we're all going to die at some point. But if you're talking specifically about this earthquake scenario, then you should know there are things you can do to lessen your chances of being hurt or killed in an earthquake. Visit ShakeOut.org/utah to learn more and make sure to share your concerns with a loved one. Ask them how you can be better prepared for earthquakes and other disasters.
We wish we could predict earthquakes. Alas, we can't. There could be one right now.... or right..... now. Or..................................... now. Nope. Take some time to prepare today since we have no idea. bereadyutah.gov. Good luck on your next guess.
Guys if your in provo you might be fucked but it wouldn't Worry so much if your in orem.. yeah we may get some damage... Good thing I live right behind a nice open field behind me XD.. this may not even happen for the next 100 years...
hahaha ok so it would be a terrible thing if a major earthquake happened. I know that. I lived in California all my life and I always heard about "the big one" that would send california into the pacific. but this video is hysterical. I'm sorry I'll probably come off as insensitive but this was a little over the top imo...
True, you don't know exactly how many people will die. But the best we can do is use sophisticated earthquake modeling software, combined with demographic data to produce simulated maps of shaking. Severe shaking in certain types of buildings is more likely to cause deaths. Based on the possibility of destruction, we can come up with a number. Many variations of earthquake intensity, depth, ground motion and distance from populated areas would cause different results. I have to say this, though, we are very serious about this. This video is not trying to merely scare people. The numbers are based on science and there's something you can do. You can prepare. Start today. Just something. Look for all of our tips on BeReadyUtah.gov. Thanks!
Nope. It's all real. The statistics are based on scientific projections from many different seismic organizations in the western United States. See this booklet for more detailed info: ow.ly/OKv730hk8OK
Rider Mortensen we're failing to see how this is funny. This is a scenario, based on geologic and seismic studies, that gives us an idea of just how bad an earthquake would be if it were to happen. The goal: to get you to prepare now so you can survive and help others. Have you not seen what just happened with Mexico's earthquake? Hundreds of people have died. This is really serious stuff.
I put this on my FB page.we are in Medical Reserves & CERT. I am grateful for the excellent training I've received beyond that of EMT.
I live right on the wasatch fault line :)
Anyone else here after the recent earthquake?

I'm kinda nervous because there was a tremor this morning

Savana Lorie: take care there Savana. I’m from Utah and have family there. I was worried when I heard about it this morning.
Working to get our school ready. Powerful video. Thanks.
@wake2thareel The video was produced using a combination of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.
we watched this in school, well that was assuring :|

earthquake is a natural globe world that way...
dont be complain-panic...

Is this one going to be dangerous? I don’t want to die how can I survive and be prepared for this?
I live un Par City will it hit there

Thanks BUT do you have a estimet of the time?
This isn't really a joke, though. The number of people who could die is an estimate. It's a good estimate, but it's just an estimate.
There was a earthquake in utah salt lake yesterday september 2 at 5:56

Who’s here now that it happened?
Me!! I'm so freaked out I can hardly function and I barely slept last night.
That wasn't the big one dude. That was merely a 5.7 earthquake in Magna. Now imagine a 7+ on the wasatch front, where many homes are built by.
I think everyone who lives along the Wasatch Front should watch this.
Literally the mountains are right behind my house 😭😭😭
What's with the Boomer style mid life crisis music in the background?
what video editor do you use?
how soon until this happens?
