  • Can the BOLT cut and engrave coloured cast acrylics? Let's make a simple sign together on the Thunder Laser BOLT using 3 different colours. I have included links to my settings in the video. Cheers!

For your next project I'd like to see a diorama picture engraved with multiple colors showing a tree hung up in another tree while felling said tree. Saw that happen on another channel I watch...ha. As an OG early subscriber to GP Outdoors and watching this channel because of it I know one thing for certain, your daughter is looking down smiling/proud and happy that "dad" stayed course and got into working with a laser machine. I tip my hat to you, well done!

Geez , thanks so much Morgan. I needed a moment before responding. I have her picture hung right above the laser - we were supposed to do the laser together. Thank you for your kind note. And thank you for not forgetting her. She was awesome. And I see her every morning when I use the laser. Thanks again. :)

    Hello Gord,
Have you considered using a hypodermic injection needle with the plunger instead of the plastic squeeze bottle that drips out the cap threads? The hypo needles come in different diameters with a sharp chisel edge. Maybe try the narrowest diameter needle and filing off the chisel end to a flat & 90 degree end. Then polish and square up end of needle with fine 500-1000 grit diamond card. The smallest diameter needle may be what you need for precision and drip control. Amazon sells packs of various sized needles pretty cheap. A drugstore will demand a doctors prescription but Amazon doesn’t. Cheers!
I have some separate new and untouched needles (inside the little cases) in my First Aid box that are excellent for removing tiny wood or metal splinters from my fingers. Needles are so sharp that you can gently slice out the splinter with exact control and barely feel any pain. I wear a headset magnifier to see the splinter up very close when using the hypo needle. If a buddy needs to remove his splinter give him a new sealed needle, don’t lend yours to him for health reasons.

Gord, I was wondering if you could create a number of small holes inside the engraved pockets completely through your base material when you are doing the engraving. Then after you cutout the letters of the appropriate material, tape with perhaps masking tape the cutout letters into their respective pockets. After this, turn the entire assembly with the taped in letters over in order to place the weld liquid through the holes from the back. This way any drips would be on the back, not on the front where they would be seen. It may be necessary to apply some down pressure from the back when applying the weld liquid to ensure there are no voids between the letters and the base. This maybe a bad idea but it does keep th3 drips on the back. Enjoy these and the outdoor videos.

Good morning Ronnie! I think that is an excellent idea - I can add little holes easily and I think that would work great! I will give it a try next week for sure. Thanks - I really appreciate it. I think when selling something to a customer, it needs to be perfect and I agree, if it drips I would rather have the drips on the back and keep the face of the sign clean. Thanks again - great idea I think!

I enjoy your videos so much. I learn something every time I watch. Thank you for sharing your Bolt journey. I haven’t used acrylic with the Bolt yet. I did use it when I had my Glowforge. I am looking forward to giving it a try using your settings. I made some Easter decorations with clear acrylic with the Glowforge that were ‘nightlights/signs’. Your LaserNug sign turned out great.
