it's a light hearted scene of deep character growth after more than a few traumatic events. It's cool how they interalize shadow puppets and then use to get justice for the arrow clans actions.
I saw this last night and the shadows sequence was so. Pure. It’s wholesome and soft. To me, its the Jester showing the Prince that its not about combat, that despite and injury he can still create beauty and magic. When the Prince gets upset his dog can’t bite the Jester, the Jester transforms the folded arms, the anger, into a grooming cat. The Prince’s shadows become better than the Jester’s over the course of the song, and the final bird is just gorgeous. This piece is soft and gentle and simple, surrounded by action and power and tragedy. And I think that’s why I love it so much.
One of the outstanding things about KA is that it exhibits the highest level of tech innovation with that fantastic movable stage, and the purest most basic form of entertainment with this incredible shadow play scene..
I love how they in their acts do these so called 'simple' scenes, like a clown that acts like a comedy buffoon dropping things, rings flying off to nowhere. Filler act while they set up the stage for the next incredible actions. BUT - the buffoon lets a ring roll on the stage and it goes around and around...then rolls back to him and not even looking at it once after releasing it he reaches behind him and picks it up, not even waiting for it to hit his hand he's timed it that perfectly...! So even simple stages like this you are amazed at how perfect and how advanced they are.
It's like animation in its earliest form. What animation and shadow play have in common is that they use the power of the hands to both tell stories and breathe inanimate objects to life!

Wife and I saw this show last night and and this had to be my favorite scene. It was very nice. The simplicity of this scene was amazing.
Best shadow puppets I've ever seen, and the music just flows right over you.
