    A jig has gotta be my favorite. Honestly it seems as though I don’t get quite as many bites on a jig, but when I do more times than not it’s a hog!!! Which I guess is the reason I enjoy it so much!

    Best way to learn about jig fishing is to fish with a jig master. I learned from a buddy who coached me while standing next to him. Most of my jig fish I never feel, I see line movement and set the hook. Waiting to feel a fish usually ends with me missing it.

    As someone who has caught the bulk of his fish on jigs and Texas rigs for close to 5 decades I can tell you that this information is accurate and reliable, especially the part about colors. Forget matching the hatch. Focus on water clarity and sky conditions then worry about the rest.

    In 7 minutes you more clearly and understandably explained using a jig than I've found in hours of consuming other sources of info. BTW, I landed my first ever jig caught bass this summer on one of your old school jigs and it was my PB small mouth.

    2 years ago I found myself at a private lake. The bass we’re hitting everything I tied on. Had 0 confidence in jigs, having thrown them but never caught a fish. I spent on a whole day on that lake throwing a jig. Since then, it’s been a struggle to put it down. All my PBs over last 2 years have come from a jig. Maybe not as many bites, but the when they do bite, they are typically larger than normal.

    Looking forward to the long form on jigs. The jig has been my most productive tournament bait for years. I've found that 4 fish caught on a jig will weigh more than 5 on most other baits. Fishing a jig takes a lot of confidence, you generally don't get a lot of bites.

      @Calijay707 Год назад +1

      Wow. That explains why I didn’t catch anything when I used it the other day. I had absolutely no confidence in it so I just kept switching it on and then back off after maybe 3-10 casts for something I DID have more confidence in and yet still only caught 1 freshwater drum after an entire day on the kayak. I guess I’m gonna have to put some faith into the jig lol

    I agree with Randy on the trailer, I prefer a chunk over other soft plastics and most people rig a chunk backwards. The part that bulges out should be down, on the bottom.

    I have a lot of jigs in different colors. All of them will catch, but for whatever reason, regardless of conditions, black and blue always seems to outperform anything else.
    It's not just jigs either. Everything except jerk baits and crank baits is dominated by the black and blue. In clear conditions, the translucent jerks and cranks are just money almost all of the time.
    But any other time, black and blue, and Junebug just always produces. Something about the dark color just gets noticed better.

    Hi Randy! I took your advice and picked up some Vision oneten Silents (Stain reaction, Elegy Bone, and Tennessee Shad since I fish Old Hickory most of the time.. Weekend tournament fishing mainly. I am pre-fishing next Sunday and doing a benefit tournament on the 28th. I live in Hendersonville, TN I can’t figure a way to send the screenshot of our weather to this post but could you offer some advice? You know Old Hickory/ Cumberland river is always low visibility. Any help is much appreciated sir.. Rich

      Bulkier appearance of the bait to the fish with a skirt on it, it looks like a bigger meal to a bigger fish. You can throw a skirt on a Texas rig too and make it just like a jig.

    I agree completely, quality fish be on jigs with less bites, newbies don't like fishing them because only might get 10 bites a day when they can catch all the dinks they want throwing a crankbait, spinnerbait,etc

    Guys I’m going to jump in on this one and tell everyone the truth about jigs. They don’t get enough bites to keep people fishing them. They also are not nearly as versatile as soft plastics. Fish also need to be pretty aggressive to strike a jig. Yes they do catch quality fish but definitely not all the time. Plenty small fish eat jigs too. I say commit to it if they are eating it that day. Or pick it up when you’ve already got at least 3 other fish on the boat. I’ve always used them and always will but you have to know when to leave it alone. Also when you watch all the pro tournaments they are rarely throwing jigs compared to other baits. So we’ve all been told to just throw jigs for big fish but the pros are using all these other baits besides jigs. We know this because we get to see what they are doing on video now!!
