I knew i could do this, i've done already a bunch of times, but today i was having trouble with discovering an ip address for an ata device and i wasn't willing to reset it. Your video put me on the right path without seconds thoughts and i was able to discover the ip address using what i already knew...thanks
you should use crossover ideally although straight thru works with most modern devices as they mostly have auto sensing built-in. Ideally you should connect directly to the device in question. If you go through a switch first you will not see all traffic coming from the other device.

This was slightly different than what I saw on Wireshark but the key to being able to get to my camera's web page was to set my ethernet 3 IP address to some unique address with a different lower byte of the camera's gateway; and the subnet to 255.0.0.0 the way you did. I knew my MAC from the printed label under the camera but not the IP. But Wireshark did show me the gateway for the Camera (finally!) From there, follow your advice and I'm in business!
what if the camera was not configured to look up a gateway? is there another common broadcasted type of packet that devices use to send that includes their own ip address?
You could've left the subnet mask at 255.255.255.0 and it would have worked. Everything from 10.20.30.1 through 10.20.30.254 would be in the same subnet.
Couple of question, 1) if ip cam is wireless do you still look under local area connection to make changes 2) I still could not connect to cam to change setting back to factory thanks

My router keeps showing a random unknown “reserved” IP address that I didn’t make. (I delete it when I see it) Could it be a hacker? Or is it a device that’s automatically making it? Every time I see it it’s always inactive too.
+Abdul Tohid Crossover cable is usually not required as the two parties sort out the connection via auto-MDIX. Nethertheless this video is outdated and there are better ways. My resolution for the next year is to produce some updated videos. :-)

as of today, cross cable is used for me, only for connect and exchange data between two workstations. Perhaps also interconnect two L3 switches with trunk ports as well.
This of course only works if you're on the same vlan... if you're in a multi subnet network seeing this, then this way fails miserably, as you'll need to repeat these steps on EVERY subnet you have.

many small utilities online to see the live IP/s ? right ? . But need to edit them in the camera to my new network to put them all onto ??

why wireshark do not translate youtube ip to a dns domain name ("youtube.com")? Even with the name resolution checked..

no. just make your IP unique, change the subnet mask a little bit
How did you know it was a Class A subnet? (255.0.0.0)
I realize this is almost a decade old, but 10.X.X.X falls within the private class A range.
