    Video Description
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    When you want to root a phone, a common method is downloading the firmware from the OEM, extracting the boot.img file, patching it with Magisk and then flashing that patched file in Fastboot mode.
    #android #googlepixel #samsunggalaxy #oneplusnord #oneplus9 #oneplus10 #magisk
    Companies like Google and Xiaomi host their firmware in a way that makes it very easy to get that boot.img file from the firmware. But there are other OEMs like OnePlus that make this a bit more difficult.
    Thankfully, Magisk received an update recently that can automatically extract that boot.img file from payload.bin files and I'm going to show you how it's done today.
    So here we have the latest firmware file downloaded for the OnePlus 9 Pro. This was downloaded directly from the OnePlus website and we would normally want to extract this file to find the boot.img file.
    But as you can see here, when we go inside this compressed file, we're only given a massive payload.bin file.
    Before, I would have to use a 3rd-party tool to decode this file and extract the boot.img file from it. And thankfully, this is no longer required.
    You're going to want to make sure you have version 26.2 of Magisk or higher installed on your smartphone or tablet. That is the version this feature was implemented so you will have to update to it, or a higher version, if you want to use Magisk with payload.bin files.
    So we're just going to tap on the Install button right here.
    And then we'll choose the Select and Patch a File option.
    Now we're going to browse to where we have that compressed firmware file stored.
    And then we can select it.
    Magisk will do all of the work for us, now, as it extracts the boot.img file, patches it, and then gives us the location of that patched file.
    We didn't even need to extract the payload.bin flie from the firmware ZIP file.
    We were able to just load up that initial download of the firmware, and Magisk did everything we needed.
    You can see the patched_magisk file is right here. So I would just need to take this file, copy it over to my PC.
    And then I could flash it via Fastboot Mode to gain root access to the OnePlus 9 Pro.
    This new update of Magisk will work with payload.bin firmware files from all Android OEMs. It is not limited to just OnePlus devices.
    If you have a phone from a company that releases firmware downloads in the payload.bin format then this new version of Magisk can produce a patched version of the boot.img file for you quickly and easily.
    So now we can grab the boot img from a rom zip with Magisk but there are phones where we patch the init boot and not the boot img so can Magisk really only grab the boot img or does "it know" when to grab another img?
      Magisk usually has to be updated to support phones that have started using init_boot instead of how it used to be. for example, Samsung just switched to the new style. so Magisk had to be updated to support the newer Samsung phones that are getting this new method
      so while it didn't know to work at first, once the issue was reported to the magisk devs, they pushed an update out that fixed things
      so it will be the same for other phones that just make the switch to init_boot
    I have a friend who said that the payload.bin file he downloaded from Samsung's official website is asking for a password to unzip the ROM's .img files. Have you ever come across this?
    I have realme 11 RMX3636_11_A.15 and I want to root but scared.
    I have only managed to find the firmware on a Russian website called 4pda and it provided the firmware file and the boot.img file seperately Magisk says that payload.bin contain boot.img.
    I have no idea how to proceed.
    Edit: When trying to download boot.img from the website it says 404 file not found
    so now I'm stuck with a 5GB payload file.
      Hey Mayur, I'm not sure what the cause is off the top of my head, but I will be happy to try and research a solution to this issue, but I will need you to join the Direct Support tier of the RUclips membership system - www.youtube.com/@ExplainingAndroid/join
      After that, you can use the Support Thread I created (which helps me to follow up along the way) and it will allow me to dedicate some time and attempt to work through the issue with you
