  • This video shows the process of how to calibrate the 16 speed power shift transmission on the Versatile 250, 280 and 305 tractors. This is a common question I get asked how to do and its a pretty simple process so I thought I would make a video.

    Thanks Mike for posting this. Been meaning to do it. Now I won't have to bug you or Weavers about the procedure.

    Can you tell me how to calibrate the models with left hand fed/reverse? Is it the same process?

    Thanks for the video!! Just did this today on a 250. Was also trying to figure out how to change the gear selection when going from forward to reverse? Right now when going from forward to reverse it will go to the same gear as the forward gear. Thought there was a way to have it drop a couple gears or go to a "default" gear? Any insight on this would be appreciated!

      Depending what software version the Transmission Control Module (TCM) on your tractor has makes the difference if it will match or not. The early ones had version 2.30 and the latest version is 2.34. The easiest way to tell to tell which one you have without me trying to explain how to go into the dash and read software version is just tell me when you start the tractor does the gear display show 7 (7th gear) or show 5 (gear 5) If it shows 7 you have the early software version and will need to get a dealer to reflash your TCM. If it shows gear 5 when you start the tractor let me know and I will explain the operation.

      Thanks for all your info! Yeah I'm 99% sure it shows 7th gear. I will double check tomorrow to make sure though and comment back here again.

      It probably does. Where do you live? And or who's your Versatile dealer.

      By St. Cloud, Minnesota. I had called the dealer earlier today and he didn't have an answer for it. Said he would call back when he finds something out. Didn't hear back yet. He didn't mention any of the things you brought up. I will have to mention to him about the software update to the TCM like you mentioned.

      Its a simple laptop computer program and a cable from Versatile to load this. The dealer should have this and the 2.34 software the dealer can get from the Versatile dealer portal. Only takes like 2 minutes to load then that will change your startup gear to F5 and reverse will default to R4.

    Got a question mike , I run a versatile 280 tractor it's a row crop tractor , when I start my tractor it's in the 7th gear . Is there any way to reset that to the 4th or 5th gear ? I'd love to know please

      Yes you need the newer version of transmission software. Your Versatile dealer can load that into the TCM. Transmission Control Module pretty east.

    Do you need to have the clutch pushed in to get going? Or can you just put it in gear without pushing it in?

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  5 лет назад

      Either way is fine. I mostly use the clutch pedal for hooking up and tight manuevering . Otherwise I just throw it in gear and go

      @@farmhandmike Thats what i thought i was reading the owner's manual and it called it a inching pedal. I did know the answer for sure so i just used the clutch.

    Hey Mike, got a 250, all clutches calibrate fine except number 4. Does this mean clutch 4 is smoked?

    • @jameswinkenwader5839

      Also have no 1,2,3,10 gears. All other gears operate fine.

      @@jameswinkenwader5839 clutch could be bad but I’d check the transmission solenoid and spool for that clutch. You can swap it with another clutch solenoid and see if the problem moves.

    Is that a Funk transmission?

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  7 лет назад

      No but it is very similar. John Deere bought Funk and then quit making the transmission. This transmission is made by Uni-Vance and or Fuji who makes some transmission for CNH. The transmission is made in Japan.

      However there was a 100 or so 250 and 280's built with a Funk transmission.

      It reminded me of the 70 series New Hollands but it's been so long I couldn't remember, I thought they were Funks.
