This was requested by my friend at his funeral by him before he passed. Once a strong healthy 47yr old man, who got cancer which ravaged his body in 6 short months. Boy, did this give me a WAKEUP CALL of how fragile and limited our time own is on earth. And all your money, won't another minute buy! Powerful lyrics dude.
Clyde Barrow , I lived through radiation and chemo. I beat my cancer, but the side effects, after 5 years, make me totally different than the woman I once was. While you are going through the treatments, you have to wonder, if you will have a life. When I started treatment my granddaughter was a week old. I would look at her and ask God for just a little more time. I wanted to see her grow up just a little while to see how she was going to look and know her personality. I thank God for this time. She is so beautiful and her personality is like a firecracker on the Fourth of July. I’m sorry you lost your friend. Cancer is a hard thing to get through. I couldn’t walk, when it was over. The radiation burns you inside and out. Healing takes years, but your mind is never the same. George Harrison, my favorite Beatle died from cancer in 2001. He wrote a song named Stuck In A Cloud and I knew exactly what he was talking about, when I heard it. Check it out. That is exactly how you feel. I’m sorry I wrote so much, but it is good to talk about sometimes. This song is exactly what it says. Dust In The Wind. ❤️🌹❤️
Exactly...Steve Jobs had the exact same sentiment... Life is very fragile, the bible says it is as a vapor, appears for a little while and vanishes away.
Hello, sorry for your lost when I read your comment it touched me because my brother is fighting for his life after being diagnosed with Colon Carcinoma Cancer he just had surgery 4 days ago he's still in ICU were waiting on biopsy results. My brother is Autistic this is the worst pain my heart &soul has ever been thru. He's such a kindred spirit. I'm sorry for the long comment I just felt your pain again I'm so sorry you lost your friend to Cancer it's a horrible evil parisite it destroys the strongest. I hope you find peace Sir.
I'm a violinist. In high school, everyone who was in our guitar class chose this song for their mid=term test. Guess who had to play violin for all of them? This was in the 70's...
“All we are is dust in the wind, everything is dust in the wind” I’ve read through the Bible many times and studied Scripture and I think the song appeals to people because it speaks Biblical truth. I listened to the song before I became a Christian and it made cry not just because it was beautifully done, but it also reminded me I was lost in my sin. It conveys that life is short and we are going to turn to dust. Our bodies will turn to dust, but our souls will be alive forever either in heaven or hell. Believe the gospel 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Guitarist Dave Hope spoke about this song - he said that sometimes at concerts they were stoned out of their minds and started singing "ducks" instead of "dust" - "Ducks in the wind..." - nobody noticed. Dave Hope later became an Anglican priest.
Imagine when I grew up in the 70s. We had this and other classic rock. Want some pop, Karen Carpenter and other amazing artists. Want some country. Merle Haggard and other greats. Want something that blended styles, we had Marshall Tucker, Outlaws, Allman Bros. We were so blessed. I feel sorry for young folks who hear everything produced on Pro Tools with autotune.
It is so amazing to see you really listen and genuinely appreciate the soundtrack of my youth. Thanks, from this old, white (not that it really matters) gramma. Love you like a son. Carry on.....💌
Hautingly, ageless old song that never fades in the reflection of souls coming & going through the waves of Infinite waters . . . almost a sad song, but with an undeniable beauty, that lends to the questions of our mortality and desire to find meaning in it all . . . This song today, still evokes that feeling of "desire to give life 'true' meaning to hearts with a need to know."
Listen to their song “Portrait (He Knew)”. “The inspiration for the song came from Kerry Livgren's admiration for Albert Einstein. He wrote the lyrics in a time when he was going through a spiritual transitional phase in his life, and after converting to Christianity, he re-recorded the song with his band AD, modifying the lyrics to make them fit the story of Jesus Christ and retitling the song "Portrait II".
This is a heavy song. Reality on this earth smacking you across the face with a sledge hammer!. Appreciate EVERY moment, good and bad. It's ALL worth it!! God Bless Us all.
After having my sweet sick cat put to sleep, this song played on the car radio going home. Needless to say, I was bawling my eyes out when I looked up in the sky & saw a rainbow. A day I'll never forget.
Aww it's so hard, I know. They are our family members and it's one of the hardest thing when you have to put them down. But I believe this was definitely a sign from your cat that he or she still exists and loves you and will be reunited with you one day.
You are the first "Reaction" channel I come across, and the only one I have remained subscribed to, you are the original and best for me. Congratulations on 50k...and keep being real, because if you do then the sky is the limit. Much love from Scotland ✌🏽️
You're a very kind and gentle spirit and I enjoy watching your journey of discovering music that came before you. What touched my generation is reaching forward to yours. Congratulations on your 50k. Stay on your path of discovery. See you next time. ✌
Guitarist Kerry Livgren(the blond haired guitarist), actually did most of the songwriting for Kansas. Livgren had used the acoustic picking part of this song for a long time as simply a finger picking exercise sitting around his house so his fingers wouldn't get stiff when Kansas would be at home off the road. It was actually Livgren's wife that kept telling him the acoustic musical part was beautiful and she kept encouraging him to write lyrics for the music. And thus.....................Livgren's gift to us all was Dust In The Wind!
Psalm 103:14 For He knows our form; He remembers that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and its place shall know it no more. 17 But the mercy of Jehovah is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness is to sons of sons; 18 to those who keep His covenant, and to those who remember to do His Commandments. (MKJV)
This was 1977......your rabbit hole will be never ending...the eyes are the mirror into the soul and with every video you react to your eyes are filled with more and more wonderment.
I was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas! These wonderful guys played touch football at Washburn University..on the corner. I went to Topeka High, and they went to Topeka West! As down to earth as they come in the midwest! Honored to have known them! ❤
@Brian DuffensI don't remember those groups! Of course I was only 15 yrs old and lived on 21st and Collins Avenue. We would walk to Washburn a lot for Topeka high's football games. The guys would play football in that big area on the corner of 20th and Mcvicker ? Are you from Topeka??
@Brian Duffens OMG!! Small world!! My dad had a pharmacy on 20th and Jewell..I think?? Miller Pharmacy, so I probably waited on them 🙂 I went to Boswell and then Topeka high..Graduated in the class of gulp..78. Married James Colombo..junior high and high school first Love. Went back for our 20th reunion! Boy had it changed!!! Moved to Virginia in 1982...It's so very nice to meet a fellow Jayhawker!!!! 🙂
@Brian Duffens I was there on that June 6, 1966. I was 6 and remember it so vividly! My dad saw it as he ran next door to the Sargent Arms Apartment's basement! It was devastating! The houses behind his drug store were blown off their foundation and all you could see was their basement! Mom, and my brothers were under the pool table in our basement..You could here the tornado, and yes it does sound like a train. We were spared. My father's drug store windows were blown in! There was slivers on glass inside of the candy bars..Crazy! After that one, people didn't stand on their porches when the sirens blew! LoL!! Wow..a Kindred spirit! Thank you Brian!! Your Kansas Kindness is lacking here in Virginia!
As a lifetime queen fan I must say... Brilliant song! 👍 And a good reaction.. again! Hope you find the time to react to 'It's A Hard Life' by Queen 👑... You'd love it! Cheers 🥂
It warms my heart to see you enjoy the music of my era. I'm a child of the '70s and grew up loving this kind of music. I'm so happy that your generation is discovering the beauty that came out of the '60s and the '70s. Peace.
Life is but a moment in time to give thanks in. Kansas nailed it! I had to smile when you said you knew Kansas from "Carry on Wayward Son", because if that was the only song of theirs you knew, you were going to be blown away just as soon as Steve opens his mouth & then when Robbie plays his mournful violin. I loved the expression on your face when you heard that first 50 seconds & realized this was not the Kansas "boogie rock" of "Carry on Wayward Son" that you thought you were going to hear.
I remember the first time I saw this video and being amazed when the big fuzzy guy (Robby Steinhardt) started playing that violin. He is an amazing musician... actually all of Kansas is amazing. Love their music.
Kansas is simply amazing I saw them 3 times in the 70's and they were outstanding every single time. Love your reactions and your appreciation of music, great job!
I use to sing this one with my brother on guitar. One bike ride without a helmet, and life turns on a dime. Now I visit him in the care facility and he barely tracks with his eyes. Thank you for loving this one. Beautiful and painful all at once.
My favorite band, I've seen them 3 times in concert, the first from the 2nd row on New Years Eve 1977. I fell down the Kansas rabbit hole after that show. Next up, try "Icarus Borne on Wings of Steel" from their 3rd album Masque. You won't be disappointed, I swear!
CONGRATS on 50K! You earned it. So cool watching you discover and appreciate "new" music. While it may be old to some of us, it's new to you, and that's the beauty of it. You're the only reaction channel I subscribed to because your reactions are real, and to the point. Keep doin you! 👍
Dust in the wind was part of many beautiful ideas that the hippie movement had, we are all star dust, we are all made of stars. Peace and Love, I wish we could all keep the very best parts of past ideals. 💕
This is definitely my favorite Kansas song (though "Carry On Wayward Son" comes in at a close second, also mostly because of "Supernatural") and I've loved it for a long time. The imagery and more subdued melody almost give it an ethereal quality, and there's some real truths in the words. I think the line that always gets me the most is, "Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky." It really helps put into perspective not only how fragile each of our individual lives are, but even everything we as a people have made is impermanent. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm sure it'll continue to touch you the more you listen to it.
It has to be around 1975 to 77. I loved to slow dance to this song at high school dances! My brother in-laws met with Kanas to show them a guitar foot pedal he invented. The group's Kansas and Boston bought them. Their music was beautiful.
Congratulations for "Getting" this song. It is very beautiful as well as haunting, sad and truthful. It's useful to listen to this song and possibly reset your priorities in life.
I grew up in Kansas and got to see them in concert when they were just starting out so that was the early 70s. All of these guys were from Kansas towns so that was special also. Most of the original members aren't in the group anymore. I love Steinhardt's hair, he had more hair than two people, LOL, very talented also. Livgren always had a soft, perfect pitch voices. Congrats on the 50k, you deserve it! Love your big heart also!
This was my favourite song when I was 9. My father died a few months before it was released ....so when I hear this song I automatically see his face.! Please take care of your mental health during this time. Look into complex trauma, I’m 100% certain you have have this! Cognitive behavioural therapy will be your best friend! Sending love from Canada! 🇨🇦 Take care!
Wish they had Heart buttons to click on instead of thumbs up buttons. This reaction deserves a big heart. If you want to hear another song that hits the soul like this one check out Simply Red’s-Holding back the years.I guarantee that you’ll absolutely love it!
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Kansas live in Pennsylvania in 2010...Steve Walsh's last performance with the band, sad to say. I am here to say that he still could hit them notes. I kid you not. I have the utmost respect for him... I've listened to and loved this band since I first heard "Icarus" on the radio...WAY back in 1975... Yes, I'm old, but at least I know excellent music when I hear it. Thank you so much for reacting to/reviewing this song...
Lead singer Steve Walsh has an amazing voice and also plays the keyboard, and all the band members are talented and amazing musicians. I also recommend "Point of Know Return" and "The Wall."
Congrats on 50K JB little would you know that you would be at 63K now! Great reaction to an under rated band - Another song from them I think you'd like would be "Hold On". Another song with meaning and inspiration!! Be safe and rock on!
The blond haired guy on the left wrote most of their songs. This song is the last one they did for the album. What he’s playing on the guitar all through the song is actually a finger exercise for guitar players. His wife suggested he make a song around it. Saw it on a documentary a few yrs. back. Saw them twice in concert.
Man! My first memory of this song was sitting in the cafeteria at Peck Junior High School, eating chocolate chip cookies and washing them down with chocolate milk. It was probably 1978. The song about mortality was somehow reassuring at that age and in that setting. Kansas was my first concert. It was awesome.
Came out in 1977. I was a senior in high school. Actually could have been 78 after graduation lol. Anyway it was my fave song for a long time. Born and raised in FL but ended up living in Kansas later for 12 years. I love Kansas...band and state lol.💖😁
This song came out in 1977. I was 15 years old, but have always loved it. I knew of this band pretty early in their career because I live in Kansas and they had played locally 3 or 4 times. I believe a couple of the band members came from the town I live in. You are my favorite reactor and yeah I have been wondering where you were.
I love your reactions. It makes so many of us feel great to know that a young person appreciates the music we grew up with and loved so much. So much real talent back then.
It is Biblical. We all are just dust in the wind. Enjoy everyday. The old adage you can't take It with you. Look up the lyrics and read each stanza. The song is beautiful. 🎶 🌙 🌟 love your reaction.
I really like this song too. Its so sad, but i dont mind that, because its the reason i find it so beautiful. I always tend to love this sad songs, that touch me inside. Thank you for your beautiful reaction. And congrats to getting more subscribers.
Even in your absence, we were with you in spirit! Your reactions are so pure and true, and you resurrect these masterpieces. So exciting to watch...thanks JB.
Watching you react to the songs I grew up listening to reminds me again what fantastic music we were able to experience. I was in high school when this song came out. Thank you for appreciating all these great musicians.
I LOVE YOU, James! You have such a Sweet Spirit. Never change. Congratulations on 50K. 100 is just around the corner, Friend. From the Great State of Oklahoma!
Congratulations on your 50K subscribers!! I grew up listening to Kansas. An amazing band. And this song is one of their best. Thanks for reacting. So great to see you enjoying and appreciating songs from my youth!
Good morning. Congratulations towards your 100k.. this song is wonderful. I love the songs you choose to react on. I love music and the lyrics these artists have. I'm with you with the chills all over. But, it's so true. Stay safe, and blessed sweety. Will be watching!! Lol.
My grandma used to say she wanted this song played at her funeral. Sadly she and my sister are not speaking to me and the rest of the family is also not in touch with them or is already deceased. So this will be up to my sister to remember as a solo enterprise.
When I was attending college (The Monterey Institute Of International Studies, Monterey, CA,) this was a monster hit. And one of my favorite songs from the period.
One of the most timeless and beautiful songs ever written.
I agree I love singing it.
Have you noticed how spiritual so much of the music from the 70s really was?
They were on a spiritual journey.
This was requested by my friend at his funeral by him before he passed. Once a strong healthy 47yr old man, who got cancer which ravaged his body in 6 short months. Boy, did this give me a WAKEUP CALL of how fragile and limited our time own is on earth.

"And all your money, won't another minute buy" great line
First time I understand what this line really means.
Yes! Truer words were never spoken....you can't take anything with you...you just won't need it

Came out in 1977...best violin in rock music at the time....the song is so truthful about life
This is their most iconic song! I love Carry On My Wayward Son too but this song is EPIC! I love it!
Point of No Return is another Kansas awesome jam tune!
I love your reactions to these 70's songs. I was born in 71 & I was raised listening to this music. Trip down a wonderful memory lane.
Guitarist Dave Hope spoke about this song - he said that sometimes at concerts they were stoned out of their minds and started singing "ducks" instead of "dust" - "Ducks in the wind..." - nobody noticed.

It was all so great it makes it hard to not let wanting to go back take over the need to keep moving forward. Good time for sure!
The Point of No Return by Kansas is awesome too!
It is so amazing to see you really listen and genuinely appreciate the soundtrack of my youth. Thanks, from this old, white (not that it really matters) gramma. Love you like a son. Carry on.....💌

It came out in 1977.

Man when that violin started you were locked in with that concentration.
"Song for America" one of their best songs. A Kansas classic.
Live version on two for the show is the best version
And no auto tune!!! Again the 70's is where you will find some of the best music ever written!! Hoping you are doing well!!
After having my sweet sick cat put to sleep, this song played on the car radio going home. Needless to say, I was bawling my eyes out when I looked up in the sky & saw a rainbow. A day I'll never forget.

Because of this song I got hooked on Kansas. I purchased years ago the Kansas cd with this song and Carry on My Wayward Son with I like.
Kansas was known for using mainly stringed instruments.Loved it.

So many great songs by Kansas, The Wall, people of the Southwind and many more
I love your reaction! This song came out in 1977 when I was was 19. I’m 62 now and this is still one of my favorites
Buffalo Springfield....For What Its Worth.
A song from the 60s that describes today.
Lead guitarist was sitting at home doing finger exercises and his wife walked by...hearing him and said " that should be a song" HISTORY
Timeless classic. Love it so much.
I keep telling you Huey Lewis and the News. Band, horns, rock, jazz. You'd like Working for a Livin live
Hi sweetheart! Happy to see your face!
One of my favorites!!!!
One of the top bands ever! The vocals are crazy good. Keep doing great work! #Supernaturalfanforlife
❤️❤️
Came out in 1977. I was a senior in high school. Actually could have been 78 after graduation lol. Anyway it was my fave song for a long time. Born and raised in FL but ended up living in Kansas later for 12 years. I love Kansas...band and state lol.💖😁
This song came out in 1977. I was 15 years old, but have always loved it. I knew of this band pretty early in their career because I live in Kansas and they had played locally 3 or 4 times. I believe a couple of the band members came from the town I live in. You are my favorite reactor and yeah I have been wondering where you were.
Your reaction was heartfelt- and beautiful, this was popular when I was in Hi- Sch., and it touched me as well- one of my favorites to this day☺
I was a kid when came out and I got the meaning and the song is beautiful in melody and lyrics and they way they sing
Supertramp’s ‘Take the Long Way Home’ is from that same timeframe and well worth a listen
I love your reactions. It makes so many of us feel great to know that a young person appreciates the music we grew up with and loved so much. So much real talent back then.
James you have to do Point of Know Return. It’s the title track of the album. Great reaction
His transitions are 🔥 fire! 🔥
Being raised in Wichita, this is a must know song! I remember singing it was a duet with my bestie in elementary school in the 70s!
It is Biblical. We all are just dust in the wind. Enjoy everyday. The old adage you can't take It with you. Look up the lyrics and read each stanza. The song is beautiful. 🎶 🌙 🌟 love your reaction.
Saw them at the Spectrum in Philly in 1975. Manfred Mann and Edgar Winter. They were unique at the time. You didn’t see violin at too many concerts
From dust we came, and dust we shall return.
All are born into life owing a death.
This song came out whenever I was in the 11th in 1978. I adored this song. But shortly after this album was released.
I really like this song too. Its so sad, but i dont mind that, because its the reason i find it so beautiful. I always tend to love this sad songs, that touch me inside. Thank you for your beautiful reaction. And congrats to getting more subscribers.

Watching you react to the songs I grew up listening to reminds me again what fantastic music we were able to experience. I was in high school when this song came out. Thank you for appreciating all these great musicians.
This is one of my all time favorite songs.
Lol.
actually says .."for dust thou art..and unto dust shalt thou return.....
Timeless and beautiful
Real art. You damn right. You know good music. Period.
Most of this music you react to, came out in my younger days! I enjoy watching your reactions soooo much!!! Thank you for bringing joy!
