Great Stereo drums with 3 cheap microphones

Great drums in stereo with $300 in mics! If you’re on a budget, just starting out, or just want a really easy, low maintenance recording setup, try the Glyn Johns method with 3 @shure SM57s. One mic 33 inches above the center of the snare, another above the floor tom pointing at the snare (also 33 inches from snare center), and a mic in front of the kick. This recording has no processing at all-no EQ, compression, or post recording phase alignment. It’s definitely not a finished drum sound but it’s certainly useable and captures a pretty accurate image of the kit. Give it a try!
