    From what I've seen, using the piano black over existing duller coating will result in more of a satin finish. For the highest shine, start from scratch

    You should try Superwrap gloss black if u really want that high gloss finish

    I guess for best results you shouldn't apply in direct sunlight. It effects the "gloss" when curing because its drying too fast. Still looks really good tho.

      I was in the shade but I guess that's not enough. I'll probably spray inside the garage next time. thanks for the tip.

    What did you do to get the red so clean on the emblems? They look great!

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49  3 года назад +1

      The emblem comes off the center cap. It just clips on to the center cap. I gently tapped the clips with a plastic mallet and they pop off. And then I painted it with red Plasti Dip and added glossifier.

      @@juliodavid49 Ah that makes sense! I just picked up a 2018 Tacoma OR and I'm considering doing this instead of buying new wheels off the bat. That way I can splurge on tires first. Thanks for the info!
      I can't remember if you mentioned in the vid but what size tires are you going with?

    Every video I've seen they use 8-12 coats. First 2 are light rest are wet coats.

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49  3 года назад

      Yes but I already had 10 coats of the shadow black so I did not feel the need to add 10 more coats. I did apply at a short distance to try and get a wet coat, but with this paint you have to spray fast otherwise you get runs. I would rather have the result that I have than have runs. I think that everybody who spray paints will get a slightly different result as a result of the way they spray. Anyway I'm happy with the results. Thanks for your comment.

    How many cans for 4 wheels

      I just used 2 cans of piano black because the wheels were already painted with 4 cans of shadow black.

    Update on long term results? Is it still holding?

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49  Год назад

      Still holding. The stuff does not come off unless you peel it off. And it retains its color.

    So the piano black is darker than shadow black??

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49  2 года назад

      Not too much blacker. It is smoother and slightly shinier than the Shadow black. It looks a little bit blacker but not a huge difference. But I like it much better because it does not have that rough texture like the regular plastidip.

    you should of taken off the satin black snd started fresh over. It would have turned out a lot better. This is coming from somewhere who has piano black wheels

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49  3 года назад

      What????? No that's not true. You can paint over the Shadow black and get a bit more shine with the Piano black.

      @@juliodavid49 It's true. I've seen piano black sprayed on a virgin surface and it came out very glossy compared to the satin finish you got. I think it reacts to the previous coating hence the duller finish.

    Hyperdip is better than plastidip, but not worth the price difference. After it dries, it is a smooth texture, plastidip is not. At best it is a satin finish, and it is very hard to clean. It almost like when you wash your car at the car wash and you cant get the "film" look off after some carwashes. That's what it looks like, perpetually half dirty, which makes me want to tear it off and just do a gloss finish paint job.
