I’m more interested in maps than I ever thought I would be thanks to these videos - it’s changed so much over the last 30 years, it’s unrecognisable Keep up the great vids!
Thanks very much. I’m not keen on the modern map style, I actually preferred the spacing on the 2009-2013 map, only because it was clearer. But the style was not good then.
Can't believe how much Thorpe park maps has changed from 80s - now. I would like to see them bring back Thorpe Park Rangers like what they did for saw last year. Fright Nights I think 2013 changed the future.
@@PowersTowersProductions That is a very good point. I think they should do a one weekend or week off of the TP Rangers Returning but who knows. Did you go to Thorpe Farm when it was open.
I remember fondly going to Thorpe Park back in the 80's. I live a few miles away so it was a frequent day out, and later in the early 90's I worked there for a few seasons. It is entirely unrecognisable now from what it was. You used to enter the dome and just behind it to the left was the Cinema180 dome which was a major draw back then :) Behind that was the always breaking down Bronco Bikes which had the mechanism altered so that the bike would bob up and down as you peddled around a little track. I kind of always found it annoying xd. All the water sports around the edges weren't really a part of your day out and usually cost extra so I never considered that as part of the theme park. There was a huge paddle boat to the left too which quite often wasn't even open. The heart of the park was the wonderful dark ride Phantom Fantasia which I think is still missed by the park today. I loved the rooms and vignettes based on horror themes and the gentle pace of it. Near to it was the huge Model World where you walked through and admired all the world landmarks spread out over a garden and walkways. To the right of the pavilion was some Paddle Boats, and further on was the ancient history area, Celtic houses, Roman forts, Medieval huts etc, spread out over a large area and where you relaxed and spent an hour or two immersed in that area. I'd been to the park five or six times over several years before I discovered this sort of hidden area and it always felt like such a special place as a result of that late discovery. It was kind of entertainment-less in a way and just felt like a space to chill. There were lovely large boats which took you to the farm which was across the lake but they were scheduled so rarely that more often than not you would walk the north route and take in the wonderful Pirate Island ride. The farm itself was quite sparse with a few farm animals in fenced fields and a few farm buildings without much to do there, but they did serve a wonderful full dairy ice cream in a waffle cone, which was the real reason you went there :) I remember back then new big rides would only happen every few years rather than yearly, and the introduction of the Log Flume at the top left and the Thunder River ride too gave it the sense of being a full on theme park. However it was around this time when all the quirky areas like the farm and Viking, Roman, Celtic etc areas started to be downsized or abandoned which is where the park started to lose it's original charm and began it's transformation to it's modern teenage oriented roller coaster thrill rides etc park that it is today. The whole park was much more gentle than it is now, with few rides but lots of weird and wonderful visual things to take in and it sort of induced a more gentle experience and day out.
operaspark thanks so much! I wouldn’t like to say I know the most, as there are probably many people who know more than me, but I’m always looking to learn as much as possible.
When you started in 1986-you missed some other rides/attractions that opened that year. and missed out 1987 and only mentioned the theatre in 1988. etc
@@PowersTowersProductions Oh that wasn't explained, but would of been really good if you would of mentioned all the changes in them years! From rides to themed areas. etc
@@PowersTowersProductions No probs, was just really confusing. lol When do you think you would start doing that then?? And will it be just for UK Theme Parks or for Theme Parks across the globe??

@@PowersTowersProductions I like these types of videos where we can all remise about what Thorpe & Alton was like before the current decade. Nice to see it had a good effect on you, I found the maps fascinating from when I first found them.
That 1997 map is so nostalgic. That's my childhood Thorpe Park in all its 90s glory ☺️
Long time gone and lots of changes.
If Thorpe Park didn't create the maps for 2010-2013, then the whole video would have some nice maps. All in all, great video!

I much prefered those maps. The 2014 onward maps look bland imo

I’d love to see the Rangers back, but I think that’s a part of the park they want dead and buried.

The transformation of Thorpe park has been incredible to read and look at through pictures and written memories.
Man I miss some of these old rides
Slammer and Canada Creek Railway for me!

Powers Towers Productions You’re welcome. Keep up what you’re passionate about and stay safe.
I kind of want a log flume on the island next to Swarm like Chiapas, but smaller.
Theme could be Surfing and/or Reefs?
Educational perk?
I think log flumes are a dying bread now.
@@PowersTowersProductionsnot really only in the Uk cause it’s too cold and wet most the time
The only map I haven’t been able to add to my collection is the 2016 normal map, no chance you have one or know how I can get one somehow?

I agree the later maps are the best, even if they are not as good as they could be!
The latest maps are the best-I disagree
Yeah, No One Likes The Exact Same Things
Me who went there at 8 years old and wasn’t tall enough for any of the best rides… (I used the test seats outside of the queues instead LOL)
You missed out the 2000 map in which Tidal wave was opened
I’m afraid I couldn’t find a copy of the 2000 map online anywhere. 😭

I love that old colossus music... I really wish they'd still use it over the imascore remix 😔
They have started using some of the original colossus music in the queue at points.

Omg absolutely gutted they closed loggers leap
Feels so long ago now.
My cousin went in 2000 and has the old map but I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the internet 🤷♂️
What I’ve got I could find on the internet.
It’s so wired
2010-2014 maps look like cartoonist drawn faces like on the 2012 map for the swarm
Honestly couldn't get on with the cartoony nature of the people, but I loved the design.
cool vid
Thanks for the kind words!
What about the maps from 1979
I was unable to find them. I searched everyone I could, but absolutely no sign of them. Sorry. 😩
You forgot the 2019 fright nights map 😂
I was unable to get hold of it.
I've got a copy of it but it's been water damaged from rain
Oh dear. I couldn’t scan my copy in either as my scanner is too small.
