- Where do paints come from? They come in pans and tubes from your local art supplies store, right? Wrong! The magic begins way before that!
Royal Talens Experience Center in Apeldoorn, NL, offers an amazing opportunity to see how paints are made.
I think it is important for artists to know what goes into the production of the paints they use. This makes your paint with a new kind of appreciation and joy.

Bucket list! I’m going to see if we have anything like this in the UK but I doubt it - will have to save up and make a combined trip to Belgium to see old friends and Apeldoorn for a day here.
Great idea, Lisbeth! Don’t forget to make a reservation before you go😉 I've heard that Winsor & Newton also do something like that in the UK, but I’m not sure if it’s only by invitation or just for everyone who wants to come. I'd love to visit the W&N factory someday as well.
5:23 Is Talens Gouache made in the Netherlands or in China?
I didn’t hear anything about a Chinese factory, but I can imagine that a part of the production has been made somewhere else. The factory here is quite small for everything they produce.
@@julia_henze In the meantime I asked my local shop here in Budapest, what is written on the box, and they said: Made in the Netherlands.
I have a box of oil pastels Talens Van Gogh, and it is made in China, and honestly that paint is totally disappointing. I have no problem with China, I admire China and Chinese people and culture, but my experience with Made in China paints is really disappointing.
Oh! That’s a pity! Van Gogh is a student grade series. Maybe that’s the reason? They consist of less pigment and more other ingredients.
