    Thanks for this video. I'm getting my gear together and should be ready to start deep dropping up here in the Oceanside/Carlsbad area.

    This was crazy, just a few days after posting this you caught your swordfish.

      Yes sir, I caught it shortly after this dropped on the exact same bait in the other video too. Thanks for watching!

      @@realworldanglingis a penn international 130vis too much for swords?

    • @realworldangling
      @realworldangling  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@gunnycat8393 I don’t think anything is truly too much for swords, however in So Cal I think a 50/50w is really the perfect size, and a 70/80 would be on the big size. There is no need for a 130 and you are also limited to the gunnel or fishing from a chair.

      @@realworldangling I also have 9/0, 12/0, and 14/0 senators but they're single speed. That would be a lot cranking lol

      @@gunnycat8393 I would use the 130 if that’s what you, but you could sell that and buy a 50w or a 70…I would avoid using the senators

    Another tip: tie a double bimini twist connecting your wind-on instead of just a single bimini twist. It is rare, but the braid can cut through the dacron, and a double bimini twist relieves some pressure on the connection.

    • @realworldangling
      @realworldangling  Год назад

      This is definitely a good idea. I typically do a two or three turn cats paw for the connection so I don’t have to worry about it cutting through. Thanks for the tip!

    How did you decide on 800ft depth for your bouy rod?
    Are your marking any DSL on your sounder before you drop?

    • @realworldangling
      @realworldangling  Год назад

      I focus on about 900-950 for the tip rod so I wanted the buoy just above that. I’m working on something new to try where I can easily adjust the the depth of the buoy…still working on it but will post soon

    • @adammcgeorge3538

      @@realworldangling how did you decide on that depth? Are others catching them that deep on commercial bouy gear?

    • @realworldangling
      @realworldangling  Год назад

      @@adammcgeorge3538 I have read every study available on the buoy gear and all the information published by PIER. Also I try and talk with anyone I can and put together info that way. I started making contacts on the East coast and now the West coast. I seem to find the heaviest DSL around that mark as well.

      @@realworldangling I’m fishing around Nauru in the central pacific, and can read bottom into 600-700meters, but have not marked any kind of deep scatter layer before, I only have a 1kw furuno transducer. What is the bottom depth when you are fishing 800ft?

    • @realworldangling
      @realworldangling  Год назад

      @@adammcgeorge3538 i am running an Airmar b175m which is also 1kw. I'm focusing on anything from 1200-2000ft. You need to play with your settings and see if you can mark a dsl, im not sure if the fish there stay closer to the bottom like the guys on the east coast

    Wait y do you need a swivel at the end of the line if you have a wind on leader?

    • @realworldangling
      @realworldangling  10 месяцев назад +1

      I’m not sure what you’re asking? The swivel is what is used to crimp to the bait leader.
