What a great setup! I’m impressed that you don’t know them on an hydroponic system as most commercial growers do! I love that you use soil and with worms and everything. Outstanding!
Your book Market Gardener is my reference book each season. Even with a university degree in Agriculture I still find tips and tricks in your book. Great job!
First thanks for sharing the tip on using white plastic as mulch I will be trying it out later this year. I from Aruba are tomato season is from October to June. Looking forward to test it out.
Great idea on the plastic sheeting to reflect the light upwards. In our backyard garden we use a red plastic sheeting which is supposed to reflect the optimum light spectrum for maximum production. We grow determinent tomatoes since it's for our own use only but still manage about 15 lbs per plant in our case.
thats one of rhe best videos i ve seen lately. i didnt think cover soil is good soil ;) white at the bottom to reflect...smart ;) tomatoe r my fav to grow and they arent easy. so susceptible to diseases ;(
what about woodchips in the greenhouse. Connor Crickmore from Neversink farm only uses wood chips over the plastic when growing tomatoes what is your thought ?
You said “lower lean them and start a new”. What do you mean by start a new? Are you saying you pick another stem on that same plant and focus on that stem growing vertically until it touches the top again and then you repeat the process?
I have a question. Maybe someone here can help me with this. I am located in Georgia and next year I will be trying to grow around 450 tomato plants in two high tunnels. I want to graft all the tomatoes and I also want to hard prune them so that each one has two main stems. Just not sure which I should do first. Should I hard prune first to get the two leaders and then graft that to the root stock or should I graft the tomatoes first and once they are healed then do the hard prune to produce the two leaders. Can't seem to fine much info on this. Please help.
Hydroponics will never replace soil grown crops at least not in the taste department. Soil is indispensable. Although I am not too sure how growers deal with the need for crop rotation.

Doesn't the plastic ground cover have a huge benefit that was not discussed- as far as minimizing disease? The leaves look extraordinarily green and spotless.
guys, been born in a farming environment and this stuff comes natural, however when you have lost it all, it seems impossible to find any investors willing to help you get back on your feet again. land, greenhouses, soil preparation, irrigation etc is real expensive. think i scoured the planet for angel investors, VC firms etc and the answer keeps being no. So I dont know what to do anymore. I live in South Africa.
Curious why you went with the tomahook setup, and not the Qlipr system? From an efficiency perspective, I would've thought the opposite, and I'm wondering why you went that route?
Would you be able to motivate and recommend me a market study/ business plan template for a greenhouse business for Tbilisi market. We have a land but running very low on money, and need to start a small profitable business that can scale eventually. I can share with you my email ID, if you can make this effort.

awesome Jessica! very glad to hear that 😁
Great video! Thanks for the tips and tricks, people really underestimate the knowledge on RUclips and from other farmers.

15lbs per plant in a year?
That's amazing how tall those plants can get! Great job guys.
It is isn't?! Kinda makes ya wonder if there is a world record yet for longest tomato plant! Thanks for the comment Leland
I am also amazed by the earthworms, just unbeleivable. How hard was it to carry them in the tunnel?
Love these videos! Thanks for everything JM!
How do you do the grafting what plants do you use for the roots
How are u supporting the greenhouse frame? From all the weight on the tomatoes, worries me about the greenhouse structure.

what about woodchips in the greenhouse. Connor Crickmore from Neversink farm only uses wood chips over the plastic when growing tomatoes what is your thought ?
I have trouble here in Scotland at 700ft elevation to ripen cordon tomatoes. I have to resort to bush variety..
When are you starting them?
Im going to have to look into this class! Ths is beautiful. But dont tomatoes need a bee?
The best method is to introduce bumble bee hives, but in the absence of that you can shake the wire daily to distribute the pollen.
Are these silage tarps? Having a hard time finding a plastic that replicates this that isn’t just 4’ wide.
Thank you for wonderful video that you present to use Can you help me with books taught how to grow tomatoes in greenhouse.
:56 seconds in,
Those wires supporting the vines, what are those called/where can we find them?
Great info! Where is your farm on the map and how many daytime hours of light do you get during the tomato growing season?
Hi! is it a good idea to paint white the greenhouse plastic on top¿? thanks

Wow man

Would you recommend a new farmer just start out with tomatoes so as to get the cashflow rolling and then diversify later?
What a to-do. What's the return to loss ratio if you just let the plants do what they want ?
probably close to zero returns due to disease and pests.
what is the song at the end???
How Can we find a field to rent for greenhouse or can we find a greenhouse for rent for crop?
Hydroponics will never replace soil grown crops at least not in the taste department. Soil is indispensable. Although I am not too sure how growers deal with the need for crop rotation.
How many kg per plant can you produced?
how do you manage your soil diseases with soil?.
Hi there, does anyone happen know JM's spacing between rows? Bought his book & it doesn't say. Looks like maybe 3 feet?
probably 3 feet - that is a common spacing. usual in row is 1 head per ft of row for beefsteak and 2 heads per ft row for cherry/grape/paste
how many beef stake tomatoes per truss?
I don't think I have heard you speak about rotation of your tomato crop? Do you grow tomatoes over and over again in the same greenhouse?
Please help me with the variety of that tomato

How much are you looking for? I am very interested in South African agriculture
Rent. Good luck finding that, it was nigh impossible for me.
Field grow.
Start again.
I live in SW Ontario, Canada. Very expensive, here too.
I can understand why SA is not attractive to international investors. Political instability, corruption and supporting Russia.
I would think market and labor would be bigger limiting factors on most farms than light.
he's clearly talking about the growing part of them, obviously.

🎉
What I haven’t figured out is why the tomatoes in the greenhouse never get blight; either Early or Late.
the foliage stays dry - wet foliage sets the plants up for blight

Actually garlic is far more profitable.
